Article: 10 Relievers Minnesota Could Target

So? don't try to win the world series because a prospect might come back to haunt us? I disagree with that. But I can agree with Smith/Bumgarner. -

IMO, that would be a pretty cheap trade and I would do it in a heartbeat. -
IMO, There are just some days were Gibson gets into trouble with pitch count and can't seem to shake it during that game. If Gibson throws 20+ pitches in the 1st it seems he pretty much does that every inning, and the other days if he has a lower pitch count he can sustain that. No numbers to back this up, but I told my son yesterday this is going to be a short start for Gibby because he is will probably end of throwing 20 pitches every inning. Which is kind of weird since he is the best pitcher (I think 2nd best actually) at throwing first pitch strikes. You would think teams would be going up looking to hit that first pitch, but the days they don't he seems to nibble too much.

Luck or no luck doesn't mean a thing when comparing stats that have already happened. Stats like that are only good at projecting what will happen going forward. IMO -

Article: TB 14, MIN 3: Well … That Just Happened
Tomj14 replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In defense of Perez in the 3rd the walks to Garcia and Pham were a tough strike zone. 5 of the 8 balls could have went for strikes based on the ESPN gamecast strike box (or whatever it is called) and watching it on TV. I will give Rocco credit for only using three pitchers in this game, how many times have we been blowing out a team and they run through relief pitchers. -
What a year, we can complain about the Twins 5th starter who has went at least 5 innings in 9 of his 10 starts (not going to include his 1 start) In May made 5 starts, pitched 30 (5 BB/28 K) innings with a 4.50 ERA

If they are only going to let Brusdar Graterol pitch around 75 pitches in AA, how is he ever going to be a major league starter, since most are 75 in the 5th? If they are worried about about his health, why not bring him up to the majors and let him pitch out of the pen?

Article: MIN 9, TOR 1: Twins Steamroll Toronto
Tomj14 replied to AJ Condon's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree on the starter rant. Somebody said if the game was closer or we had used more relief pitchers recently Gibson would have went out for the 7th. To me we are asking our starters to give us between 80 - 90 pitches. So my logic says when they send them out there after that they are not going to be as good because they haven't been given the chance. Plus at the end of the year when the decision to sign Gibson comes up, the could look at innings pitched and say we can't give that much money to a pitcher that averages X innings or pitched Y innings, or ERA is Z when he might not have been given a chance to increase/decrease those numbers.- 52 replies

As far as the trading deadline, I think it should have been pushed back a week or two. In my fantasy baseball and football league we have played with moving the trade deadline. And what we have found is if it is too early there are very little trades because nobody want to give up too soon and it if is too late there are a ton of trades and the top teams just stack up. There is some sweet spot and I think MLB needs to find that.

Article: Twins 2019 Position Analysis: Left Field
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree on the extension because it makes him easier to trade. Isn't the new way in MLB to have a continuous stream of prospects so you don't have to ever give the "big" deal to anybody? Isn't that the reason you don't go after a Manny or Bryce? (not just saying the Twins by any team?) We all dream that any Twins prospect turns into one of them and we learned if they ever do they won't sign them, so the dreams have turned into I hope he is really, really good just not one of the best in the game.- 19 replies

Article: Twins 2019 Position Analysis: Shortstop

Were not really talking about moving possibly the best defensive center fielder (age 25) in the game to left field for a guy that hasn't played above A+ and is currently a short stop? I do like that infield you mentioned,- 43 replies

Article: Twins 2019 Position Analysis: Second Base
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hunter started 135 games for the Twins when he was 23. He wasn't very good until his age 25 season. (he did play 1 game at age 21 and 6 at age 22) Lets hope Gordon is just a year behind Hunter and then has the same type of career. Gordon has had a much better minor league career than Hunter.- 27 replies

Article: Twins Daily 2019 Top Prospects: #1 Royce Lewis
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really, really hope you are right, but as a fan of all Minnesota sports I have been living off of hope for years and all it has gotten me is the Vikings ripping out my heart and the Twins saying just wait for the next group of prospects to lead us to the promise land. I do really like they have been stock piling high upside guys improving the odds of guys making it. (which is better than drafting relief pitchers)- 41 replies

Article: Twins Daily 2019 Top Prospects: #1 Royce Lewis
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Couldn't you say the same thing in 2013, when the prospects list was Sano, Hicks, Arcia, Buxton, Gibson, Meyer, Rosario, May, Kepler, Polanco and others? and yet they haven't been one of the best teams in baseball year after year, let alone if one year. I love me prospects, but that is all they are until they fail or make it, there is no guarantee of anything. (Well except most will fail to live up to expecations)- 41 replies

Tor- Vlad and Bo Hou - Whitley and Tucker SD - Tatis and Gore Cin - Senzel and Trammell CHW - Kopech and Jimenez I would agree with you besides Toronto, I don't think I would trade the Twins top 2 for any of the other. San Diego has a ton of prospects, which explains why they might be meeting with Manny again, don't sleep on the Braves they have a bunch as well.- 41 replies

Article: Starter Or Reliever, That Is The Romero Question
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Aren't the Twins in a win-now mode, right now? They signed Cruz, didn't trade Gibson or anybody else yet. Seems like they are trying to win now. Every team should be in a win now mode until they forced not to be.- 53 replies

Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see no reason to have him the minors, I like the idea of the Johan, Liriano, Sale type of role at first, he either is so good they can't keep him out of the rotation, or he settles in nicely as a relief pitcher.- 53 replies

Not trying to be argumentative, but Kirilloff was dropped in the rankings last year (3rd to 5th), so I agree with others above this ranking seems to have more "hope" attached to it than some of the others. Javier has continued to move up the rankings the last few years all while playing a total of 50 games (none above Rookie ball) in the last three seasons. With that said, I tend to agree with you that there is a good chance that he is a top 50 prospect at this time next year if his 50 games played transfer over this year. But I don't see how that justifies this years ranking. It might explain the in-ability for the Twins FO to make trades for established major league players, because outside of the top 3 prospects there doesn't seem to be any real for sure major league starters.

Article: Twins Daily 2019 Top Prospects: #7 Jhoan Duran
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So I was replying to the following: "Problem is that not so long ago Gonsalves was thought of as a for sure #3 and possibly a #2." Not sure when #3 and possibly #2 is considered front end guy? My only real point is there is no way a prospect should ever be rated as a teams third overall prospect or a top 100 list if his ceiling is a 4 or 5 starter.- 47 replies
