  1. I don't get the Twins post game because I live in Maine. But that isn't the point I was attempting to make. Everyone already knows that Archer will only last until the fourth or fifth inning. If that's a given fact, then why bother calling it a negative aspect of the game. It's a normal part of any game in which Archer pitches.
  2. The Twins' catchers in the high minors are having great years. Chris Williams in AAA is hitting .271 with 25 HRs and an OPS of .940. Alex Isola in AA is hitting .304 with 10 HRs and an OPS of .908. Is it possible that a second catcher for the 2023 Twins may already be in the system?
  3. Is it mandatory to say only negative things? Archer was Archer. Did you expect Nolan Ryan instead. He is what he is. Enjoy the great game. BTW, if you must insert a negative comment, how about the Boston defense?
  4. Whoa. Slow down there, wabene. You should know by now that you are NOT allowed to say positive things about Baldelli. He is the source of all bad things that happen to the Twins. ?
  5. Some comments from Maine where I watched the game on NESN with Red Sox announcers (they used Dennis Eckersley and Kevin Millar as duel analysts). 1. They had many positive comments about the Twins, singling out Arraez several times, along with Urshela, Kepler, Gordon, and Miranda. 2. Why has no one mentioned the potentially game saving catch by Kepler? The announcers sure made a big deal about it. 3. Eckersley went nuts when Duran was pitching, calling him an unfair advantage for the Twins. He was being sarcastic because he went on and on about how fun it was to watch him destroy the Sox batters. 4. I read a comment yesterday in which a frequent contributor made the assertion that no hitter can intentionally hit a pitch where he wants. I hope he watched this game because there where multiple examples of this very skill. 5. I DVR'd the game so I could watch after the significant other went to bed. Even with fast forwarding through commercials, pitching changes, and other lulls in the action, I didn't get done until almost 1:30AM. Baseball needs to pick up the pace. And tonight I get to do it again.
  6. While reading this article, a question popped up. Does the staff at Twins Daily archive past articles and comments? I would love to get an idea of what readers thought of Baldelli's management style in 2019 and 2020 when the Twins were winning as compared to 2021 and 2022 when they are struggling. I doubt his technique has changed but have the opinions about these techniques shifted?
  7. But it is so much easier to cherry pick a single statistic to "prove" whatever point of view that you prefer. (Insert sarcasm emoji here ?.)
  8. 40 point higher batting average is "modestly better"? That's 20 to 25 more hits every year.
  9. Because he gets on base more often than Player Y which provides RBI chances for other hitters.
  10. For Saints games, does the word "home" now mean both home run and homer? It was used twice so I assume it wasn't laziness.
  11. Based on the past few years, I would think the expansion slots will be filled by activating IL players and keeping aging veterans who will not be back in 2023. No young talent will be given a taste of the major leagues.
  12. The game was a national broadcast by Fox, but it was blacked out in Portland Maine! WTF??? With which team was this game a conflict? The Red Sox were already being broadcast by NESN so that wasn't a problem. NYC is the next closest team and they are 320 miles away. That happens quite often.
  13. Does anyone remember Jose Palacios? Personally, I would rather have him at $700K than Urshela at $10M.
  14. I think this is a very revealing comment. Rocco isn't doing what "we feel is playing with your gut & heart instead of looking at the numbers." I read this as saying he should be fired because he doesn't do what the readers of an internet web site want him to do. Is it possible that he might know more about baseball than the readers? I guess not.
  15. Talk about focusing on the wrong thing. Or maybe I wasn't clear enough. I did answer that I would be impressed by the length of a home run that left the stadim. But not by the exit velocity. Exit velocity only compares numbers from the past seven (7) years and ignores almost 96% of baseball history. Talk about a small sample size! What was the exit velocity of Mickey Mantle's 565 foot home run? No one knows but I'm pretty sure it could have been higher. But, once again I say, Who Cares?
  16. I am getting the impression that you don't think too highly of Rocko Baldelli? You might be overlooking the team he was given by the front office with which to work. In my opinion, the early season (unexpected) success clouded the judgment of many about the quality of this team.
  17. Who cares what the launch angle was? Longest home run ever is interesting but I don't care about launch angle or exit velocity. You might as well add what he ate for breakfast or read before the game while sitting on the toilet. Longest HR ever is about the history of the game. Highest exit velocity only includes the years 2015-2022 and ignores the first 176 years of baseball.
  18. Just yesterday (or maybe the day before) one of the "highlights" in the recap of another Twins loss was Kepler reaching 107 MPH exit velocity. It was an out but Kepler did good because he hit it hard. Whoppee!!! A bunt against the shift would impress me a lot more.
  19. I disagree. Let's take a quick, outside-the-box look at 2023. Here is my starting eight position players. C. Alex Isola 1B. Luis Arraez 2B. Eduard Julian SS. Jermaine Palacios 3B. Jose Miranda LF. Trevor Larnach CF. Byron Buxton RF. Alex Kirilloff Bench 1. Ryan Jeffers Bench2. Gilberto Celestino Bench3. Nick Gordon Bench4. TBD SP1. Joe Ryan SP2. Kenta Maeda SP3. Tyler Mahle SP4. Sonny Gray SP5. Chris Paddock RP1. Jhoan Duran RP2. Jorge Lopez RP3. Jovani Moran RP4. Michael Fulmer RP5. Griffen Jax RP6. Caleb Theilbar RP7. Cole Sands RP8. Josh Winder RP9. TBD That's a 26-man roster with two vacancies. Rounding the second year salaries to an even $1M and giving arbitration-eligible players a small bump, this results in about a $77M payroll. Using $130M as the target budget, this gives the Twins $53M with which to find another corner outfielder and a starting pitcher. It also would give them an opportunity to replace a couple of relief pitchers that I have listed above. When do we start on 2024? ?❓
  20. Now is the time for auditioning as many younger players as possible. The Twins will probably not make the playoffs and they have many off-season decisions ahead. The remainder of the 2022 season is their research and development time.
