  1. Sounded like Berríos could not get on the same page with Rortvedt. Sounded like lots of shakeoffs and stepoffs.
  2. The Twins are approaching the point of no return in 2021. Win tomorrow, sweep the Tigers, and then give your guys a day off and set your team up to compete against the White Sox in 6 of the next 9 games next week.
  3. Agree. Although next time a starting pitcher gives up a couple runs in the 7th, someone is bound to say Told you So. (not naming names ) But one more inning, here and there, from a starter, will provide some benefit. Many things need to be done. Leaving a starter in for another inning or another batter is going to have to be part of the, *ahem*, process, of getting the bullpen back on its feet and salvaging this season.
  4. I think part of the solution, as @ToddlerHarmon gets at, is letting Maeda and Berrios pitch deeper into games. Happ, Dobnak and Pineda if they are breezing.
  5. I don’t think Berrios struggled. Not at all. One mistake pitch in six innings in a game in which the offense bats did their jobs. The Rodney Dangerfied of the Twins rotation! Enjoy him while you still can. Free agency beckons.
  6. I don’t understand what is meant by process. Kirilloff just looks like a natural hitter. He has always sprayed the ball and hit line drives. The metrics you describe in the article look more like just another way of describing that. I don’t think there’s any outside process happening here. Give him at bats, coach him as needed, get him experience.
  7. Baddoo has cooled off, and Detroit is still a 100 loss team. The knee jerk thing would be for Detroit to give up on him now, now that they have him, and he’s still in his early 20s (Baddoo is younger than Kirilloff) and still developing.
  8. I flinched when I saw Buxton run through first base.... I don't want him to get hurt, but I don't want him to turn off the faucet either. Can we dream on getting a 150-game season from him??
  9. Great game! Twins win* the series two games to one! * According to Pythagorean W-L record
  10. I was listening to the bottom of the 2nd inning on the radio. Atteberry and Provus were dissecting every pitch Maeda threw, in clinical detail. Very weird. I am just hoping they were going down a rabbit hole, and not communicating something subtle about what the team is concerned about.
  11. Any time someone suggests something like “but the Twins are 7-5 in 9 inning games”, I do put my antennae up for spin. I mean, it’s a fact, and I’ve probably said it myself, but ... ... but watch a game and make up your own mind, I guess. I hope the Twins turn it around. However, we already know they don’t have the pitcihing. Therefore, the offense will need to pick up the slack (like in 2019). When Washington started 19-31 in 2019, they had Scherzer, Strasburg and Corbin ready in the rotation. When Cleveland made up 11 games on the Twins, they had a .500 record but a good team as well (Lindor, etc). The Twins are neither the 2019 Washington or 2019 Cleveland team.
  12. The Twins are short Kepler and Sanó, and decide to carry five starters and eight relievers into the series with a day off Thursday. There’s little chance to make good late inning substitutions. When Baldelli does make a substitution, it’s to remove someone like Arraez, one of his best players. The double Rosario hit to left to Arraez should have been caught. It had an expected batting average of .150 — in other words, 85 of 100 of those balls are caught. I’m not blaming Arraez. We saw Eduardo Escobar shy away from a ball just like that in 2014, because he wasn’t familiar with the outfield. But we do need his bat in the lineup.
  13. A few of the interesting squares I had were: - Cave RBI - Jeffers walks on 4 pitches - Twins throwing error ...but I couldn’t connect them
  14. The historic post-season losing streak is making the Twins cocky. I’d be careful if I were them.
  15. I don’t have an opinion on taking out Dobnak after one inning, but he did give up loud contact in the inning he pitched (107.4, 98.0, 103.1 EV for those of you scoring at home)
  16. Speaking of second base. I really wish Arraez was the 2B. The front office deserves credit for moving Arraez up through the system so quickly and getting him to the majors. Kirilloff should be in the lineup tonight. Good luck to Gordon! He is going to need it. If Simmons is ready to return, Gordon’s role looks very limited to me.
  17. I mean, I’m not giving up on Rooker. Right now, though, Rooker feels like a strike out candidate every time he walks to the plate. Broxton can do that, and at least give you the ability to beat out a ground ball and play defense. But Kirilloff would make me happy too
  18. The season might need saving? Broxton in the outfield can prevent runs, has actual speed for pinch running situations, and had a good spring, which was used to justify Garlick making the team. Broxton over Rooker makes the team better today, at little to no cost. Same can be said for Kirilloff of course.
  19. I was thinking removing some pitchers from the 40-man but if Simmons is ready to return, then yeah, option Blankenhorn back. The only other infielder available on the 40-man is Gordon and they do not seem confident in Gordon. Rooker being optioned before Friday’s game also seems like an obvious move.
  20. I think Broxton needs to be up, too. That means cutting someone from the 40-man, but it would be like a kid in a candy store if it was up to me who to cut.
  21. It would be interesting to see data on how often a runner on second, with no out, would be required to run “all out” with maybe a slide, as opposed to easier advances (like a grounder to second or ball in the gap), or jogging home on a home run, or just standing out there the whole inning as batters strike out or line out. I will guess that the data favors leaving Donaldson in the game. ... but I don’t know
  22. I’m not a fan of pulling Donaldson there. As it played out, Donaldson’s spot was due up fifth the next inning. That could be a two-on, two-out RBI situation.
  23. I will say, Colome did look overpowering against Oakland’s no. 9 hitter (before walking him).
  24. Welcome to the blogs! I am more than ready to see if Dobnak can fill that five spot in the rotation.
