  1. The decision to give Hardy away was a result of Gardy pushing it. Gardy wanted speed at the position. Before Hardy was even traded, Gardy said Casilla would compete for the starting shortstop job. True, Smith shouldn't have listened, but there is something to be said for a manager who will at least take into account his manager's wishes. Nishioka cost us very little, in baseball terms. The two decisions didn't really have to do with the other unless we connect Gardy wanting Casilla to play shortstop and us needing a 2B to replace Casilla.
  2. Hasn't Deron Johnson been the scouting director since like 2007?
  3. I agree the differences are huge. Not sure why anyone would compare the two. But one of the big differences pointed out in the original thread is that Nishioka was signed under Smith and the rights to Park were acquired by Ryan. What happens if this is a bust as well? Will Ryan receive all the vitrol Smith did/does for the Nishi signing (like saying he should have been fired for that very UNCOSTLY mistake) by the people who consistently defend Ryan (and part of the defense is by bringing up Smith all the time)? Ryan has made much more costly mistakes since he's been back. Anyway, here is hoping we sign him and he's not a bust.
  4. I hated it when the Twins drafted Plouffe and it took forever for him to make the show. It seemed like the only reason he did finally make it was because he was out of options and because he was a former 1st round pick (and even then it was between him and Luke Hughes). I think part of the problem was that the Twins didn't see the fact that shortstop wasn't going to work for him a long time ago. Since being moved to 3rd base he has worked very hard and has become a solid player offensively and defensively. Whether he stays here or not, I hope he continues to get better.
  5. Only for Minnesota would signing Nishioka be considered a high-profile move :-)
  6. I liked Torii for quite some time. I loved his catches and his energy. Even when he initially left, I defended him. I felt Ryan disrespected him by waiting too long to ever make him an offer (not until August before he became a FA) and that the offer (and subsequent offers) were too little based on the market. I liked how he and Santana (and to a lesser extent Nathan) came out and let everyone know what they thought of Ryan giving up on them at the deadline of '07. It wasn't until later in his career (not much later) that my opinion of Hunter changed. Obviously, I didn't think they should sign him for the past season(due to declining skills and overall player production) and am glad he has retired.
  7. Perhaps Morneau is just an adult and got over it a long time ago.
  8. Another thing about KC: They put emphasis on defense. Awesome defense helps the pitching staff and saves runs. They realize this is important to winning.
  9. Team must have bowed out when Gardy insisted on a job for Anderson and a roster spot on the 25 man for Punto :-) Do we know for sure Gardy was actually the runner up?
  10. I understand that losing Mr. Saunders was hard, but in what other way was it a tough week for Minnesota sports fans?
  11. I am glad you are so sure, considering how liberal that whole city is (like Portland and San Francisco). Three peas in a pod those cities are.
  12. Yeah, I doubt that's true. Seattle for one. Either way, it was a legitimate question.
  13. I'm saying back when these ideas were hugely popular, would 47% of MN agreeing with it make it okay? Did you know that until 1967, 16 states still had it on the books that inter-racial marriages were illegal? Alabama didn't take it officially off the books until 2000 and that over half a million voted against Alabama's repeal of the anti-miscegenation laws?
  14. I wonder what % of voters in MN back in the day agreed with people who thought segregation and slavery were a good idea too? Discrimination is discrimination.
  15. There was nothing wrong with Bernadino asked. He asked if Hunter thought his very public views may have affected his FA process. For example, would the Giants have even thought about getting him knowing the kind of backlash the fans might have given? It's a legitimate baseball question. And he used his celebrity to try and suppress the rights of a whole group of people. I have no such celebrity and if I did, I wouldn't use it to push a candidate that wants to discriminate against a whole group of people.
  16. Hunter came out and used his star power to endorse a candidate in part because the candidate was going to fight gay marriage. That wasn't a case of anyone asking Hunter his thoughts on a subject, that was him going out of his way to endorse a candidate that would attempt to suppress the rights of a whole group of people. So we can stop with the whole, 'if you don't want an answer don't ask the question' defense, because it hold zero water. People have a right to their opinion but when a person uses his influence to try and suppress the rights of people who don't agree with his point of view, that is something else. That isn't just having an opinion, it's actively trying to push his opinions onto others.
  17. Rios is a LOT younger. They likely bet on him bouncing back. They reportedly had a bid 2M less than what Hunter signed for. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/04/13/twinsights-how-close-did-royals-come-to-landing-torii-hunter/
  18. yeah, almost solely was an interesting thing to say. I'm sure, along with the things you mentioned, there was the 10.5M he was given. Doubt KC offered that.
  19. if you want to believe that means it wasn't child abuse, go for it.
  20. apparently murder is the line, child abuse isn't :-)
  21. Mike already said this to you like an hour ago 'Isn't that what I said? I still rooted for him to do well on the Twins.....doesn't mean I have to like his opinions or him. I looked beyond them while he was on the field.' Obviously, he was rooting for Hunter and doesn't seem close to stopping the cheering for a player because he said something he didn't agree with.
  22. There's a lot of things allowed and not allowed in the bible that I imagine people would have real issues with today :-)
