Wiel and Rooker just continue smashing the ball. And Kirilloff seems to be hitting even better. Plus every good game/week/month for Rortvedt adds to the likelihood he can someday be the answer for the Twins behind the plate. Looked at Enlow's splits. Take a look at his numbers before and after the break, unbelievable! He and Balazovic could both be special someday. The Twins drafted a catcher out of Clemson in the 8th round of this year's draft, Chris Williams. They then signed him for $10,000, giving them extra slot dollars to help sign all three of the high school kids and the second baseman from Texas A&M. I see Williams is usually at first base. Has he been a catcher in any games for ETon? But the kid sure can swing the bat, although we know a lot of players have put up BIG numbers at ETon and never heard from again. Am trying to remember the name of the first baseman from Saint Maarten several years ago, was it Rene Leveret? Or do I have that wrong?

Article: KC 4, MIN 2: For Sale

What an ugly game to watch. I said something yesterday which led to much disagreement. Well, they lost the first two out of the break and it is time to plan to sell...in my opinion. Fortunately, I expect the FO knows this team better than we do and was planning to sell all along. Two of their better players to trade were Dozier and Lynn. Unfortunately, both are cold as a meat freezer out of the break. Doubt we will see six players moved, but hopefully they can figure out a way to make a couple nice pickups. I will continue to hope, however, that Escobar stays with the Twins.- 34 replies

Remember when the Brewers brought up Robin Yount when he was 18. Went on to have a nice 20 year career with the Brew Crew. If I recall, he was a high 1st round pick, but not #1 overall. So it has happened before. Wouldn't it be nice if the Twins could get lucky with a pick like that and have history repeat itself...hey, both are shortstops!

Had a question while reading this, Seth. How long has it been for you doing this? Ober got me looking at the Cedar Rapids box score. He's having a decent season with a spectacular run these last three games. But something about Miranda caught my eye. Was a bit surprised about how little he is striking out...13% on the season and only twice in the last ten games (5%). As you said, Zander Wiel is having a break out season. He and Rooker are both looking like players who could (should?) have a future in the major leagues. One problem with that. They both are somewhat limited to first base/DH. Don't see the Twins having room for both of them. Wiel will have to be added to the 40-man this year or at risk in the Rule 5 draft. Not so for Rooker. Do you see Wiel being lost if the Twins don't add him, Seth? Finally, Seth, do you see any of the three studs in Fort Myers making it to the Twins by September, 2019?

The game was lost in the first inning when Escobar couldn't make that play down the left field line. Normally, that would be a ball the shortstop would catch. Unfortunately, our geniuses had the shortstop playing somewhere over on the right side of the infield. I know statistics tell us the shifts should work. Some time they come back and bite you in the....you know where. And with it goes the Twins season. To have any hope of getting back into this race, they need to win both series in KC and Toronto. Well, that means they have to sweep the next two games versus KC. Good luck!

I don't mind the 7-inning games, Tom. Mostly because the fans get 14-innings or 16-innings of baseball. And you know from the start that you are playing 7. If the point is to shorten games, I would much rather see them play an inning or two extra, then if still tied book it as a tie. So many things happen starting with a runner on second that effect the outcome. Don't know how the Twins farm clubs have faired with this rule, but it seems like we are losing most of them. Didn't like the rule when I first heard about it, don't like it now and won't like it next year if it is still around...which I hope not.

I hate the extra innings rule. Was this Stewart's best start of the year? After a good start with too many walks, he limited the walks to 2 last night. Jax is pitching well at Fort Myers and Moran is settling in nicely. Trevor May and Gabriel Moya are screaming for attention. Please, please, please call them up? Hopefully, a few spots will open in the pen during the next ten days. After a bad April, so-so May and little better June, Baddoo has broken out in July to a level confirming your lofty ranking as the 8th best prospect in the system. Also nice night from Rortvedt in their one-run win.

I agree that '16 and '17 could be special draft classes. That doesn't mean that '18 can't also be very good. To be good, they need about 3 players to contribute with one being a better than average starter. So if Larnach can be that good starter, they need a couple of the other 30 some picks to stick with the team for longer than a year or two.

Gonsalves hasn't allowed more than 1 run in any game since June 11. Yet, he continues to walk way to many batters. Expect that is the main reason he is still in Rochester. Great seeing Larnach on the field in Elizabethton. Always good to see a top prospect being productive in his first game. Arraez hasn't been hitting like we expect from him as he adjusts to AA pitching. Great seeing him with a 2 hit game last night while also scoring 2 runs. If he gets back to multiple hit games being the norm in a few more weeks, will his next stop be Target Field?

Every week or two, Charlie Barnes catches my eye. Fourth round pick out of Clemson says he has a strong background. What do you see as his ceiling, Steve? Is he another AAAA lefty? Or maybe another Tommy Milone? Or should he be better than Milone? Also took a deeper look at all four of the kids pitching for the GCL Twins, whom I knew nothing about. Interesting quartet. Breek has to make Blyleven happy and has been pitching well in the first few games of his professional career. I thought Regi Grace was going to be hard to sign. Glad they got it done. And German is doing well since moving up from the DSL last month. But the pitcher that stood out was Junior Navas. He signed as a 16-year old two years ago, then pitched in the DSL last year. He has now made 12 appearances as a professional (19.2 innings with 2 starts) and has yet to allow an earned run. That's not going to last......but could he be a good one?

Thanks for the update, Nick. You have included several players that I am not too high on. I doubt that Wade, Littell, Jorge, Stewart and Jay will be starters five years from now, or even on the team. I also am amongst the group that believes Lewis will be the shortstop. Don't know what to think about Javier. Unfortunately, until he gets healthy and plays none of us will. My fifth starter would be Anthony Escobar. Yes, that's a real long shot and a lot can happen as he moves up the system. But a 17 year old doing what he's doing in the DSL is interesting, very interesting. Does anyone know if he was a big dollar signing last year? Or another mid-to-low dollar guy like Romero and Graterol?

Thanks for the update, Tom. It is appreciated. Only name I was surprised to not see was Jose Miranda. With a .919 OPS in July, expect his numbers would be right up there with the best. Speaking about the Kernels, you have to be excited about Baddoo and Pearson. What really got my attention is the progress so many of these players are making. Is always a good sign to see players playing better as the long year wears on. Another exciting note to me was how well the Top 3 are doing after moving up a level within the last month. Yes, their numbers are down, but not bad as they adjust to the better competition they are facing. I said it elsewhere a few days ago, but I expect this Top 3 can stand up against the Top 3 in most organizations in baseball. And thanks for including a couple guys from the DSL. I expect we all are going to be talking about Escobar a lot over the coming years. Does anyone know anything about him? Is he a hard thrower? Or a finesse guy? Thanks again, Tom.

10 of his 12 earned runs at Rochester were in his first three games nearly two months ago. He hasn't allowed a run since returning from the DL last month. What I find most interesting is that he hasn't been pitching every day or two. More like every four or five days. Although only going a couple innings at a time, are they getting him into a routine so that he can be starting games by late August?

Sano is getting lots of hits, but is also striking out a lot (back-to-back games with 2). Is Grz beginning another streak where he is hot, hot, hot? After a few games in the GCL last year, this kid sure is making an impression.

Same thought I had about Sano, Bjames. I have been more critical of Stewart than most here for the last couple years. Wanted to see him get it done on the field before getting excited about him again. When I saw his performance yesterday, thought maybe he is turning it around. Checked his last ten starts, saw that he gave up 5 or more runs in four of them. Guess that time isn't yet here. And there still is room on the Miranda bandwagon for those who haven't jumped on board yet. But speaking of Kernels third basemen, what about Bechtold. Hasn't gotten the hype that Miranda has, but has hit for about a .300 average since June 1. And Seth and others tell us that his defense at third base is awesome. Certainly should keep his name on the list of those we need to watch closely. And what a nice day for two 19-year old starters, Balazovic and Benninghoff. Has to be especially encouraging for Benninghoff after missing all of his draft year and almost all of last year following surgery. Could turn out to be another real smart move for this front office. That 2016 draft could turn out to be real special and may put them over the top four or five years from now. Why can't baseball be like all those other sports where you can get a return on draft picks the year they are drafted?

Article: TB 19, MIN 6: This Never Happened
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Talked Bonnie into coming home from shopping so I could watch Berrios vs. Archer. Really enjoyed the first three innings. After that, I really don't know what happened, other than it was ugly, really ugly! From what I read this morning, Slegers didn't tell the staff about his sore shoulder until Friday. Gotta wonder if it was bothering him during his last start? He isn't the answer to what they need to get back in the playoffs, but is a good starter to have at AAA for spot starts...at least until he becomes a free agent and signs elsewhere. -
There was another pitching performance yesterday, Seth, that may have been better than Enlow. Anthony Escobar threw 5 no-hit innings for the DSL Twins, striking out 4 and walking only one. This young 17-year old has an excellent 1.24 ERA with a 0.64 WHIP in 43.2 innings with 37 K's and only 7 walks. Escobar clearly is the top pitcher for this exciting team that has a 25-11 record.

Great to see Lewis move up. Plenty of season left for him to settle in to Hi A ball. Expect he will go thru an adjustment period similar to what Kirilloff has been doing. Can't say enough about Severino. I know a lot of prospects have put up big numbers at ETon, but this kid should be mentioned right along with them. Also great seeing both Enlow and Jax have very good nights on the mound. Gonsalves seems to be on track for spending September in the Twin Cities, well most of it.

Article: 2018 Twins Midseason Top Prospect List: 1-5
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As I read this, Seth, I was thinking Derek Jeter. Interesting that you also made that comment. Was also thinking about your mention of 15 years. It has been that long? Absolutely love this top 3. Gotta believe they match up with the top 3 of any organization in baseball. Now to keep them healthy and get them to the big leagues. On the flip side, #4 and #5 have been somewhat disappointing this year. Both their performances and prospects for the future. Maybe they can pick it up the last six weeks of the season.- 74 replies

After seeing that in the box score last night, I was looking to come here and find the answer. Was it an injury? Or something else...like maybe he is being called up for Sunday's game? I view Thorpe as the best starting pitching prospect in the organization who is close (Graterol is the best prospect, in my opinion). With so many injuries this year, the Twins can't take another hit like a serious injury would be to Thorpe. And an injury to Buxton too last night? Maybe everything will realign next year after this year from h.....

And suspense builds for the Top 5. Will Kirilloff surpass Gordon as the second best position player? Or maybe even move above Lewis? Who will be the #1 pitcher, Gonsalves or Graterol? I am anxious to see what you have for us.
