  1. "Some fans might grumble at Ross's low ranking or placement on pre-draft lists" Really? He has already become a Twin. Why complain that he wasn't ranked higher prior to the draft? That "low" ranking may have the reason he was available for the Twins at pick #144. And, IMHO, as soon as the signing is complete, what you do on the field is the only thing that matters.
  2. Maybe that is because Julien has shown power the last couple years and the K/BB ratio this spring is the opposite of his past performance?
  3. The obvious solution is to have a 50-man active roster (despite the rules limiting a team to 26) and to fill the extra 24 slots with Cy Young and Silver Slugger type players who never get injured. This, of course, would require a payroll of probably $600M (plus an additional $300M in luxury tax). But I'm sure the free spending Pohlad family would be amenable to that. Problem solved. Next topic?
  4. Predictions for an entire team formulated from one inning each by two different pitchers from a very early spring training game?
  5. The signing of Correa is looking better every day. He is a top tier SS, a great mentor for the younger players, and it appears that he is also an assistant coach and assistant general manager.
  6. Remember when the fans were going wild at the old Nicollet Park? That old wooden structure would shake so bad that I was afraid it would collapse! I wonder if that's the reason I won't go on a roller coaster?
  7. So what? Because he might turn it down? Make the offer anyway. If he doesn't like it, so be it.
  8. Keep on preaching!!! I'm with you 100%. It's why the position is called "pitcher" and not "flinger". (That's actually a pretty stupid name, but I couldn't think of a better one.)
  9. The best solution to the long reliever problem is for the offense to take command of games so the Twins don't need long relievers. Especially in the playoffs. During their current 18-game playoff losing streak, they have averaged only 2.5 runs a game (1.5 since 2017). That doesn't win many games regardless of how the bullpen is constructed.
  10. I am in agreement with the people who, if there must be a ghost runner, prefer that it comes into effect after a few innings of "real" baseball (that number is TBD).
  11. In my humble opinion, this thread may be the silliest I've read on TD. The primary goal for any team should be to put players at whatever defensive position that provides the most benefit for the team. Who cares what position they played when drafted? Once they sign a contract, it's management's responsibility to determine where they best fit.
  12. According to the Brewers website, this is their playoff record. 2017: Missed playoffs 2018: 6-4 2019: 0-1 2020: 0-2 2021: 1-3 2022: Missed playoffs 7-10 overall
  13. You are very correct that he should be considered only as a DH. But he probably among the premier DHs. And why couldn't the Twins be a perennial contender? Extend Maeda and Mahle and you have a top 5 starting rotation, a strong bullpen, good defense, and a decent offense. That sounds to me like the blueprint for a perennial contender.
  14. This is one person's view concerning the possible upcoming free agency of Shohei Ohtani. There have been many predictions that Ohtani may be the first $500M player. The reaction of most people is that a price tag like that eliminates the Twins. But, does it? If Ohtani becomes a free agent, I think the Twins should make a quick offer of 8 years at a total of $480M (an AVV of $60M). WTF? you say? Why not? You get a genuine "ace" and a top tier outfielder wrapped up in a single person. The top three free agent pitchers in 2022 signed for an average AVV of $32M and the top three free agent hitters signed for an average AVV of $27M (or $59M combined). The offer looks outrageous but it is in line with the going rate. It also frees up an additional roster spot! And, from what I am hearing on MLB radio and TV, the merchandise sales in Japan alone might cover the entire salary. It is certainly worth taking a shot at signing Ohtani. Tell his agent it is your BAFO (best and final offer) and is good only for 24 hours. If he signs, great. If he doesn't sign, you gave it your best shot.
  15. Young talent could be starting at 9 of 10 offensive positions in 2024. 1B; Kirilloff 2B: Lee SS: Correa 3B: Miranda LF: Lewis CF: Buxton RF: Martin DH: Larnach That leaves one position where a prospect is badly needed - catcher. At the trade deadline, the Twins should offer Polanco, Gallo, Kepler, etc for a talented AA/AAA catcher.
  16. DocBauer, you beat me to it. Adding incentives might remove "betting on himself" as a reason not to sign an extension. He would have a base salary for the next 6-8 years that would provide a financially secure future PLUS the opportunity to add on a boatload of cash if he performs at the level he believes he can obtain. Sign him now.
  17. "He was involved in a verbal altercation" That is a vague statement that could be interpreted several ways. Most of the posters on this thread seem to think that Balazovic did something wrong. The altercation may have been between people other than him and he just got hit with a sucker punch while trying to prevent a fight. Until actual facts are available, I'll reserve judgement.
  18. I am not seeing anything. I have turned off my AD Blocker software. Do I need a social media account? I don't use (or like) social media.
  19. I cannot believe that you dare to use common sense and logic. That is not the Twins Daily way to contribute. Shame on you!!! 😁
  20. Do you actually believe that "everybody knew that Paddack's arm was ready to fall off & Pagan couldn't close" but they still made the trade? I truly doubt that was the case. I don't follow the Padres so I have no idea if they mismanaged Rogers. But based on the "everybody knew" comment, I would have to believe that isn't accurate either.
  21. Haven't you ever had a steak/potato/asparagus smoothie? Yum Yum! And I always thought Canadians were nicer than Minnesota Nice.
  22. Under the current CBA rules, is it possible for the front office to renegotiate Maeda's contract right now? If Maeda is agreeable to moving to the bullpen right now, sign him to a three-year $25M extension with a few relief-based incentives thrown in.
  23. Excellent point that half the league is below average defensively. It adds a great perspective to the conversation.
