What a nice game from Jax, probably the best of his career. Have been waiting since he was drafted to see him have a real chance, and he is delivering. I know his situation with the Air Force is somewhat unusual. Does he go back on active duty after his season ends? And there isn't a lot more to say about Moran. This kid just keeps getting better and better. You compared Williams home run rate to Rooker last year, Steve. Do you know how it compares to Sano and Rosario? I recall Sano ended up with 20 and Rosario with 21, but don't know what they had thru 42 games.

Great seeing the promotions for Larnach and Helman. Looks like Helman may be an 11th round pick to watch. Also good seeing Miranda at 3B at the Fort last night. What a night for L-K for the Miracle. Although less at bats, both are hitting better at the higher level...although Kirilloff's power is down a bit. That's almost hard to believe. Will be great if Pineda gets enough work the next two months so the Twins know he will be one of five for 2019. Sure had a good first look!

Thanks a lot for this, Seth. Really informative. Assuming health, I see Lewis and Kirilloff both joining the Twins in September, 2019. Both move to AA to start the year, or after a brief stay in Fort Myers. Move up to AAA in late summer before being added to the 40-man and called up following the season.

I think we need a different term to describe Escobar as a utility player the last few years with the Twins. When I think of utility player, I think of someone who can play multiple positions. Someone who is a backup at all of those positions, maybe starting a few weeks at a time when player X is on the DL. Yes, Escobar seems to play several positions...three infield positions quite well. But he isn't a backup, rather a starter. Its just we don't know when he will be starting where...2B, SS, 3B, DH? When you think of utility player, that doesn't describe him. Maybe super utility player? Is there some other term?

A year from now I want to see Polanco/Escobar. Then Polanco/Arraez when Esco is playing 3B. Two years from now, Lewis/Polanco.

See that Romero has now pitched the same # of innings as last year, 125. Great seeing yesterday's type of performance this late in his season. Expect he will be back with the Twins by September, at the latest. Great seeing Arraez with another multi-hit game. He has a five game hitting streak with 3 of the 5 multi-hit games. Has also hit safely in 9 of his last 10. Looks like he is back hitting like the player we know and at a new level. I doubt Miranda is going to sit much at Fort Myers. He has about four weeks left to react to this new level of pitching. Hopefully, there will also be a playoff run for him to experience.

I don't know about anyone else, but doesn't this team have a different feel since the trading deadline is behind them? Maybe its just playing KC, but look what they did against them down there ten days ago. Maybe its having the uncertainty of the deadline behind them? Or maybe its some type of chemistry thing. But Sano, Polanco, Kepler and every couple games Jake Cave seem to have brought this team to life. Add that to Rosie, Berrios and Gibby and the next two months might be a lot of fun. Although that would probably disappoint Patrick Ruesse. And what a nice outing by both Moya and Trevor May. Still believe that May can be a special late inning guy.

Will second the above comments about Jeffers. Doubt that anyone, including the scouts that recommended drafting him, expected a start like this. Can he continue hitting like this? Davis also caught my eye, as a 2 homer night is apt to do. He is another young prospect who has been very good for a couple years while flying a bit under the radar. What may be most interesting is that his production seems to get better as he moves up the ladder. Was this Cutura's best start as a professional, Tom? And a shout out to Austin Schulfer for an excellent start at ETon. Gotta be rooting for anyone from the Stevens Point area of Wisconsin.

Reed was eligible for the Rule 5 draft last year and wasn't selected. If the Twins don't add him to the 40-man, is he a goner this year, Seth? With no earned runs, what more does Stashak need to do to get a little respect? [not complaining about your choice, Seth, and would insert a smiley face here if I knew how] Moran's numbers this summer remind me a bit of Moya last year. Although Moya has had several stops with the Twins, he hasn't been a shut down reliever...at least not yet. Although there are several more steps to take, maybe Moran can be that special reliever every team needs two or three of.

I have always believed that the step that ends so many careers is the move up to AA. Well, Tyler Wells sure doesn't think so. Yes, it was only one outing against a sub-.500 team, but congrats for a hell of a pitching performance. And kudos also for TD's pitcher of the day, Brusdar Graterol. If this kid keeps this up, he just may become a true ACE. Kind of like that guy getting some award at Target Field tonight. Wouldn't it be something if the Twins could have two ACES a few years out. [i am assuming Berrios is/will be the other] With pitchers like Graterol and a lineup including Lewis, Kirilloff, Blankenhorn, Gryz and that new guy, the Miracle just might overcome a 1.5 game deficit and battle themselves into the playoffs. Saw the comments above about Enlow. Not concerned because I expect he too is beginning to tire as the season wears on. Had a wonderful stretch of five games where he gave up one or no runs. Not so good the last two outings. Yet, looking at last night he put up zeros early in the game, then a run in the 4th and 5th innings before giving up a three spot in the 6th. Tells me the he is tiring as the season and games roll on. I continue to be impressed with Yunior Severino. Thanks to Atlanta cheating, the Twins may have found a future star. Two plus million for Severino and another big check for that kid from Venezuela looks to me like the Twins did very well with this year's International budget. I love the changes that were put in place in the last CBA for International signings. Will keep the big spenders from 'bending' the rules to out spend most of the teams by a lot. Expect we will see the effect that has on the talent level for teams like the Yankees over the coming years.

Article: MIN 6, KC 4: Long Day at the Office

What a great night for the Twins. Rosario, Polanco and Sano each had two hits. And Kepler got walked 3 times. As they play out the season, we need to see all four of those players having a good two months as preparation for 2019. And Trevor May hitting 95 mph with a clean inning with 3 strikeouts...well, he gave up a hit but it didn't do any damage. Whether it is in the starting rotation or bullpen, the Twins need a healthy and effective May in 2019. Personally, I have always seen him as a potential shutdown late inning reliever. To win a championship, they need at least three...perhaps May can be one of them.- 17 replies

Not denying they need players in the middle INF. My point was that several have said they need all three. That is saying Polanco shouldn't be included. I am of the opinion that he merits being at one of the two spots. Which depends on what they do in the offseason.- 42 replies

Why are so many saying we have nothing at 2B, SS and 3B? Polanco had a tremendous last couple months of 2017 and is doing a good job since returning in early July. Whether he is at 2B or SS the next few years, certainly has earned the right to be at one of them.- 42 replies

I think they keep putting him out there for most of the month. Try to stretch him out to at least 125+ innings (currently at 103). That would be four more starts. Maybe they begin to pull him earlier in the game, although last night he went to 99 pitches. If they get 125+ this year, he will be on track for 160 or so next year when some of those innings should be at Target Field.

Nick Gordon hasn't earned the right to be called up. Although he may come up in September, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get the call then either.- 42 replies

Rooker and Wiel continue to mash at Chattanooga. Rooker's performance is kind of special considering he was drafted less than 14 months ago. Meanwhile, Luis Arraez has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games with two multi hit games in his last three. Hitting .342 over that 10 game stretch tells me he is making the adjustment to AA and must be considered a candidate for the Twins second base spot by 2020, if not sometime next year. Lewis Thorpe had a solid, if not great, outing last night. I see he has pitched about 25% more innings than last year. Will his arm begin to tire and he will be less dominant as the innings build? I see they worked Raley into the Lookouts lineup in right field with Wiel at first and Rooker in left.

I was thinking while reading this report, Seth, that I had read that Ober was on the DL. When reading about him and the elbow, my only comment was BAH HUMBUG! Hopefully, with one TJ surgery behind him, that isn't what's going on this time. What didn't compute for me was Wells 3.52 ERA and 0.78 WHIP. Didn't go back and look, but must have been a couple of home runs in there some where. And some really nice performances by that HM group. Why do you think we haven't seen Gonsalves at Target Field, Seth? Has it been the walks?

Expect this is another case of Buxton and the Twins trying to get him back on the field to soon. That happened with the toe, expect the wrist felt ok and wasn't. Does Jax deserve a spot in the top 20 is an interesting question. Would have thought yes, until the last week made getting into the Twins Top 20 a lot more difficult. Really like Lt. Jax, but maybe 20 something is more appropriate. (I assume Jax is a 1st LT, although going thru the Academy he could be a CPT...does anyone know?) Did you know, Seth, that yesterday's runs were the first earned runs allowed in Navas' career. Including last year in the DSL, Navas had appeared in 14 games without allowing an earned run. We are frequently seeing the name Erick Rivera in these reports. This year's 14th round pick out of Puerto Rico looks to be a good pick, especially considering he is only 17 years old.

Very interesting. I also heard something last night when he was asked about August waiver trades. Sounded like he was both positive about doing one and that it may not be the norm, ie, we get someone like Santana thru waivers and trade him for cash and that PTBNL. After reading your comment, got thinking that maybe they trade someone like Santana together with a good prospect for a very good prospect closer to being ready, maybe AA. Prospect leaving could be one of ours or one of those we just acquired. We have upgraded both the quantity and quality of the organization. Maybe they will focus on upgrading more quality this month.

Looking at what Miranda and Gryz did and they weren't in the Top 5? What a month. It took Jeffers what, five games to adjust to the Midwest League. Will he rise fast thru the organization, Seth? Or will his defense slow his progress a bit? With the first baseman coming over from the Dodgers yesterday, how will he fit with the rotation between Rooker and Wiel? [am assuming he goes to AA]

I agree, Steve. I like these new guys. One thought I had this morning is that the recent acquisition of two 1st basemen spells the end of Kennys Vargas run with the organization. Always liked him and would have liked to see what he could have been had he gotten 450-500 at bats for the Twins. And is Austin a better fit with Mauer next year than Morrison? [i am assuming Joe signs for another year or two] One player from this year's draft that keeps catching my eye is Michael Davis. How did he last to the 24th round of this year's draft? I am not concerned with how Benninghoff does this year, just glad to see him taking the ball every five days.

Yet, his playing defense had nothing to do with this year's injuries. The migraine is something he lives with. Then he fouled a ball off his toe. And his last hand injury came while at bat, didn't it? Nothing reckless with any of these.

This week is kind of like waking up on Christmas morning with lots of presents under the Christmas tree. Probably should thank Santa Falvine for all these new toys. Watching all these new prospects is sure going to make the next month interesting. Great seeing Jeffers with that big game last night. Looked at Miranda's numbers the last ten games. Not only is he on fire, he has walked (4) more times than he struck out (3).
