  1. These types of situations always remind me of Moneyball. Beane was the toolsy 1st rounder and Dykstra was the wad-o-chew 13th rounder. They were both contemplating Steve Carlton and Lenny says, "I'll stick him." Not sure Helman is looking for any Kodiak endorsements, but maybe he can just "stick him".
  2. Assuming Javier gets a quick call to CR, looks like there are 6 reasons here to go watch Kernels baseball! Topping, Lewis, Kirilloff and Graterol all in the same game last year will be tough, but maybe Enlow, Javier and Celestino will give them a run.
  3. Do I actually have to root for the Yankees today? Sorry, can't do it .... Twins will still be a game up on Detroit, if they win.
  4. You lost me when Astudillo wasn't front and center of this entire recap. J/K ... Thanks for doing these.
  5. CF Max Kepler L SS J. Polanco B DH Nelson Cruz R LF E. Rosario L 3B W. Astudillo R RF Jake Cave L C Mitch Garver R 2B E. Adrianza B 1B Tyler Austin R
  6. When he came in to pinch hit for Castro, he may have received the loudest applause of any game event last night at the Tuesday Taproom at Able.
  7. I didn't. Watching Yost heat up on all three close calls was entertaining.
  8. He did play 163 games with 640 PAs and 1260 innings on defense last season spread across the Twins, Rochester and Venezuela. I'm not too worried about him handling the grind. He's a pro. He just doesn't look like one until you see him play. He made 11 errors in those innings. Sano made 10 in less than half (granted Sano logged all his innings in the infield at the MLB level).
  9. While I agree with the first part, I'm getting close to hoping for Baldelli's next "mistake". I don't think anyone is going to let that one go until he makes another one. Kepler is 0/2 PA against LHP so far. There is only one sample size smaller than that. "Keep trotting" is a phrase I would save for something like the LoMo experience last year.
  10. Astudillo needs to get his next 100 PA in short order. If he comes close to repeating the production over the first 100 PAs, then, I'm sorry, but Castro, Garver, Gonzalez and Sano should take a back seat to Astudillo being in the lineup every day. If it all falls apart, then you still have those four to fill two positions each day. Right now, even Vlad the Impaler and Dr. Smooth would be blushing as they witness the bat-to-ball skill.
  11. Nice, the Twins will miss Nola. Philly is off to a hot start, so I'm thinking breaks like that will be welcome.
  12. Great game ... Love that Two Gingers bar on the 200 level for days like today! Looks like everyone but Gibson (for good reason) has received game action now. On to KC to hopefully take sole possession of the early AL Central driver's seat!
  13. For some perspective, here are the records of all the teams that by consensus are expected to finish ahead of the Twins' Red Sox 1-2 Yankees 1-1 Rays 2-1 Indians 1-1 Astros 1-2 Athletics 2-3 Looks like the sky is falling over the better part of the country, I better go kick Uncle Bob out of the fallout shelter and get it cleaned up and stocked.
  14. Cimber was drawing the boo-birds big time (Really the only time they cam out all game). It wasn't just the throw overs either. He stepped off two or three times as well.
  15. I was feeling the same way. I think Jake Bauers is a bit of a sleeper for the the Tribe, but otherwise it seemed like AAAA, downtrending vets and defensive specialists surrounding J Ramirez.
  16. Great article! Made me laugh! Some kind of article like this should be written about the new "Boomstick". That is an irresponsible amount of food for one human being to say the least. We had four people chowing on one for the better part of the game. I skipped supper last night and breakfast this morning. Still not hungry.
  17. A great way to pass Cleveland will be to kick them while they're down this weekend. Be patient with Kluber. Don't want him to go eight innings today. Throw low and inside to Ramirez, if he plays, and keep him off balance with that knee. Santana will make you battle, but don't give in. The rest of their lineup is pretty uninspiring.
  18. If Navarreto could add 70 to 80 points to his OPS from last year, I could see a situation where he is a dark horse for a call up. That's a tall order just to be a dark horse though.
  19. In theory, Berrios could pitch in every series except @ the Mets and still come home and start the first game of the second home stand. Gibson could be used sparingly or even stacked with Odorizzi or Pineda in a situation until he gets back to full strength.
  20. He signed late. He had an ailment that held him out even longer. He can't even put the bat on the ball 46% of the time right now. He'll probably be fine later, but that isn't who I would choose to start and bat 5th on Thursday.
