I'd also like to know why he lost 1.5 MPH on his velocity last year. I might still be interested though.

I hope the team isn't spending too much time focusing on pitching if the pitching either isn't a fit or isn't interested. As much as this team needs pitching, if the top two pitchers weren't an option and the next two pitchers may prefer to not come here, I don't want them to fruitlessly make a big show about it when there is still a 3B out there who may be interested. Also, I bet the Dodgers aren't actually interested in Bumgarner, they're a pretty analytically inclined front office and Bumgarner doesn't seem to be an analytically approved pitcher. I bet they're talking to him to try to get Ryu to come back at a discount. I made a joke about it last week, but now I'd like to see the Twins try to go and overpay for Blake Snell.

No idea what he wants but those no trade lists often consists of the teams he and his agent think will try to trade for him. Before the season even ended people were predicting he’d go to the Atlanta to be closer to home. Since they’re out, who knows?

He doesn’t throw an off speed pitch or even really a breaking pitch, just a four seamer and a splitter. I can’t see that ever having sustained success as a starter.

This story about him hacking a snake apart with an ax after it interrupted his cattle wrangling, which he started practicing because he was homesick for North Carolina makes me think it’s not us, it’s him. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2294745-sports-illustrated-story-reveals-absurd-details-about-madison-bumgarners-life.amp.html

If Bumgarner has to have his arm twisted to come here, pass. I was already on the fence about him, I’d prefer not to repeat the Ricky Nolasco, “I’d rather be elsewhere” fiasco. Ryu or bust for me. Also Rich Hill.

I'll take Mussolini on the mound over the namby-pamby high contact guy Crash was describing.

I'd like to know if Falvey specifically mentioned those names, or if Park mentioned these guys and Falvey agreed they were possibilities. I wonder because I don't like that Graterol isn't included in that list.

The left side of the Twins infield. If I'm paying good money, I want starting pitchers who can get outs all on their own. Which is why I'm starting to lean toward signing Rich Hill. Please everybody, don't kill me, I have a family!

I'm not really high on any of the pitchers available, I guess I like Ryu a bit more than Bumgarner, but getting either would just feel like more of a moral victory to me. I might like option #2 actually, as I do want starters who can miss bats and both Hill and Smyly have a history of doing so. Aside from having a big name, I don't know that I'd buy into much if any performance upgrade from Bumgarner over Hill, at least in 2020. Of course that bat-missing caveat would make me want to stay away from Kintzler, can we swap him out for Betances instead? Oh, burying the lede clearly, Donaldson sure would be fun!

I guess that would depend on if you were thinking of early 30’s Maddox who was still elite or late 30’s Maddox who no longer was. I kind of forgot Pavano got turned into a bit of a punchline at the end, I didn’t mean to use him as a dig though. Until his final year he was solidly useful, just not the kind of difference maker the team needed.

The Verlander factor is the only reason I’m even remotely interested in Bumgarner. But Verlander’s ability to maintain his velocity and strikeout percentage into his twilight years seems to be unique. Barring injury, Bumgarner probably isn’t likely to completely implode, but based on Tom’s piece, I’d think it’s more likely that Bumgarner resembles a Carl Pavano than a Justin Verlander. That’s still a useful pitcher, but not the kind that will advance a team further in the playoffs.

Hold on to this contact Van. I was honestly worried about getting Bumgarner to Minnesota because he strikes me as a Dukes of Hazard kind of guy. You might have a trump card here though. Any idea if his daughter's Daisy Dukes are store bought or hand crafted? -

Geez, how'd Wolfson get the Rangers, Astros, White Sox and Ken Rosenthal to all get in on this con? -

I've got a plan to make this start working in the Twins favor. Minnesota needs to start producing more baseball wives. How about Target Field hosts a singles mixer for the away players the first night of every series? -
I would really like Gausman, but only for the pen, he doesn't have any offspeed pitch. I don't like his FB/splitter combo but it could work in relief. I think if he went to the pen full time, going back to the slider instead of the splitter could make him lights out.
