  1. Its great seeing Moran getting a promotion and immediately stepping in and putting up zeroes. Maybe he will be one reliever who actually pans out and gets it done for the Twins a couple years from now. Am ready to jump on the Yunior Severino bandwagon when it comes around. This kid looks like a great signing. Thanks to the Atlanta Braves!
  2. Like this group. It really hurts when Javier sits out the entire year, especially after missing almost all of his first year back in the DSL. Twins gotta get him out on the diamond next year. Expect there will be lots of comparisons between Larnach and Rooker over the coming years. Really like what Rooker has done at AA so far this year. Will Larnach match his production? Exceed it? Or not? Like many, I question whether Littell is going to make it. But that is somewhat based on his two rocky outings for the Twins. As mentioned above, the circumstances weren't ideal. Maybe he will get a chance in September to settle in and get some innings so everyone can see what he's got.
  3. I believe one of the last three games he only pitched an inning or two before being removed after a rain delay. One real short start out of three games really affects the numbers. I will agree that he often pitches a bit less than one would like. I think part of that is the high number of strikeouts combined with them keeping his pitch count at 90 or less. Expect they are still being careful after missing two full seasons a couple years ago.
  4. But several of these teams, Cedar Rapids for example, are very young. Expect that is one of the reasons for the records. And most are right around .500.
  5. I usually don't object to your rankings. But having Thorpe at #14, which is a drop of 2 spots since last winter is a mistake, a BIG mistake. Read the third paragraph of your description and tell me how he could move down 2 spots. And baseball just selected him for the futures game and you dropped him 2 slots. Yes, he had one absolute clunker a while ago. But this kid belongs in the Top 10, not next winter, now!
  6. Yes, there is a chance. Say we sweep KC and take 3 of 4 from Tampa going into the break. That puts us 4 games under .500 and probably within 7+/- of Cleveland. Unfortunately, there are two problems with that. One, the break may break our momentum and we come back cold. The second is that it gives the team hope when I really doubt we will make the playoffs and would be better off long-term by selling a few parts later this month. What will they do?
  7. Great seeing Zander Wiel back on the field. Seems like he picked up right where he left off before the injury. Another great story this season from someone few of us expected. We continue to see Grz' name in these reports. With Rortvedt moving up, he hasn't been behind the plate a lot. But certainly seems like someone who has a chance to make it. Gotta love these guys that come out of nowhere.
  8. I really like this group. And will repeat Thrylos' comment that this system just might be loaded. If Arraez begins to hit at AA like he did in June at Fort Myers, look out. Am more in line with Seth as far as where Diaz should be ranked. But Pearson, Jeffers and Severino really strengthen this organization. And all were brought on board in the last six months, or so.
  9. As Vargas' bat heats up, I have to believe he would be more productive than Morrison. And after three games to get settled into AA, Arraez gets a 3 hit game. Really is one of the better stories from the organization this year. Yesterday was Thorpe-Jax-Balazovic. Today its Romero-Graterol. Graterol's start wasn't perfect, but the kid is only 19 and pitching at Hi-A. Is it realistic to expect/hope that at least two, or three, of these kids can develop into top line starters for the Twins? Speaking of 19 year olds, there are four young men at Cedar Rapids who are either 19 or just turned 20...Baddoo, Pearson, Lewis and Miranda. Its going to be fun watching this group move up the ladder, hopefully, all the way to the Twins in 2-3 years.
  10. Was really looking forward to last night when I saw that Thorpe-Jax-Balazovic were all starting. They sure came through with 20 strikeouts (8-7-5) with only 2 walks (0-0-2). Thorpe had a short start (4.2 ip), but that happens to him fairly often as a result of a high number of strikeouts. Really like seeing Jax with a quality start and Balazovic just seems to be someone we really have to keep our eyes on. Like seeing Arraez get some hits while he settles in to AA. And if Rooker keeps this up he is going to force the Twins to do something. And who is this Williams guy? Isn't he the guy they signed way under slot for $10,000? Also curious why Keirsey, who is hitting .340, has been in the bottom third of the order?
  11. The results. Pitching in a very difficult situation while on leave from active duty, his results were very good. Sure got my attention.
  12. I know lots of us have been down on Garver much of this year. But he played very little last fall, so this is his rookie season. The improvements I am seeing tell me he can be a serviceable member of a good MLB team. Probably can hit relatively well with a bit of power. Hopefully, a year or two down the road he will also give us average defense. Perhaps he splits time with Castro next year, then plays two-thirds of the games in 2020 when Rortvedt is breaking into the league. Also like what I am seeing from Cave. Another good pick up by the front office this spring. This year has been more than disappointing, yet, it appears they are doing a lot to strengthen the organization. Long term moves like improving scouting, minor league coaching, off the field issues like diet and training, and most of all organizational depth. What's the saying, "Rome wasn't built in a day." Maybe it is the same with a major league organization.
  13. Great seeing Enlow have a very good start. With his plus curveball, a bit surprised he had only 3 strikeouts. But seeing him do well at Cedar Rapids is very encouraging. Also good to see Wade performing, well like Wade, at AAA. Gotta believe he will be with the Twins sometime this year, perhaps in September. With Arraez taking the big step to AA, will be watching closely to see if he can settle in and hit like he has throughout his career. If he can, the Twins have their lead off hitter for much of the next decade. And this Pearson kid just keeps hitting. Getting to the point that it is no longer a small sample. Nice pickup by the front office last winter, real nice.
  14. Agree that most years there are several prospects many of us fear losing and they aren't selected. However, just last year we lost Chargois, Bard and Burdi. Bard came back, but Burdi was stashed on the 60-day DL. Chargois has been effective with the Dodgers and could have helped this bullpen...should they have used him. When I look at the players available this November, I question if they will have enough room to protect all that are real prospects. Thus, the concern for adding Rooker later this year...although I will agree the experience would be valuable.
  15. One of the more rational reviews of the situation I have seen, thanks. Like Brandon, I question whether Rooker will be added to the 40-man as that would eliminate Player X from being added come November. On the other hand, as you point out, if it is 50/50 that he will be on this team next April the experience would be invaluable. Finally, I question bringing up young relievers. Will they be used? Or will the other 5 or 6 just assume all the bullpen innings until their arms fall off? Thanks again, really enjoyed reading this article.
  16. Really expect Miranda to move up these rankings over the next year. Have him penciled into my Twins lineup at third base by sometime in late 2021. Leach just needs to pitch!
  17. I don't recall any years like this either, Seth. Signing over 30 players with only 39 picks may be both the most players signed and by far the highest percentage (32 of 39) of players signed. Really surprised that they signed their top 23. Are they meeting with Halverson this morning? If I understand the rules, they could pay him about $400,000 (plus pick up his cost of college) with only a cash penalty. Now time to sit back and watch'em play down on the farm. Will see how they did in five years, or so!
  18. Great seeing Arraez moving up to Chattanooga. Does this put him into position to make it to the Twins sometime during the 2019 season? Hopefully this will open a slot for Lewis to move up. Another good game from Rooker and is great seeing Weil back in the Lookouts lineup. Good appearance from Tyler Jay. Don't know what to expect from him as he has had too many disappointing outings. Also great seeing Benninghoff back on the mound. Not concerned about the results this year.
  19. Expect we will see Jax much higher next winter. Can see him as a #3 starter about the time he will need time off for the next Olympics.
  20. Was also going to comment on Sano's 0-3 (3 K's). But what really caught my eye was Rooker's 2-4 with 2 doubles and RBI's. The young man has an OPS of over 1.000+ since the 1st of June. Seth and I exchanged comments yesterday about whether or not he was likely to be called up in September. We both were of the opinion that he wouldn't as he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man roster this November and open spots are always needed. I expect there is also the subject of service time that would come into play. On the other hand, if he continues to mash what is the best way to have him ready to compete for a 25-man spot out of spring training? Would a September call up be worthwhile? Or does a promotion to AAA serve the same purpose? None of us know what is the best decision other than it is a good problem to have should he keep hitting like he has. Do you know, Steve, why Arraez was pulled from the game after his first at bat?
  21. So he has similar size. And from everything I read is also fast, possibly faster than Benson. I remember Benson had a full ride to Purdue as a running back. Was out of Joliet Catholic, correct? Rudy's old high school. He may have made the wrong decision, or not?
  22. Have been wondering about Vargas, Seth. Would he be hitting better if he hadn't been waived all over the place last spring and no longer on the 40-man? One can argue that he needed to dig deep and work to get back in the hunt. But after several years of going back and forth, even when hitting well with the Twins, he may have just given up! Don't know?
  23. Just shook my head, Thrylos, when you mentioned Joe Benson. What a talented athlete. He came so close! Is Keirsey as big as Benson?
  24. That's what I was thinking also, Seth. With a group led by Graterol, Wade and Arraez, they will need every spot they can find come November.
  25. Hindsight is always 20-20, but have been wondering for awhile whether the Twins would be better off with Vargas on the bench/DH rather than Morrison. Seems that Sano is starting to heat up. Do you have any reports on the progress, if any, of his conditioning program? Was also good seeing that Whitefield had a nice game. Really like his upside.
