  1. The Kernels have some promising pitching, but they can't hit. Go look at their individual hitting stats and sort by at-bats then slide over to OPS. It's bad. Williams and Snyder are the only hitters, and they are old to very old for Single A. They need to get Javier and Severino back from injury. I also wasn't very impressed by their defense (sans Pearson) when I saw them live.
  2. Really? Have you watched Pineda pitch? Does he seem like the kind of guy that is going to be able to get up in the middle of a game and get himself ready in short order? Pineda looks like he needs all the pre-game long toss and bullpen warm-up time he can get. Graterol as a weapon in the bullpen down the stretch this season could make some sense though, and there is plenty of precedent for it around the league.
  3. But, but, but you said that Hildenberger had become a proven commodity .
  4. This is a completely uninformed take. It isn't just the Angels that have his number. You forgot the Yankees, Astros and Tigers. It isn't a kneejerk reaction either. His last 41 innings of hot garbage is more than enough to justify a demotion. He was the worst player on the team and deserves to be gone.
  5. It's going to be a managerial balancing act for sure. Getting Sano enough PAs to allow him to show he can realize his potential (or not) and keeping what's been a very good defense most games in tact will be tough. Marwin's versatility makes it easy in theory ( just give everyone a day off each week), but his defensive value at the hot corner and the drop-off that's realized at other positions doesn't make it cut and dried. Great problem to have provided Sano is producing after a few games of getting back into seeing MLB pitching and the routine of the MLB game.
  6. Yep, and according to some they don't even have Babe Ruth at catcher and Rod Carew at shortstop. AJ Hinch is a genius!!!
  7. :confused What about .335 BAA 1.8 HR/9 8.19 ERA 4.98 FIP since the middle of last season is good?
  8. If Madison Bumgarner is what it takes to get the Twins deep into the playoffs, I could honestly care less if one of Graterol, Kirrilloff or Lewis never plays for the Twins. I think fan bases tend to overvalue and overproject their own prospects and players. I get excited about prospect potential myself and love following the MiLB daily. However, I would get much more excited if there was a real possibility of World Series games being played at Target Field. I would personally want to see Bumgarner pitch for a couple more months before doing anything. It's fun watching how well Perez and Odorizzi are pitching right now, but it's way too early to pencil them is as playoff load-bearers at this point. Also, neither one of them has ever cut open a rattlesnake, rescued digesting rabbits and nursed them back to health.
  9. Yes to Bumgarner, Giles or Smith. I'd thrown in Diekman and Greene as well. No to Stroman and Minor. No to Kimbrel, unless he allows the team to use him however they see fit.
  10. Right now, I would say La Tortuga. He gets the loudest cheers at the games. It really worked out that his DLIL stint took place on a road trip for the most part. It should be Polanco, but Berrios or Eddie could pass him if either signs extensions.
  11. Polanco now leading the league in AVG, Total Bases, Offensive WAR, and Situational WPA ... Be sure to stuff those ballot boxes, so we can get him in there for All-Star Election Day! It will be tough going against Mondesi, Bogaerts, Correa, and Lindor.
  12. If the Twins continue to get these types of starts four out of five days, this division won't even be a contest. Who would have thought that it would be Minnesota, and not Cleveland, producing these starts. Speaking of Cleveland, Kluber and Clevinger are out, and now poor Trevor Bauer can't handle being trolled (open season on his timeline the night before his next start?). Can't wait for Odorizzi to get on the bump this Friday!
  13. You can bid on them at the game on May 25th in Cedar Rapids. The Snoopy ones were going for about $125 on Friday.
  14. I attended the Kernels game once again, so I'll add a few observations. Tyler Palm had a really good evening. He was perfect until Gabe Snyder couldn't handle a simple toss on a bunt attempt that resulted in a little league triple. That runner scored on a sac fly on a beautiful running catch by Pearson in left field. Not sure why Dinkleman pulled him at 4.2 ... It had to be a low pitch count leash or bullpen work schedule related I also got to be reminded that players aren't the only ones learning at this level. The umpire made an interference call against Dayton that resulted in the Dragons' manager being allowed to argue for literally 20-25 minutes. The umpire even left the field for 5 minutes. I'm not sure if it was to read the rule book, review film, cry or take a Xanax. Anyway that umpire needs to learn to take control of his field. Ridiculous. Finally, I had a chance to chat with David Banuelos' father during the game. He was getting a little frustrated with some of the fans in front of us that were trying to get David to throw balls into the stands when he was warming up the relief pitchers. One fan even tried to offer up his single lady friend. That was awkward, since David's wife and infant son we're also there in the stands. David handled it all very professionally, but that has to be frustrating for a parent. I also got to learn that it was much easier for their family when he was in the Seattle org, but they are really grateful for any opportunity he gets.
  15. Enlow saved my trip to CR from being a complete disappointment (coming down here after Balazovic gets promoted and before Javier shows up). He was consistently sitting at 94-95 with the fastball and dropping hooks that made some hitters look silly. The defense behind him was even worse than the four errors in the box score. It was a treat to watch him but not the rest of the game. Celestino must still be in the top prospects list to make everyone feel better about getting fleeced in the Pressly trade. He's just filler in a string of automatic outs after Chris Williams in the lineup. I hope they turn things around, because this looks like a cellar-dweller team at the moment.
  16. That happened!! Our Twins get to spend at least one morning all alone at the top of MLB!
  17. That's a pretty looking bullpen chart heading into the Bronx. Everyone should be available to get outs when needed.
  18. Guess who else just plain stinks: The Angels sans Trout. We get them six times in May. I expect the offensive fireworks to continue.
  19. This is really disheartening news. Ober seems like a real talent, but he just doesn't seem to have the body to withstand the stress of pitching.
  20. Yes, the rotation has been a nice surprise so far. Gibson needs to be given some rope coming off that infection, but it looks like he's getting back to 2018 Gibby. I'm looking forward to his start in New York. He pitched really well there last year and didn't seem starstruck by the whole Yankee atmosphere. It all got lost when Rodney got Sanchez'd. Odorizzi has been putting his money where his mouth is stating that he felt the stuff has been there (except for that Philly game that was probably played in a storm that has a name these days). Now the results are there as well. I hope he keeps it going and pitches at a pace like he did against Houston. It's easier to appreciate some of his slower moments on the mound when you can tell he's calculating and in the zone vs. questioning and trying to figure out why stuff isn't working. The FO may have unearthed something in Perez. I really hope so. It was a meh depth signing for me at the time. I didn't have a problem with the signing, but at the price I just felt like he was a dart to be thrown along with Mejia and Stewart for that 5th spot. Now the negative, Pineda ..... He look good early in the season, but now he really seems to be struggling .... It doesn't seem like he's going to last the whole season .... Almost painful to watch at times, like he needs a chiropractic mound visit or something .... I don't know, maybe give him an opener for a few starts. I hope he can turn it around, but he definitely seem like SP5 in this rotation ATM. Glad the Twins have that option on Perez .... Not sure if Gibson or Odorizzi will be worth QOs, but in today's FA world I would guess they would both sign them ... Otherwise, maybe the Twins pick up a competitive balance pick.
