  1. Sure they could miss the playoffs, their 10 game lead is down to 2 in about month, so their lead on the wild card could shrink just as easily. I am not saving this current rookie reliever group is going to save the bullpen, but with the consistent short starts from the starters, it does seem like a much better idea to have some pitchers that can throw 2, 3, 4 inning, instead of trying to piece the bullpen together everyday for 3,4,5 innings.
  2. that is what I was trying to say yesterday (you did a much better job) and people were basically calling me crazy for saying they should have done something a month ago.
  3. Buxton is 25 and Hicks in 29, does that play into this at all? lets not forget Hicks posted a negative WAR the first year with the Yanks and 88 games the second (which was a darn good 88 games) , the Twins fans would have been howling to get rid of him before, during and after 2016.
  4. 83 starts at catcher compared to 46 doesn't count for anything?
  5. Maybe, maybe not, so far it has worked out pretty well that they didn't trade for him. Yes Garver when he has played has been better than JT, but JT has played in 94 really well and Mitch only 52 great. which has forced Castro and the Turtle into all the other games. but we are going to have to agree to disagree which isn't a bad thing.
  6. Or since this front office loves position flexibility they keep Garver because he has played OF and 1B and Castro hasn't, but of course we will never know.
  7. Rotation?, One at DH?, maybe they don't sign Cruz and spend the money elsewhere like bullpen? But I get it, hope is more important than trying to get results. I just disagree with that.
  8. Per Baseball Reference Realmuto WAR 2.5, Garver 3.0, Castro .6, Astudillo -.1 My math says Realmuto and Garver better than Garver, Castro and Turtle
  9. not saying the Twins should have traded for him, I am saying there were players out that that could be traded for.
  10. and yet the Red Sox traded for Cashner on July 13th for two guys I can't seem to find in their top 30 prospects (I could be looking in the wrong spot though)
  11. Yes, I was talking about Will Smith, prior to the Giants going crazy the last 20 games just to get to .500.
  12. Yes, In June they should went after a guy(s) like that help, but now what they need is relief pitchers that can be trusted late.
  13. You could be right, but I am pretty sure for the right prospects the Baltimore and Miami were ready to trade at that time, and Smith's name as been floated since then, it would have just meant overpaying (since you would be getting the player for a month longer) Plus with all the teams still fighting, I don't believe it is going to be any less expensive for the higher end guys now than it was then. Sure the middle guys might get cheaper, but there is a reason for that, they are closer to May than Rodgers.
  14. Hasn't Houston traded about a 10 of their higher end prospects the last few years? Verlander, Cole, Pressley, Liriano, McCann
  15. The Twins could have went out and got Sergio Romo, Caleb Smith, Mychal Givens, Andrew Cashner, Seth Luog, Lirano or somebody in that range weeks ago for mid level prospects and seen how they would do and kept looking for more top end guys. Instead it could be they waited too long and that is the only type of guy(s) they get at the deadline.
  16. True, Franklin Perez got to as high as 41 by mlb.com/prospects, so not as high as those two but above every other prospect. My point is if you want talent it comes at a cost. And not upgrading a mediocre bullpen comes with a cost. I am willing to pay the cost it requires to upgrade the bullpen (Not Royce or Alex) but just about anybody else.
  17. The Astros sent right-hander Franklin Perez (No. 3 Astros prospect, per MLBPipeline.com), outfielder Daz Cameron (No. 9) and catcher Jake Rogers (No. 11) to the Tigers
  18. The cost of winning sometimes isn't cheap, losing usually is, and being 20+ games over .500 in June doesn't happen very often (in MN). Agreed one reliever isn't worth 4 wins ( I said 3) but setting up the bullpen to better fit your guys might be worth 3. I can't imagine the Giants turning down an offer like Graterol, Duran, Javier.
  19. Agreed and you get that pitcher for an extra month, and a lead might drop from a dozen to three, it might only have dropped to 5,6,7 and everybody would be feeling better know about a 6 game lead, then a 4 game lead over the final playoff spot.
  20. Any one of the pitchers that have been talked about on this site for over a month ( a few are below but many, many more have been talked about.) and IMO the Twins should have overpaid if that was required. (yes, I understand some were very far fetched at the time and now) Will Smith, LHP, Giants Liam Hendriks, RHP, Athletics Ty Buttrey, RHP, Angels Ken Giles, RHP, Blue Jays Sam Dyson, RHP, Giants Brad Hand, LHP, Indians Oliver Perez, LHP Cleveland Robert Stephenson, RHP, Reds John Gant, RHP, Cardinals Alex Colome, RHP, White Sox Seth Lugo, RHP, Mets Greg Holland, RHP, Diamondbacks Sean Doolittle, LHP, Nationals Kirby Yates, RHP, Padres
  21. I don't anybody offers more than Larnach, Duran, that would seem like a pretty good haul for him, and I bet they would take it in a heart beat and this FO wouldn't do it. IMO
  22. and that is completely on the Front Office, not the hitters, not the starters, and not other relief pitchers (they are who they are and only one of them is a big time back end relief pitcher). THE FRONT OFFICE!!
  23. Everybody seen this bullpen had been pitching over its head all year (or not very good in some cases) and that is why they should have went out and tried to get help in June. In June it could have been older mid tier guys looking to catch fire, and if they weren't good it wouldn't have cost much and they could have gotten ridden of them. But know it is damn near August and they don't have the luxury they must go out and get high priced back end guys. They are 3 games up on the Division but only 4 or 5 from being out of the playoffs. Good Luck getting fans next year if they piss away this opportunity, because they are selling everybody on 2021.
