  1. With Ryan at the helm, I have always gotten the feeling that the team is built in order to try to be competitive for the division. To his credit, in the 2000s he accomplished that. I have never seen him really go for it at the deadline and I've never seen him even try to build a team in the offseason where the goal was to crush the division and make a roster built to really do damage in the playoffs. Probably why we've only been to one ALCS under him. And I HIGHLY doubt any of that ever changes with him at the helm.
  2. I WISH the pitching market in today's game would get you a #3 starter for 2 yr/16M. Pelfrey going to the Tigers is a 'blessing' for Twins fans (if you believe in blessings).
  3. Except you used the 2015 Blue Jays and 2001 Mariners as examples of failure. And the reason they were failures, you said, was because they didn't win the world series. And you talked about the 29 GMs who fail every year. So, yeah, you did say throughout a few posts that if the GM/Team doesn't win the W Series, they failed.
  4. The idea that May is even in the competition for a spot in the rotation is just PR talk. They moved him to the bullpen last year in favor of some inferior SPs. They have done nothing to improve the bullpen. The rotation he got bumped out of is mostly the same (minus Pelfrey, that's it). He's now a bullpen guy. That's it.
  5. Couldn't agree more with this post. And I'd add Hughes as the same kind of example as Suzuki.
  6. If we are going to blame his hitting woes on workload and wearing down, why has he hit better in his career in the 2nd half than the 1st half?
  7. Since they decided to bet on a guy whose great BABIP helped fuel his .730ish or so OPS in SSS, let's just start his starting catcher era now and let Suzuki start about 45 games.
  8. I read that when it was written and expressed my doubts numerous times concerning both Suzuki and on another article you write about Hughes. Pointing to an article you wrote before as proof of your opinion now is interesting though.
  9. Pelfrey had a better FIP, xFIP, K/9, BB/9 in the 2nd half last year than he did in the 1st half. The difference might have been the huge jump in BABIP.
  10. Not sure we should be counting of the same amount of wins getting us near a W Card. Probably should also remember that this team, while winning 83 games last year, wasn't really a team with the talent/performance to win 83 games. They outplayed their BaseRuns by over 10 games and their Pythag by 2. Advantageous sequencing which I loved but wouldn't expect to repeat. So far, they haven't improved the rotation or the bullpen and perhaps not even the lineup/defense.
  11. along with attempting to put together a 'just good enough' offense, 'just good enough' defense, and 'just good enough' rotation. Just got to ask ourselves, good enough for what, exactly?
  12. If those strikeouts become outs of another sort, it doesn't much matter. Considering he had a BABIP in the .330s and still couldn't score an OBP in the .300s, we could see a bigger dropoff in his OBP if/when his BABIP normalizes.
  13. I like Rosario, but I'm not sure how Rosario set his offensive bar high last year in the majors. When you have an OBP under .290, that's hardly a high bar.
  14. When I retire, I wil have Military retirement (already have). Federal employee retirement (Working towards) and if social security is still around, that too. I dabble with a 401k (it will do whatever it does) and I will have a quality nest egg in savings when I retire. I don't want to just count on one thing. I want multiple sources of income.
  15. I think one reason WAR doesn't put catchers high up there with position players is because catchers don't play as much as other position players and it's a cumulative stat.
  16. The HOF technically has the final say, but the Hall consults with the players and take into account, heavily, the players wishes. 'The cap decisions were announced after consultation with the Hall, which has the final say.' "I think I did most of my damage as a Mariner," Griffey said. "Want to be the first in a lot of things, and to be able to wear a Mariners hat and to go into the Hall of Fame as a Mariner, that's also one of the decisions I needed to make.' 'Piazza spoke Wednesday night about his choice with former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, whose recommendation led to the team drafting him. "Unfortunately we do have to choose one," Piazza said. "For me, I always sort of enjoyed reconnecting here in New York." I've never heard of the Hall picking against the players' wishes. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14524076/ken-griffey-jr-wear-seattle-mariners-cap-mike-piazza-gets-new-york-mets-hall-fame-induction
  17. The person who started this thread said Hunter has a better resume than Edmonds. He said it in the original post
  18. I am pretty sure I read an article about Piazza choosing to go in as a Met and another about Griffey choosing to go in as a Mariner. in fact, Piaza talked to Lasorda about it before picking the Mets cap. I believe they do have a choice.
  19. I am having a hard time seeing where Hunter has a Better resume for the HOF than Edmonds, who fell off the ballot 1st time due to the 10 player vote max. Edmonds has the better stat slash line, a better wRC+, and roughly 25 more WAR. And he was a top notch defender as was Hunter. where is the argument Hunter has a better HOF case than Edmonds?
  20. Hahaha! It's weird that the people at B-R would use his 9th grade height and weight on his official B-R page
  21. That's a nice theory, but being a professional baseball player is pretty much a full time job. IMO, getting into/staying in shape should be a priority for professional athletes. For a guy who was almost 270 LBs at the end of last season, and is now supposedly moving to the OF, it's not out of line to wonder how his offseason is progressing.
