We also should be looking at what the Twins traded away. They gave up 2 months of Escobar and a year + 2 months of Pressley (that's right, isn't it?). Getting four prospects in return with all four in their Top 20...plus another kid that's ripping the cover off the ball his first two games. I view that as a good return. Will any of them pan out? We'll know in four or five years. That's the unfortunately part, this is a long term investment.

Good point, Seth. But after checking, he only pitched 3.2 innings before June 11 this year. So I expect that he would have had nearly the same number of innings in EST this year. Not trying to debate the specifics, rather wondering if he is hitting that time when some pitchers get a tired arm?

After a brief slump (2 games in 1 day with only 1 hit in each), good seeing Kirilloff back in the saddle. Also good seeing Arraez batting average climbing ever so slightly (now almost .250) after making that tough jump to AA. Has only been 22 games. Is he getting comfortable so yesterday's multi hit game becomes his norm? Has only been 5 games, but Jeffers has found hitting in Cedar Rapids much more difficult than at Elizabethton. Let's hope he breaks out real soon. Sticking with the Kernels, see that Balazovic has already pitched about 13% more innings than either of his first two professional seasons. After some real nice starts, wonder if he is facing that 'tired arm' condition the last two times out?

So much information, tarheeltwinsfan, thanks. And it makes me feel much better about the organization after hearing some of the things you talked about. I don't know how long they have been doing most of these things, but there is no question they are taking good care of these young men.

As I was reading this, was thinking about Trevor May. And wondering what the Twins plan is for him. With 2 innings last night and the 'starting' role recently, are they getting him ready to be a starter? When will they bring him back to Target Field? Gotta face major league hitters before next spring? Enjoyed the video of De La Trinidad. Didn't realize how small he is. Great start for Graterol. But also another real nice appearance by Moran. Took a look and was astonished by his last 10 games (21.2 innings). Only 2 earned runs with 29 strikeouts and only 1 walk...yes, 1 walk and 9 hits is a WHIP below 0.50. Also, no need to worry about Enlow and the strikeouts. The kid is barely 19 and pitching in A ball.

Lets stay positive, sftwinsfan. The starting second baseman next year is going to be Eduardo Escobar. Will believe, or maybe hope for, that until the ink is dry on his signature on a contract for someone else.

Article: Ready Or Not Here Comes Sano
rdehring replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In a perfect world, Sano would have stayed in Rochester for several weeks/months. Or until he really started mashing the ball. But, we don't live in a perfect world. I hope that Sano can make noticeable progress the remainder of this season, then work hard over the winter so that he has an excellent spring training and really brings it come opening day. I really want him to be playing at the top of his game next summer so the Twins can trade him for a boatload of value. He just has too many question marks to be part of my team...long-term. The bigger question is who plays third when Sano needs a day off or DH's? I imagine it is Adrianza. But what if Dozier is also traded? Could we actually see Rosario playing some third base? Made one of the better plays I have seen in a long time last night. -
Losing Escobar is a real hit in the gut for me. One of my favorite Twins. A young man who was a real asset to the organization, on the field, in the clubhouse and in the community. The FO will make my day, hell make my winter, if they can figure out a way to get him back next winter...although I suspect that is a long shot! But is it realistic to expect the Twins to make the playoffs this year...no. So this move, and others to come, are the correct decisions for management. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about it.

Isn't it great seeing Buxton back on a baseball field. Hopefully, he can get back up here in ten days or a couple weeks. Gotta get he and Sano ready for 2019. Is going to be interesting, Seth, to see where all these new guys fit into the organization. And with three new outfielders, who will lose playing time? Considering the way he has been playing the last month or two, doubt it will be Baddoo. And I'll second everything FormerMinnasotan said about Thorpe. Is it possible he stays in Chattanooga for another month, then gets a call up to the Twins for September? After all he is on the 40-man. Work a few games out of the bullpen and maybe make a start or two? Would be great exposure for when he comes up to stay next April or spring. And thanks for adding Miranda to the prospect summary. Will be back in the morning to read about today's games. Should be an exciting day with Graterol and Enlow both on the mound.

Article: Spring Trade Brings Bray Back Home
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article, Seth. Recall EP, high school and legion, being my son's big rival back when he was playing ball. Excelsior did well against them, although that was 10 years before Bray was on that great team. Remember hearing lots about them in those back-to-back Legion Series. Do you recall what the Twins gave up to get him? Was it one of those $X trades? -
I think Garver is meeting our hopes. He was projected to be a decent hitter, for a catcher, who needed work defensively. Isn't that exactly what he has been? His bat began the season so-so, but as he has gotten more at bats he is doing a good job at the plate. And as for Kepler, we always have known that he would take a bit longer to develop because of his baseball background in Germany. Will he become the 5-tool star most of us hope for? That remains to be seen, but I wouldn't call him a disappointment. At least not yet.

Recall stories about he and Sano working out in the morning, then going fishing in the afternoon. Both missed a big chunk of that year. And thanks for a great article, Nick. Enjoyed reading a positive take on where the Twins can be a couple years down the road.

Nice night for Kirilloff and Grz. Also, real nice outing for Landon Leach. Didn't go back to look at each game last year, but this was probably the longest start of his career. And with no earned runs, probably his best. As for the Kirilloff discussion, my prediction is he stays at Fort Myers before going to the AFL with Rooker.

Article: MIN 2, BOS 1: Gibby the Great
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was this the best start for Gibson in his career? I believe, although not certain, he has a shutout or two along the way. But against this lineup, 8 inning with 1 run just may be his best night...ever. As for trading him, why? If the Twins are going to compete next year or the year or two after, they need top of the line pitching. Why would you ever trade one of the best. And yes, this year Gibson is one of the best (top 10 or 15 in baseball).- 148 replies

Was thinking the same thing. Was wondering if they are trying to get some pitchers used to entering the game rather than start. Is it the first step in shifting some starters to the bullpen? Or at least getting some experience entering games after the start?

Checked scores last night when the Miracle were in the 5th inning. Saw that Wells had a no-no going with lots of strikeouts. Also see that Miranda was 3-3. That puts his average up close to .280. Once he settled in after an ugly start, he's certainly got the job done. Another kid that is starting to catch my eye is Helman. Was a pleasant surprise when I saw they signed him. Wasn't the last second baseman the Twins had out of Texas A&M a good one?

Was '16 the year we paid the big bucks to Marte, jeffn48? I am beginning to see that signing a bunch of guys around $200k-$400k may be better than going all in on one guy for $3mm-$4mm. Especially now that there are limits on spending. Romero and Graterol seem to confirm this.

Article: Minnesota Twins Trade Deadline Predictions
rdehring replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why would he want to, certainty. Knowing he is earning $x for the next several years in a place he apparently likes gives him peace of mind and security. Will an extension be less or more costly, no one will ever know. You are right, we can't force him to sign, but he just might...if asked. On the flip side, once he is gone no one knows what will happen. I value him too much to not, 1) not trade him; and 2) want to take a shot at locking him up in early August. On the other hand, if someone gives the Twins a too good to say no offer, you have to take it. -
Rooker-Kirilloff-Larnach. Although Larnach has played in only a couple games, appears all three flat out mash. Is it realistic to expect all three to be playing at Target Field by the end of 2020? But are there enough positions for all three on the same team? Don't know what the Twins will do with Rooker later this year. At or near the lead in the Southern League in home runs, doubles and RBI in his first full season. He doesn't need to be added to the 40-man this year, but could he be forcing the Twins to do so? And another nice outing from Tyler Benninghoff. That's three straight appearances (8 ip) with only 3 hits and nooooo runs! Great seeing this kid get back into action.

Article: Minnesota Twins Trade Deadline Predictions
rdehring replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Please don't trade Escobar. Sign him to a nice extension, if not in August then at the end of the season. He is too valuable, both on the field and off! -
Or is the plan to keep him at Fort Myers, then send him out to the AFL? Would give him a chance to see better pitching, without some of the pressure.

Not only does Rooker continue to rake, his walks are way up in his last ten games (9). Is it possible the Twins could move Kirilloff up another level in early August? Unlikely, but if he keeps hitting well over .300 average for another couple weeks, why not?

This daily post is the most exciting place to go, at least for Twins fans. Great seeing Thorpe have another very good game. Noticed that he has given up 2 or less runs in each of his last ten games, except that clunker back on June 8. Also good getting another sniff of the real Luis Arraez. Come on Luis, the Twins need an on base guy like you. Not concerned with Balazovic. He is very young and games like yesterday will happen. Could Miranda's season been better? I think not. If he keeps hitting like he has he will finish the year around .300. Can't wait for this next group of prospects to arrive!

Article: Week in Review: Kansas City, Misery
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Couldn't agree more with everything said, Nick. And any get-a-way with the woman you are going to spend the rest of your life with has to be a good weekend. Expect we won't see the front office doing anything until after Wednesday when they see how Santana looks on the big stage. Also expect that Dozier will be moved to Boston when there over the weekend.- 21 replies

Gonna go out on a limb. The Twins are in Boston next weekend, right before the trading deadline. Boston has an excellent second baseman who seems to be out for the year. Makes a lot of sense that Dozier would trade locker rooms at Fenway sometime during that series. You know, kind of like Mientkiewiscz did at the Metro Dome all those years ago! And didn't the Sox go on to win the World Series that year? Or was it a year later? Only question is what will the Twins get in return. Expect it will be less than many of us hope for, but probably more than many of us fear!
