  1. I very much agree with this take. I'm usually fairly calm when Harper goes in as well, although I do think he does have to be used in the correct situations. He's not a high pressure setup guy or anything. If he's deployed as a change-of-look/pace fireman or sent out to get an inning or inning+ worth of outs against a group of hitters that maybe don't fair as well against the off-speed, he can be effective in any game. One of May, Duffey or Magill is OK for me as the #7 or 8 guy, because they do have big league stuff. I just find myself asking the TV too many times, "Why did you throw that there?" with those three. None of them ever looks comfortable either. I hope they pass on offering Parker arbitration. I just don't see any upside. Littell has been great in every game except one. He walks a bit more and Ks a bit less than I'd like, but he has been able to induce the GIDP at decent rate. Definitely need a larger body of work before anointing him as a fix. So, yeah, they need three guys. I hope they trade for at least one who is controllable past this year. Internally, I'd like to see more Poppen in a shorter role and then Stashak. I'm not sure if this is the season for looking at both though.
  2. I agree that the Twins shouldn't give up a top prospect for a Greinke contract, but I also agree with Dome Dogg that now is the time for them stop being cheap and loosen the purse strings even more to be willing to take on a Greinke-type contract. Mauer is off the books. Polanco and Kepler just re-upped for relative peanuts. 2020 is going to require starting pitching aquisitions anyway. I'd offer Lewin Diaz, Matt Magill and they pay half the remaining deferred salary payments ($12.75 mill) ... The Twins should also negotiate when they want to pay the deferred $12.75 mill that they will be responsible to pay out. He also gets $2 mill for being moved. Arizona can pay that too. It would be a blockbuster for the Twins, if Greinke approved it. I don't know how much he hates the Twins, since he blocked them. I would think the playoff chase and young core with manageable committed money (even after taking on his deal) would be enough for him to push it through.
  3. I don't feel good about this matchup today. Nibbling Gibson plays right into the strength of Oakland: Patience.
  4. I like theses series previews. Thanks for doing them. One suggestion: Can you add the expected pitching matchups? I realize that it may be TBD a lot, but it's good info. Thanks again!
  5. Baldelli: "80 is the new 100. You start to consider things like heat exhaustion on a day like today. Martin wanted to sit in front of a fan with his blanket, so I didn't want to upset him.
  6. DFA May and try someone else ... Also Baldelli needs to stop the ultra-coddling ... Pulling guys at 70-80 pitches when they're effective is just nonsense when you hand the ball to someone like rubberneck May
  7. Schoop is certainly in a funk at the plate. Even when he does lock in on the pitch he's looking for, he seems to be fouling it more often than not. I'm hoping he comes out of it, because he's been steady at second with an amazing arm. Otherwise, he may need to just be on the slight side of a platoon. I can't see dealing him. The clutch numbers posted are definitely concerning. I hope they give Arraez a Polanco contract, because he certainly appears to be the real deal. He's also fun to watch.

  9. Stashak has got to be an add, if he isn't already on the 40 sooner. I would think the Marlins could use someone like Zander Wiel, Jaylin Davis or Lamonte Wade Jr. Their outfield is pretty bad.
  10. Mr. Hands, I mean Max Kepler, sticking it to Bauer was awesome. The self-proclaimed 2019 Cy Young award winner is going to be feasting on a whole murder of crow by season's end. Leading the league in only innings and hit batters doesn't typically result in Cy Young awards. He may not even be top 10.
  11. Yes, please. I would love a shorter season and only playing Yankee trash six times every 3 years.
  12. Throwing two bang snaps at a time without having a wastebasket nearby for the spent debris? I don't know if we should get that wild, girls.
  13. Sounds like a mail-it-in-before-the-break strategy. It will probably be accompanied by scheduled off days for Kepler, Polanco and Cruz.
  14. I can't believe Sideshow Tebow (489 OPS) still has followers. He even gets highlighted on a Twins site, even though there are probably easily 200 other opponent players that would be more worthy. Otherwise, it's great to see Bailey Ober go 4 innings and come back throwing strikes (28 pitches, 27 strikes) .... It's frustrating watching him come and go with all the injuries. I hope the stars align and he can at least have a few seasons of health and a chance to make a real impact.
  15. I wouldn't call Mejia's performance strong. He was completely bailed out by an on the screws throw from Gonzalez. He's not part of the solution. Unless the Twins are going to trade for two starters and about three relief arms, I think they should limit the trade acquisitions to players that will also at least be on the 2020 team.
  16. Berrios going 7.1 innings the day after an 18 inning game even when he wasn't pitching his A game may end up being an incredibly important losing performance. At least Cleveland got rammed by a team that couldn't even win 1 out of 6 against the Twins. Are we really worried about a team that is only 1 game above .500 against Baltimore?
  17. I agree that the strategy was reasonable, but not with the player that was tasked with executing it. Tom's critique of Baldelli not using the strengths of his players correctly is justified. Other's have added some information in the comments that seem to back the critique as well. Schoop looked completely lost and out of place trying to execute the bunt. The good thing is that Arraez and Cruz picked him (and Polanco) up, the bullpen held, and the number in the W column is one higher than it was at 7:09 PM CST on 6/26.
  18. The World Champs are 7-3 vs. the worst team in baseball, and some of those games could have gone either way as well. Yes, the Royals are pesky and probably do some fundamental things a bit better than the Twins, but their formula paired with their current talent level isn't a recipe for success and the record shows.
  19. Anyone have the stats on all the hits that Gibby gave up in the 7th? Do Buxton/Kepler make outs on any of those? Astudillo's foul catch was good, if not a little goofy, but he is in over his head out there.
