  1. That’s my fear. And if that’s the case, then my time as an MLB fan is numbered. The league continues to shoot themselves in the foot chasing today’s dollar at the expense of future revenue. They won’t realize their mistake until it’s too late.
  2. I’ve contemplated over the last couple of years whether I still enjoy Major League Baseball. My hope is efficiency over entertainment is a temporary era like most things in the sport’s history. Because right now, the 5 and fly starters, carousel of relievers, and every player swinging for the fences is not fun to watch. I’ve been watching fewer games each passing year. Who or what is going to stop MLB from moving in this direction?
  3. Basically where I’m at. I’ve seen what I need to see and I’m not intrigued by the FO duo anymore. Frankly I don’t want them to hand out $100+ million contracts to FA SP. That’s not what they were hired to do, and the ROI on those contracts rarely works out in the favor of the signing team. I would be on board with trading our redundancies on roster and a top prospect or 2 for one of Miami’s starters under control. Or Zac Gallen if Arizona decides it’s time to tear it down. Basically this team needs to win early and often to earn back fans. As well as updating the type of baseball we’ve seen over the last 2 years. Filling the lineup with players who swing for the fences and putz around the bases isn’t cutting it anymore.
  4. 1. Pitching, pitching, pitching. I don’t want to hear about the 2020 lost covid season anymore. They were hired to develop pitching and we need to see more of it. 2. Change the make up of the offense. The feast or famine lineup has floundered. Long term core players like Kepler and Polanco are declining, but still have valuable contracts. Add some contact, add some speed, add some fundamentals to the lineup. 3. Strike gold on a reclamation project. Before people throw a hissy fit, every team signs them every year. 4. Sign one of the top FA SS or a right handed hitting OF who can play CF.
  5. They did worse. This season is a tough pill to swallow.
  6. It’s better to be 3-1 and figure out these issues vs. 1-3. Which we easily could be. It seems like Kirk is struggling with the new offense. He’s trying to push the ball downfield more, but he has a mental block that’s preventing him from throwing into tight windows consistently. Unless the guy is wide open, or the game is on the line, he is programmed to not take those chances. I don’t know if that can be coached out of him. The defense on the other hand is a mess. The same issues show up on a weekly basis. No pass rush, and a mediocre at best secondary. It’s why this offseason was frustrating to run it back with the same core of players… Most of them don’t fit into the new 3-4 defense outside of ZaDarius Smith.
  7. RBI isn’t the hip, now, with it, and wow stat anymore. However, the 2022 Twins are approaching dangerous territory without a single player matching or beating that number of 70 RBI. In the last 30+ years of Twins baseball, which includes several absolutely horrible teams, there was always at least one person driving in runs. The 1999 Twins was the worst example I could find, with Marty Cordova leading the team with 70 RBI. As we stand the night of 10/3, Jose Miranda is the closest to reach this elusive feat of 70 RBI with 66. Will we have a single Twins player finish the season with 70+ RBI?
  8. Hate to break it to you DSP, but the apathy towards the Twins is going to get worse before it improves. A new scoreboard and more bar options isn’t going to entice people to buy tickets. This brand of Twins baseball is driving away diehard fans and casual fans in droves. The narrative about people being scared to go downtown is so overblown and false. It’s debunked every single week in the fall when the Vikings sell out a 70,000 person stadium, the Gophers attract 40,000+ fans, and the T Wolves will have sell outs for most of this coming season.
  9. A much needed assessment heading into the offseason. A lot of this is not ideal - especially Mahle and Winder where they can’t find anything wrong structurally in MRI scans. A couple of these players will bounce back next year and contribute. A couple of these players won’t truly bounce back for the rest of their careers. I am very concerned that Kirilloff’s injury is career ending. In football, tearing your ACL twice means your days are over playing professionally. We’ll see if it’s different in baseball. As others mentioned, this article could have listed another 6-7 players who have had recurring injuries in the last couple of years. I think @LastOnePickedis spot on. 2023 is going to be the year to rehab these players and ship them off to start a rebuild. Given the horrid attendance numbers and uncertainty about the local TV contract, odds are slim we will see a ~$150 million payroll in 2023.
  10. Spot on, stringer bell. The offense never held up their end of the bargain. I would look at the roster on B-Ref and see all of these guys with OPS+ over 100. It never jived with what we saw on the field. Jose Miranda needs 4 RBI in the final 3 games, otherwise we will end the season with no one hitting 70 RBI. Brutal. If the pitching wasn’t over performing at the beginning of the year, we would finish the year with 90+ losses. It was predictable that they’d regress to the mean, and it was assumed that the offense would take over more. Didn’t happen. It was also planned that prospects would take over throughout the season for under performing vets. That also didn’t happen. Roster turnover needs to happen. We need to strip away the redundancies on the roster. Mainly our abundance of LH hitting corner OF, and back of the rotation SP. IMO it’s time to say goodbye to some long term core players like Kepler and Polanco. If we end up running it back with the vast majority of players and blame it all on injuries, that’s a recipe for another below .500 season.
  11. Thanks for doing the weekly recaps for another season Nick. I haven’t had the desire to turn on a Twins game since the first Cleveland series in September. If Gordon is indeed viewed as an OF, it only adds to the redundancy on roster. Something’s gotta give this offseason. Kepler, Kirilloff, Larnach, Wallner, Contreras, Cave, and Gordon - all LH hitting corner OF. Some how, some way, the powers that be need to build up Ober so he can handle a SP workload.
  12. The defense is unlikely to get any better. Not after Lewis Cine snapped his ankle in half today.
  13. We are the luckiest 3-1 team in football. It will get exposed soon enough. The defense ain’t it. And Kirk isn’t doing the offense any favors.
  14. That game was absolutely exhausting. It would be nice to watch one game this year where I’m not worried about having a heart attack.
  15. Disappointing homecoming loss today vs. Purdue. This offense can’t function without Mo Ibrahim at RB.
  16. 98-58 Mets vs. 97-59 Braves tonight. DeGrom vs. Fried. That’s a matchup worth tuning into.
  17. Tell us how you really feel, Carlos. Sheesh. I’m still unsure he’ll get the long term deal he’s looking for.
  18. As it should. I enjoy football very much, but I have very little interest attending an NFL game. When you’re there, you realize just how much they stand around doing nothing for commercial breaks.
  19. Can you catch me up on the last month of action when I last turned on a Twins game?
  20. Oops. Shouldn’t have brought your glove to the game dude.
  21. This helmet and jersey combo is my all time favorite out of all the options over the years. Love the dark purple and gray face mask. I wish they were our every game attire.
  22. Baseball has the highest number of unique teams winning a championship in the last 15-20 years out of the 4 major sports. So overall I think they’ve been doing a good job as far as the end result is concerned. The NBA hasn’t been on my radar at all over the last 20 years (other than me hopping on the T Wolves bandwagon once the playoffs started) because it’s so dynasty driven throughout their existence. MLB isn’t seeking revenue parity which I think is the crux of what @Trovis looking for. They want each individual team to negotiate the largest regional TV contract possible and continue to hide their content behind paywalls. I think they enjoy having the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Giants, etc. as perennial contenders.
  23. For the first time in damn near a decade, we have a competent OL.
