  1. Wasn’t a fan of this one. Escobar went in the fire sale of 2018, when many players were traded. The Twins were 7 games back but I would have liked to see how the pennant race played out. The Twins were sellers the season before, as well, and then rallied. It will be fun when Duran makes his debut, even if the lustre and glow of being a starting pitcher is starting to wear off.
  2. Instead of asking starters to go 7 innings every five days, teams today seem happy to get 5 innings every six or seven days. At least in Twins world that seems to be expectation. The results here in Minnesota speak for themselves.
  3. This is an important question. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the Twins look like they are willing participants in the movement to downgrade the value of starting pitching. This necessarily means that relief pitching must become more important. Which starts to cast doubt on (for me, anyway) on the trade they made for starting pitching last February. And yeah I would have liked to seen all the Twins starters pitch at least one more inning in their postseason starts, 2019 included. /rant
  4. Jeffers was a very nice surprise. I wouldn’t get too down on Garver. Garver did look bad at times this year, but I’ll bet he’s the type of player who really benefits from a full spring training to work on his skills and swings. Next year he’ll have that again.
  5. I hit sixth in the lineup back in a T-Ball tournament once. Anyway, I came up in the first inning of the first game with the bases loaded and two out, and struck out. Then same thing happened in the second game. No runs either time. Felt like the worst person in the world. So anyway, my opinion has always been to have a contact hitter who knows the strike zone in the six spot. Definitely not a Miggy if possible—he’s either a 3-4 hitter or a 7-8 hitter. Then maybe Lamont Wade instead of Alex Kirilloff would have had a better result there. We’ll never know.
  6. I figured this was the best scenario myself; unfortunately it did not turn out.
  7. Wasn’t Keoni Cavaco available today to play shortstop? (haha just kidding, I wanted to say that ever since I saw Jeffers and Kirilloff in the starting lineup)
  8. Speaking of groundskeeping... Here is the link to Reusse: https://m.startribune.com/reusse-twins-game-1-bullpen-usage-leaves-much-to-be-desired/572581712/ This passage also jumped out: The Twins had a total of two hits at that point. Franmal Valdez, a lefty and considered by some to be the Astros’ second-best starter, had entered for Greinke in the fifth. Valdez started with a pair of walks, asked for the mound to be repaired in his landing area, and then blew through Byron Buxton, Max Kepler and Cruz. Someone from the Twins org fixed the mound for the opponent? What th—? This morning was the first I heard of this. The first thing that came to mind was the New England snowplow game, but wasn’t that to help the home team?
  9. Why stop there? we could do better with better front officing, ownershipping, fanning, vendoring, groundskeepering,...
  10. Reusse argued that May should have gone another inning, given five innings seems to be the absolute upper limit a starting pitcher can be expected to pitch. (Ok I added some of that.) Reusse also argues that the Twins need to improve in three areas before the second game: hitting, fielding, and pitching
  11. I think you are making my point? Rocco, or maybe it’s the front office, is clearly erring on the side of removing starting pitchers early from these postseason games. They lost the benefit of the doubt with me last year removing Berrios after four innings on the night before a scheduled bullpen game. And same as last year, I think the organization is overrating this bullpen. Sounds like Maeda pitched great today—tight strike zone too I guess—and the bullpen did fine after him (until the 9th). The decision to remove him largely worked out, but the trade off is it’s one more inning the bullpen doesn’t have for the next two games.
  12. Not to excuse Polanco, but I noticed that Arraez was actually playing up the middle and coming at the bag from an odd angle. But anyway. Any word on Maeda's condition? Five whole innings? He must be gassed—that's a Falvey era record for starting pitchers Also, Buxton batting second.. no. Someone should have brought up how badly Buxton fared when Molitor batted him third that year. His place is at the bottom somewhere. Anyway enough of the snark. Get em tomorrow. What other choice is there. I will bang my head against the wall all night tonight but expect a different result tomorrow.
  13. Another story I heard was Gardy also wanted to send in a pinch hitter to face Rivera, but the possible pinch hitters Gardy wanted to use were not exactly making themselves seen at the bat rack champing at the bit. (I wish I had known that at the time.) Anyway, welcome to the bigs Alex!
  14. Thanks for the update Seth! I’m a little worried about Kirilloff actually making an appearance, but Mondesi made his MLB debut for K.C. during the World Series so I like the creative thinking.
  15. Always love seeing people preach the Brad Radke gospel.
  16. I will add 4 more things to worry about: Garver, Avila, Astudillo, Jeffers I’m not worried long-term, but we need one of those guys to tighten up their game before the first series.
  17. I hear you, but Berrios has more playoff experience than Pineda and I think Berrios was removed far too soon from Game 1 last October. Pass on Dobnak and don’t forget about Hill and Odo.
  18. I think Cave is fine as a replacement, but no not a starter, Wade looks clearly better. Same with the Turtle as a replacement. Astudillo has at least one more optionyear I’m guessing so very good to have around. I’d be interested in knowing how the interrupted sprig training preparation has affected catchers. Garver looks like he needed a full spring training to work and get in a rhythm. Maybe the same with Astudillo.
  19. I didn’t understand the voluntarily pinch running for Rooker in the fifth, when you’ve already got a lineup of big plodding guys and some other guys dinged up, in a close game when you might want a pinch runner later. But, it worked out. That last play! Interesting thoughts on Rosario being at second and then running past the shortstop at just the right moment. Shortstop did nothing wrong and Rosario didn’t really interfere. As someone else said elsewhere, if the shortstop had been hyper aware and thinking out scenarios prior to the ball put in play, he might throw home for the tag on Cruz. I do seem to recall infielders having made plays like that. But that’s a lot to expect in the moment. But that was all Buxton!
  20. I told you they shoulda played a triple-header with three 5-inning games! lol
  21. Agree. Several years removed, and people tend to forget. When he started, he was all by himself.
  22. Yeah, no. Initially, Nike didn’t want anything to do with him, either.
