  1. Last comment(s) because I have to go for the day, have a good weekend. The Twins tried buying that last year with Ordo and Lynn and didn't get it, and may other teams did as well (the Cubs for example) the Twins have tried that they last two years with Rookies and haven't gotten it either, so I don't think it is that simple to just pick up a top end #3 starter. But I am hoping and praying Thorpe turn out close to as good as Gibson for his and the Twins (fans) sake next year and in the future.
  2. To me he seems a lot like Eric Davis, when he played 130 plus games he was an All Star and MVP candidate, but there just wasn't enough of those seasons. Hope Byron's career ends up better on average than Davis.
  3. For pitchers with more than 60 innings in the American League Per FanGraphs 25th in innings pitched 23rd in K/9 25th in BB/9 24th in HR/9 37th in BABIP 25th in ERA 22nd in FIP 10th in xFip 18th in WAR Which puts him at the very bottom of a number two starter and the top of the number 3 starters. You are expecting Thorpe to put up these numbers next year, and can't do it in AAA this year? If Thorpe was expected to do this next year in the majors every since person that does a prospect list would have him in the top 50 prospects in all of baseball and probably 3rd in the Twins? On top of it took Berrios close to three years to do it? As much as Gibson drives me nuts quite a bit of the time, in 2019 he is a pretty good starting pitcher and way undervalued by Twins fans (including me)
  4. I agree it is gross for the owners to do it for that reason. Until they can convince the younger pitchers it is in their best interest (statistically and financially) there will not a buy in from the pitchers and teams willing to spend the money or willing to give the starters a chance to pitch more inning will end up with all the best "starting" and thus forcing the league to go back to traditional starters. The teams trying things like this are (seems like) doing it with younger starting pitchers that aren't considered top end prospects or prospects that aren't living up to.
  5. Wait, you are expecting Thorpe next year to pitch as well as Gibson this year? If other front offices believe that they Twins could trade him straight up for just about any pitcher outside of Thor today. It seems very unrealistic that guy that has pitched in 1 major league game could do that next year. (I really, really hope he does and it is on the Twins, but in no way am I expecting anything near that from him next year, maybe not even pitching in the majors next year) To me this is pie in the sky expectation, very similar to the talk about May becoming a starter for the Twins this year.
  6. If the Twins get a starter who goes to the pen? are any of the 4 going to be happy with that, with 3 being free agents at the end of the year? Odorizzi averages the least amount of innings per start but has the lowest ERA. Pineda has been pretty consistent giving them six decent innings (7 of 10) Perez hasn't been great but is the only lefty right now (only non FA to be) Gibson has been hot and cold but does have the 3rd best ERA Maybe Minor is that guy, but he throws a ton of pitches, are the Twins going to let him consistently pitch more than 100 pitches? The only game he has thrown less than 90 pitches was his first game, and 15 of his 19 have been 98 pitches or more.
  7. I think the internal help, would be to pitch the 5th and 6th innings (replacing Magil), they need external help to pitch the 7th, 8th and 9th innings, because Rogers can't do that every game. And if they get that external help it pushes Parker, Harper and May to be the 6th possibly 7th inning guys.
  8. Legit Set up guy with a 3.79, or if the control improves? He is a 6th inning guy until he improves, sure he can pitch later in the game and will do good some of time, but not a guy I trust in a game the Twins need. On this relief staff, he does look like a legit setup guy because they rest are terrible or not very good.
  9. I was hoping they pinched hit Arraez in the 4th for Sano
  10. The Twins get a great relief pitcher and swap out a guy on the 40, umm yes please.
  11. Harper has lower WHIP then May, higher WAR and has pitched more than May. It was a stretch to find another pitcher I trust in the 8th inning, so in reality Harper belongs in the 6 and 7 inning with May and Parker belongs in the 5th and 6th with the others. I am not as high on May as others, about every 4 - 5 games he gives up a run, which is why I don't like him pitching the 8th.
  12. agreed, here is how I look at it. (in close games) Who do I trust in the 8th and 9th inning - Rogers Who do I trust in the 7th and 8th inning - Harper Who do I trust in the 6th and 7th inning - May/Parker Who do I trust in the 5th and 6th inning - Duffey/Littell Which means Morin, Magill and everybody else needs to be replaced so there are more names in the 7th through 9th innings. IMO
  13. based on fan graphs board (link from Mike) https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2019-in-season-prospect-list?sort=-1,1&team=min The left hand side is Twins 1,3, 6 prospect The right hand side is 2, 11, 20 Which would mean by fan graphs ranking the two options are not close. the right hand side should have Javier (5) or Miranda (9) because he is also a second basemen like Arraez and Duran (7) instead of Balazovic and Gordon.
  14. What would he cost a top 30-40 prospect? If that is the case and if he has options, I would be willing to see what Johnson could do with him. again only if that goes with another trade for a top end guy.
  15. He is will be 27 in August. To clarify I meant better than Cole when Pit traded him. I agree "pretty reasonable chance you will be disappointed.", but I would add there is a larger chance we will be disappointed in the players that weren't traded.
  16. Why would the Mets sell low? controllable 26/27 year old pitcher with a career WAR of 12.7 (almost twice that of Berrios) not to mention throws in the upper 90's?
  17. I will add to the fact that some of the offers people are making are so ridiculously low it would be a slap in the face to the Mets. It would be like somebody calling the Twins and offering Graterol, Gonsalves, Gordon and Stewart for Berrios and telling the Twins they are getting an amazing deal.(you know because like 3 years ago these guys were top 5 team prospects)
  18. Thanks, I guess I was talking more in lines of their stuff, fastball, curve, etc..
  19. He is 26 and has been as good if not better than Cole. If people aren't willing to trade for him, there isn't anybody they would be willing to trade for.
  20. Tom/Seth/Anybody? How does Enlow compare to Stewart at the same time in their development? Thanks in advance
  21. Glad it isn't Gibson going, that last two times they asked him for extra innings, he crapped himself.
