Both of these players have spent years, not weeks, in the minors already. So using your own logic, it's time to give them a shot at the Bigs.

Bring both to Target Field - Martin in LF and Julien at 2B. Make the best deal for Polanco and Keplar as possible. Bring in two RPs, a catcher, one of the Big Four SS, and see what money you have left over for souvenirs at the winter meetings.

My Opinion I would offer Correa a 10-year, $310M, front-loaded contract. The 1st year would be $40M and would decrease by $2M each year. This would benefit Correa because of the present value factor (money earned now is worth more than the same amount earned in the future). And it would benefit the Twins in two ways. It would lock down the shortstop position for at least the next five years and would give the Twins payroll flexibility as Correa's skills diminish.

Twins Call on Paparesta to Fix Injury Woes

I wish the players would follow the conditioning protocols of possibly the greatest ballplayer in history - Babe Ruth. He hardly ever missed a game even when his hangover was pounding away. -
Can Catcher Be Where the Twins Find Offense?

Contreras is a .240 hitter who drives in about 55 runs a year. Do the Twins want to give a big contract to an aging catcher with modest offense?- 21 replies

In my backwoods opinion, if the Twins make several big moves this off-season, the value of the team would also increase for three reasons: A) the additional star power bringing more fans to the stadium, increased merchandise sales, and C) a team being a legitimate World Series contender. Adding $25M to the budget would be pretty minor if the team value goes up to $1.6B or more.

A couple of minor items. Lewis played 46 innings in CF in the fall league and didn't get hurt. All this worry about another injury is just waiting to happen (adding the traditional IMHO) is silly. And his first injury was because he (a Texan) decided to walk outside in an ice storm and see what it was all about. No connection to baseball. I lived in Texas for 22 years and I know how idiotic they get when snow and ice are present. And as for Correa blocking talent, both Martin and Lewis can be oufielders if necessary. They have both played there in the past. No one knows if Kirilloff or Larnach will come back healthy. If they, and all the other young players you mentioned, become good MLB players, then starting trading people to fix any weaknesses you might have. Too much talent is rarely a problem for any sports franchise.

In my old-man opinion, right now is the time for the Pohlad's to throw caution to the wind, up the payroll to $170M, and go all in on being top 5 team for the rest of the 2020's. Give Correa, Rodon, Contreras, the best non-Judge RH-hitting outfielder, and relief pitcher whatever it takes to sign them. Mix them in with the young guys coming up and sit back and enjoy baseball. Yeah, I know a lot of people will respond saying that it will never happen, but that's why I began this response with it's "just my old-man opinion".

I decided to improve the catching, not pursue a shortstop, and bulk up the bullpen. I also opted not to include trades. It's a tad over budget but Pohlad can skip Starbucks once a week. C Ryan Jeffers ($0.70M) 1B: Luis Arraez ($4.50M) 2B: Jorge Polanco ($7.50M) 3B: Gio Urshela ($9.00M) SS: Jose Iglesias ($5.00M) LF: Alex Kirilloff ($0.70M) CF: Byron Buxton ($15.00M) RF: Max Kepler ($8.50M) DH: Jose Miranda ($0.70M) 4th OF: Matt Walner ($0.70M) Utility: Nick Gordon ($0.70M) Utility: Gilberto Celestino ($0.70M) Backup C Mike Zunino ($10.00M) SP1: Sonny Gray ($12.00M) SP2: Tyler Mahle ($8.00M) SP3: Kenta Maeda ($9.00M) SP4: Joe Ryan ($0.70M) SP5: Bailey Ober ($.70M) RP: Jhoan Duran ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Lopez ($3.00M) RP: Griffin Jax ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Alcala ($1.00M) RP: Caleb Thielbar ($2.00M) RP: Edwin Diaz ($18.00M) RP: Kenley Jensen ($15.00M) RP: Josh Winder ($0.70M) Payroll is 2.7% over budget

Your comment that "your #1 starter only gets to start the first game once per series" makes me ask: How many first games of a series should there be? (Please insert a sarcasm emoji here.)

Your solution is brilliant! Just spend $90M of a $60M budget on three guys (who obviously must not have any voice in the matter). Perfect.

Trying reading up on the North Stars history after their 1991 appearance before commenting. Green guttted the team to save money and attendance plummeted.
-
The bottom line in my opinion (pun intended) is that the yearly profits and the overall value of the Twins would increase if competitive teams were put on the field. The Twin Cities population has absolutely no obligation to support a crappy team. Just ask Norm Green. He belittled hockey fans in Minnesota because they refused to support the inferior product he put on the ice. So he snuck out of town and took the team to Dallas. Now the Wild are here and working hard to put a quality team on the ice. Attendance doesn't appear to be a problem for them.

The Minnesota Twins' 2023 Payroll Preview
terrydactyls replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love those "just sign one or two Ace level pitchers" comments like that might really be an option. Why would top pitchers have any interest in signing with a team with a mediocre defense and an offense that disappears for weeks at a time. A more realistic goal would be to try to sign two starters at least as good as Gray or Ryan and a couple relievers similar or better than Jax. -

it's over. bye-bye carlos
terrydactyls replied to garn from vancouver's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
My comment is just my guess at what happens in 2023. I see two choices for the Twins. Either the Twins: A) Sign Correa, put their faith in the young pitchers, and spend what they can for a catcher, an outfielder, and a shortstop. Oar They don't sign Correa and spend what can for two quality starters (not a mythical "Ace"), two good relief pitchers, and then spend any leftover money on an OF, a SS, and a catcher. If the Twins decide A is the best option, I think the young arms will fail to produce and the season goes to hell by June. If the Twins decide B is the best option, all the pitching acquisitions succumb to shoulder/elbow problems and the season goes to hell by June. Either way, we start complaining about the Twins chosing Option A instead of Option B (or vice versa), dreaming about 2024, and debating what the Twins will need to do to during the off-season. -
This might be the perfect off-season to use Arraez as the centerpiece of a blockbuster trade (I couldn't think of a better word) for a top of the rotation starting pitcher????? Thoughts?

LastOnePicked mentioned the one thing I feel is paramount for the FO to do and that is to be open with the public. The Twins should have significant funds to spend. So I hope they make reasonable offers to some quality free agents and, if they don't sign, explain in clear terms why they didn't. Keep the public informed. And don't sign anymore retreads just so they can say they tried. If no one of quality wants to play in Minnesota, give the young guys an opportunity to be a MLB player.

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
terrydactyls replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I gave up reading the comments after page 1. The title of the article was "How Can Rocco Baldelli regain fans favor." The comments through the bottom of page 1 we're nothing more than the same complaints I've read all year. It doesn't matter if I agree or disagree, but all I read were suppositions, demands, and contradictory statements. I think the proper end to this entry is to quote every TV cop who is at the scene of a major accident: "Just move along folks. Nothin' to see here."- 147 replies

I just read that Correa want the Twins to "pay up" if they want him to stay. That comment says to me that Gordon or some other stop gap SS starts the 2023.
