  1. Nice try! I know you guys thought if you named it Port-land that you'd attract all the free agents with them thinking it's on some nice oceanside beaches, when it's actually 100 miles inland. What a scam!
  2. I really like this, Clippard has been one of my favorite underrated relievers I was hoping the Twins would sign each of the past two years. He's only ever had one bad season, I don't think relievers get much more reliable year-to-year.
  3. No, I would have liked Wheeler, or I'd take Ryu. Those 2.25 starter spots are not interchangeable. They need at least 1.0 of those spots for a front line arm. Wheeler was the only possible free agent pitcher I saw go off the board that could fill that spot. If this route is not possible or not going to happen, I don't want those 2.25 rotation spots filled with free agents that I don't like. Which is most of them. As for the guys who will fill the 1.25 spots at the back of the rotation, sure I'll have some opinions, but if they miss out on Tanner Roarke I could care less because view him any better than Gio Gonzalez, Homer Bailey, Drew Smyly, Tyson Ross or whomever will be sitting there begging for a job next month.
  4. Sure, but of those 18, Cole, Strasbugh and Wheeler were the only ones that I would have cared about. I think the reaction by the fans would have been exactly the same had the Twins signed Tanner Roarke or Kyle Gibson. It might have been worse actually.
  5. It's expected that the revenue sharing goes into payrolls, which is why Pittsburgh and Miami have drawn the ire of other clubs. But there should be a salary cap and a salary floor like every other sport with revenue sharing to balance the equation. Last I checked the YES Network features two baseball teams each game, though I doubt the Yankees revenue share cut from the broadcasts are 50%.
  6. Screw that. Just flood the coasts. Would anyone miss anything east of the Mississippi?
  7. Unless we were expecting to get the 240M+ players, have we missed out on anyone this free agency so far other than Wheeler and Bumgarner (who many of us didn't want anyway)? This free agent class looked great on paper, but it was front loaded with pipe dream players. I'm more interested in trades, I'll wait to make my judgment until I see those start coming into focus. Players can decide to make their bed anywhere they like as free agents, but we know when it comes to trades, the other team is just going to want the best return. Well probably not Cleveland, they'd likely not pick up our calls, but the other 28 teams.
  8. I know everyone likes Philly, Washington and Atlanta, but I think the Mets are the team to beat in the NL East. Top to bottom that team looks really good, I don’t think they’re selling.
  9. I like it, basically the Twins paid $500K for the option to get first dibs on him next year.
  10. It's just a swing and he's an elite athlete. He can change it if he wants to, and if that's what's needed to be a productive MLB player, I'm sure he will want to. After his 2018 season I can see why he wouldn't want to mess with what was working. But swing changes seem to be an off season adjustment, so I'd guess if Lewis and the team saw his 2019 decline as swing related, we'll see some changes this spring.
  11. Even when the Twins were losing 90-100 games they signed bigger free agents than Romo. Nolasco, Lynn, Santana, Reed, Pineda, Castro, Cruz/Gonsalaz/Schoop last year. This happens most years, the Twins don't sign guys until right around Christmas and no one's happy (me included). With Wheeler (and the pie-in-the-sky names) gone Ryu and Donaldson are the only two free agents I have more than a passing interest in, but there are a lot of guys aside from those two that are bigger "names" than Romo and I'm sure there will be some signed.
  12. Atlanta is far from one of my favorite cities, but lots of ballplayers are from the south. Even if they don't care for Atlanta, they can identify with it. And it seems most of them do care for Atlanta. It was a different era for sure, but the Twins were always able to bring back the local guys. Molitor, Winfield, Morris, Steinbach. It's really a separate discussion, but it sure wouldn't hurt to invest more in local HS and U of M baseball.
  13. Agree on all points. Kuechel needs a good infield defense, but if he has one he probably has a high floor though low ceiling. Biggest problem is he isn't a front line starter but will likely get paid like one, which would likely hinder the Twins from actually trading for one. Teheran - agreed, but I'm actually more concerned that his FB is down 2 MPH from just two years ago. Everyone is betting on upside with Teheran but I don't see much of a path to improvement for a guy with an 89 MPH fastball. Spot on with Thames - Because of his splits he might be a guy still sitting around in February, I might be interested then if there hasn't been any offensive additions. Now that I think about it, Thames with Sano/Garver spending time at 1B vs lefties doesn't sound like the worst thing. Not better than Donaldson or one of the Cubs corner bats though.
  14. Depressing article, but a good one. They got to start working on trades though, my biggest issue is that Falvey said they were concentrating on free agents first. Why unless they didn’t have a good read on these free agents and what they wanted? I agree that both of those variables are big issues for the Twins, I’m more troubled that the organization seems to prefer the status quo to rocking the boat. Like every other professional league MLB absolutely needs a salary cap and salary floor. All the small market Midwest teams should pushing for this.
  15. I’m not going to argue that the team should have signed Cole, but the team has the resources to spend $324M over 9 years, they can and they will spend 4x that amount. The debate would only be about whether it’s wise to commit 25% of their payroll (by the end of the deal should be 20%ish due to inflation). It’s probably not a great idea, but I think it’s fair for some posters to ask for a different strategy than the quantity over quality free agent approach we’ve always seen.
  16. Well I want some action, and if the rotation doesn't improve I'm not going to be happy, but I don't want to counter the Yankees adding a stud with 2nd level pitchers. This team has tried that most of the last decade.
  17. It seems like Dodger fans are even more angry than Twins fans. Well, anger per capita is probably equal, but there's way more Dodger fans, so their gross anger is certainly higher. I hope we beat them to the Bargaining stage though because I really want to start making some trades without the Dodgers bidding us up.
  18. Well I don't want MadBum at all, so does that mean I'm in the Bargaining or Acceptance stage?
  19. Why would they do this? They know the pizza guy will deliver right to the room right?
  20. My father spent some time in Korea for some educational cultural enrichment thing, I forget the details, but you can be sure I still got LG Twins cap! Not sure why it's pink though.
  21. I was kind of skeptical about that Fangraphs article detailing the Benintendi/Rodriguez pot sweetening angle, and I still am a bit, but thinking about it more, any team looking to deal with the Red Sox would really have them over the barrel. Next year Price will be a 10/5 guy with the Sox so he could veto any trade. If they want to get rid of him, it's basically now or never.
  22. For one you're only on the hook for three years with Price instead of 5 years for Bumgarner. Also, despite Price's warts, he's been better than Bumgarner each of the last three seasons. I also have significant concerns that Bumgarner will be able to even be league average in terms of strikeout percentage upon a move to the AL. Tom's piece the other day has me concerned it's going to drop much more significantly than other pitchers making the league switch.
  23. Yes, even though I still like the idea that Price still has a shot to lead the rotation, the potential of that second piece being a rotation upgrade is equally if not more exciting. Which, maybe you just cut out a step and take the underrated Eduardo Rodriguez instead. He was really good last year.
  24. Yes please. If it was Price and Benintendi, I might even consider keeping Rosario and then try to flip the cheaper, more controllable and bigger named Benintendi for an even bigger pitching prize.
  25. If somebody could explain why Caleb Smith strikes out so many batters when his stuff looks so bland and why Alcantara strikes out so few batters when his stuff looks so nasty that would be great.
