  1. Any more requirements you want to add to your question to get the answer you want? Which fast food chain are you interested in going to that’s average, within a 2 mile drive, assuming you don’t want to spend more than $6, and serves McChickens? We should be looking for a long term solution at SS. And yep, that’s going to cost some money. The books are damn near pristine from bad investments. The free agent SP market is a graveyard of poor investments. So why not invest on a safer bet like one of the 4 top 10 short stops in the game?
  2. Baseball is definitely the most random sport in their playoffs. Hockey is a close 2nd because if you have a hot goalie, you can win it all. You’re asking the wrong guy about basketball stuff. I hopped on the T Wolves bandwagon last year for fun. I prefer chaos over a predictable result like NBA.
  3. The only league that achieves that more often than not is the NBA. Personally I find that league extremely boring. Part of it is because of the sport itself. The other part is because stars play such a pivotal role in the league where if you don’t have 3 or more stars on your team, you have no chance. These days I could name 15-20 NBA players total. Yet I know if Steph Curry is healthy, the Warriors will make the NBA finals and likely win it all again.
  4. For all of the “angst” about the postseason results, the AL has been pretty much chalk so far. Yankees and Astros were the top 2 teams all season long in the AL.
  5. I think Falvey and Levine will know early in the offseason if Correa will re-sign with the Twins or not. And if not, then move on and pursue the other 3 top FA SS. LA Dodgers have been over the competitive tax threshold for 2 years in a row, hit the “Steve Cohen penalty” this year, and will likely take a step back in spending. The Yankees have to worry about paying Judge a gazillion dollars this offseason. The Cubs are crying poor and not competitive. Boston just paid Story $140 million. All the talk in the first couple years of Falvine’s tenure was “financial flexibility”. Whelp, here we are. The books have never been cleaner. If they don’t spend money now for a clear need at SS, it’s never going to happen.
  6. If I were Rob Manfred, I’d trim down the regular season to 110-120 games starting mid-April and ending on August 31. Then have a March Madness style playoff tournament for the entire month of September. Baseball ending in early November is way too late in the year.
  7. There’s a book called The Drunkard’s Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives. In the book, they attempted to establish how many games 2 playoff caliber teams would have to play against each other to determine with 95% confidence who was the better team. The answer they came to is a 269 game series. Best of 3, 5, 7, or 9. It wouldn’t matter. Randomness will take over.
  8. Boy, this season couldn’t start off any worse. Goaltending has been horrendous. There’s a clear disconnect between Evason and Billy G in regards to Marco Rossi’s readiness to play in the NHL. On a positive note, Kaprizov is off to a hot start. Boldy looks like a star in the making, and Addison looks like he belongs in the show.
  9. That isn’t a thing in this year’s free agency class. Spending a ton of money for free agent pitching is also not what this front office was hired to do.
  10. Relying on Lewis is the biggest risk of all IMO. It’s like the Aaron Hicks situation all over again. Clearing a freeway for him to win the starting job, and if he fails, there’s no one besides Rob Refsnyder types to replace him. Ideally I want a long term solution at SS, then Lewis when he’s ready to go can play CF and fill in at SS/3B. Because let’s be honest, we need a real solution when Buxton misses 50% of the games. Celestino as a sub .600 OPS player ain’t it.
  11. Go sign one of the top 4 free agent SS. I don’t really care who they end up signing out of Turner, Swanson, Boegarts, and Correa. It just needs to be done. There’s plenty of room in the budget for the long term commitment.
  12. I am 99% sure you are the only one so far not to have Arraez plugged in at 1B. Thank you for that. He filled in admirably when Sano went down for the season. However, he is no short or long term solution at the position.
  13. After getting burned by the Twins’ hot start the first 1/3rd of the season, I’m hesitant to believe in this Vikings team. We haven’t seen them play a complete game. The flaws are evident every week. We’ve been incredibly fortunate playing teams at the right time… New Orleans without their #1 QB, #1 RB, and #1 WR. Miami with a 7th round rookie QB who has no business touching the field this year and Teddy. November is going to be the real test for this team. At Washington, at Buffalo, vs. Dallas, vs. NE. Once we go through that gauntlet we’ll know if this is a 9 win team or a 12 win team.
  14. Same thing applies to hitters as well. You would think we’d learn our lesson one of these years, but sports is all about selling hope.
  15. There’s no reason the Twins should not be in on one of the top 4 short stop free agents.
  16. Yep. Same thing for free agent CF. That list is uninspiring
  17. Today I learned MLB.com’s calculation of WAR is absolutely bizarre. Carlos Correa is worth 9.7 WAR? In what world?
  18. Pete Maki will remain as pitching coach. Tommy “windmill” Watkins remains as 3B coach.
  19. I’d look to build a combo package around Polanco, Wallner, and Ober. The Marlins likely have different valuations but the gist is to trade our redundancies (LH hitting corner OF, back of the rotation controlled SP, 2B) for one of their SP.
  20. Priority #1: Trading for a top of the rotation pitcher. The ROI from free agent starting pitching is mostly bad. The risk is too much to give Rodon a 5-6 year guaranteed deal. Work something out with Miami who has a ton of pitching and minimal offensive talent. Priority #2: Sign one of the top 4 free agent SS. Then prepare Royce Lewis to take a ton of fly balls. He will be a primary CF when he returns mid season. Priority #3: Glove first C. If Falvey is going to rely once again on the pitching pipeline, I want a player who can call a good game and help them out. Priority #4: Adding speed and contact skills wherever they see fit.
  21. The first axe has been used on a Head Coach. Carolina fires Matt Rhule after yet another slow start to their season. Others that are highly likely to get fired: Nathaniel Hackett - DEN, Josh McDaniels - OAK, Ron Rivera - WAS Likely to get fired if the season doesn’t turn around: Brandon Staley - Chargers, Kliff Kingsbury - Cardinals Low chance, but not 0%, of getting fired: Dan Campbell - Lions, Dennis Allen - Saints, Frank Reicht - Colts
  22. Just a total bonehead move by Smith-Marsette. That was a textbook catch the ball and get out of bounds play. Which the Vikings D was gladly going to give to him. Instead he tried being the hero and ruined the comeback opportunity for the Bears.
  23. The fact that this team is 4-1 right now is amazing. I’m pretty critical of Kirk but it’s solely because of him we have this record.
  24. Tale of 2 halves. The first half the offense was dominating, defense held their own. The second half everything is falling a part.
