  1. Our strategy of not paying pitching the past two years hasn't worked out... add in signing a catcher and potentially extending any pending FAs, and there will be plenty of ways to use that $35M.
  2. That's why I said in between - he was better than Mark Reynolds but lesser than Dunn, both of whom struck out quite a lot and had plenty of ups and downs in their careers.
  3. IMO he's been worth more around $20-25M so far. Great to have at SS, but his bat has been streakier than I expected. I wouldn't be shocked if things clicked going down the stretch and his bat heats up... but I'd also rather not be the team that gives him a 8 year deal. I'd rather put that money into other positions and rely on Lewis and Palacios for the future of the position. But I wouldn't hate to have Correa opt back in for 2023.
  4. Sano ended up averaging about 1.0-1.5 WAR per season. He was a solid hitter for his first few years and then has been a flop for the past 3 years - the prime of his career. The erosion of his plate discipline and inability to identify pitches has been baffling, but he's also had trouble keeping weight off, possibly adding to the injury issues. And the few playoff games he played in, he added zero value. The ceiling for him was Vlad Guerrero Jr., but we ended up getting something in between Adam Dunn and Bryan Reynolds. Over the aggregate he wasn't a bad player, but certainly a disappointment compared to what we knew he was capable of being.
  5. There is a key in the spreadsheet that reads: * = HR → = K ~ = BB That refers to the hitter/pitcher's rating check when it comes to HRs, Ks, and BBs. I didn't include this one, though: ** = If there are runners on base, they advance 2 bases instead of 1.
  6. Well, Rocco did what the fans wanted him to do. Will that 'energize' the team? I don't love the rules, but going by them that looked like a block. I know I'd be ticked if I were a Jays fan and he was called out definitively.
  7. For anyone who is interested, here is the spreadsheet with the Hitting and Pitching Master Cards, along with how to convert player stats to Strat-O-Matic ratings. Strat-O-Matic Baseball Hitting and Pitching Card.xlsx
  8. Kepler activated, Contreras sent down.
  9. Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com relays some more details from Kirilloff about the surgery, which he first discussed as a possibility back in May. It will apparently involve manually breaking his ulna, shortening it to create more space, and then inserting a plate and screws. Yikes, that sounds rough. Get well soon!
  10. Usually the strikeout takes precedence over the hit/HR since the idea is that if the hitter is able to make contact, then the hit could vary, but if the hitter doesn't make contact then it's a strikeout. There aren't any HR/K options on the hitting card, but the pitching card has some examples where the K comes first before anything else. Well, nowadays if you want to buy a new season of cards it's $50 plus shipping, and if you want the latest/current season you will have to wait months until they're ready to be purchased. Yes, the original cards are absolutely superior to my machinations... but for my younger self, this was the best way to do it.
  11. Rocco finally lets a starter go in the 6th inning and he falls apart... of course.
  12. Good gravy, they're taking Berrios out to the woodshed! Gordon has flashed some legit power, something that seemed like he was never going to develop!
  13. Not to mention that Cotton has already been DFA'd 3 different times this year... and then also brought up during the COVID stretch... yeah, the Twins clearly wish he had an option left.
  14. Sorry folks, the bullpen is not a strength. You can't hide 3 guys on a consistent basis. Yes, I don't agree with bringing Pagan in during the 6th inning in a 1-0 game, you can put that on Rocco. But he also can't use his best arms in every game, so using the likes of Megill and Duffey in this one were unavoidable. The coaching staff has got to figure out how to get some of these arms in the minors working in the majors or we're going to keep seeing the backend of our pen getting wrecked often. Feels like this might be it for Duffey's career as a Twin, or at least it should be. It was a good run, but it's time to move on. Pagan will probably get more chances because he's this year's Colome, but at some point you have to realize that he's been one of the worst relievers in baseball for the past 5-6 months of baseball and move on. You can only wait for the positive regression for so long.
  15. Let's not forget this is the Roster Moves thread, not debating over how bad Pagan is thread. I'm sure one of those will pop up very soon...
  16. Bradley Jr has been horrific at the plate his past 700 PAs... I'll pass. It sounds like Kepler will be back very soon and Contreras/Cave are fine as placeholders.
  17. Yeah, Minaya is the only guy left with more than one save. Sisk and Schulfer are the only guys with upside.
  18. I saw on Twitter today somebody saying ‘Pagan is actually underrated!’ Here’s a reminder that having a great K rate is meaningless when you get clobbered when guys get the bat on the ball.
  19. That's not right, it's lost 6 of last 10. We've only lost 6 games total against them and have beat them 9 times so far.
  20. Who had Leon making a positive impact before all other trade acquisitions?
  21. Problem is that most of them are injured - and Balazovic is having a horrid year. Varland and Raya are doing alright but that's about it.
  22. Thanks bullpen, for the reminder that even with two new additions this is still a very questionable pen...
