But actually that is what businesses do in the real world. They build and hope to make the owners richer down the road while the personnel endure leaner times hoping to see that same growth and benefit down the road from the better times to come. We hope our loyalty through the leaner times will be rewarded when the business thrives and that we won't get cut when it doesn't thrive right away. Joe Mauer has been in work now mode throughout his career despite enduring bad personal times and team struggles... When a business owner sees an opportunity, they may push their chips in and risk the future of the company on the big pay day. Baseball (and all sports) is a business and should be run like one much to our dismay

Article: Adopt-A-Prospect Is Back!
goulik replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Im looking forward to seeing who sizzles and who fizzles to be honest.... There are so many prospects with high upside and yet a low floor that you have no idea if they will make a big splash this year or just plainly disappear. This years list of prospects is exciting and intriguing to me for those reasons... -
Article: Adopt-A-Prospect Is Back!
goulik replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Different people find different aspects more interesting. Whatever gets you going is what you can make of this thing.(that is appropriate, sheds a positive light on your prospect, and is respectful) It is what you make of it so jump in and enjoy!! Different players offer different options of how to follow and update them. Some adoptive prospect parents enjoy taking a starting pitcher. You can get yourself on a routine of checking his progress every 5 days or so depending on when he is slated to pitch and give a game by game wrap. Others prefer relievers and hitters. With them, you may want to just give a week by week summary. Whatever your flavor is, there are different ways to go about it. I really enjoy taking guys I see as possibly making the MLB squad at some point, getting a mid season promotion within the minors or who I believe will be making noise during the season. I like to find sleepers that people don't know much about and I get to reveal to the baseball world more about them than if they had not been adopted. Finding ways to make it more interesting and getting more people to click on your post may be your thing. You can watch the TD tracker and see how many people are reading about your prospect and see if you can't get the most clicks. Make it what you want. Have fun and promote a guy that is busting his hump for a small reward (at least for now. Most of these guys don't make much, that's for sure.) -

I dream of Buxton turning into Ricky Henderson... He's got the speed but he hasn't learned yet to take FULL advantage of it after a single... Dude should have a lot of SB's in his future. So excited to have him on our team.- 18 replies

I believe with our call ups and signings the bull pen is there already. With a decent rotation in front of them, they could be really good (if used right and not over extended)- 21 replies

Article: Twins With Options On The Trade Front
goulik replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
But some of those prospects are MLB ready (as he said) and some can be used to trade for the other holes your filling when packaged with the prospects we already have . In the mean time Otani has been signed or Darvish or both without breaking the bank or handicapping future extensions. I see the plan and I like it but it would be hard to get all these birds to land in one nest.- 78 replies

Article: Who's Number One?: Minnesota's Top Prospect
goulik replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see arguments for and against all of these and I see arguments for others to be included on this list as well. I always have a bias towards those closer to the majors so I lean Gordon from your list. He is the most likely to make an impact at the majors based on skills demonstrated and nearness to actually making a debut. I will be disappointed if he does not get his first taste some time next summer (same with Gonsalves) I do not think he or Gonsalves are close to the most potential though. -

Article: Diving Into The Offseason: A Buxton Extension?

I hope for the long term health of this team this is how the brass will approach things. Buxton, Sano and Berrios are all the real thing IMO and this approach will make our window bigger and last longer. -

I remember telling people before the season and I believe predicting somewhere on TD before the season that Buxton will be HOF someday. My faith in his skills has only been enhanced by his baserunning this season and his second half patience with the bat. The future's bright! -
I see what you did here. Good one even if a little corny.

My first impression from this list is that there was a little "Prospect Bias" to some of the voting by just looking purely at the stats provided. There is plenty of room for argument about what could be some shuffling of rankings. What a closer examination reveals to me is that while there were several pitchers showing mid to back of the rotation stuff, no one just came out and completely blew us away like Berrios and Gonsalves have done previously. There appears to be a lot of hope. I hope that some of the hope turns into more than just hope. Please, someone, blow us away next Spring...

Article: Whiff Of Success: Gibson Making Bats Miss
goulik replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here is my Gibson take: I've never been a Gibson guy and I really hoped the Twins would trade him to Colorado several years ago when that was a rumor. I did not ever think he was a front line or mid rotation starter. I have hoped to be proven wrong about this for years and I will always root for him to succeed as long as he is on our team. I have greatly enjoyed his recent success and I too hope it is a sign that he has finally gotten over that hump but I am not going to bet on it. It is still just a hope because he has too much history to deserve more than that. Gibson has the natural ability to succeed, but he has not shown me the mental fortitude or the confidence in his stuff that he needs. Even recently, I still see him at times trying to nit pick. If he can learn (which is possible) to be confident, aggressive and resilient as he ages, he could develop into a solid 3 in a rotation. I still hope he does! Frankly we lack depth so I have no problem letting him come back next year and fight for a spot in the rotation but he needs to EARN that spot with the mental side of the game. -
Article: It's OK To Get Excited Again, Twins Fans!
goulik replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As long as they are not in the division race, they should be "measured" buyers or "measured" sellers. We're still a building team that seems to be just past the rebuilding team phase. Sell carefully the parts that are not going to be part of a run and buy pieces that will be. This seems to have been the deadline approach and should continue to be so. If surplus can be sold for long term control of assets, then a bigger deal can be made. Until then, we will probably only see Garcia or Kinzler type moves- 59 replies

Are there teams that don't do this? The key is doing a better job of it than the other teams. Just because the Twins have been worse than other teams in developing pitchers doesn't mean all the ways that they have sought and developed talent in the past are a failure. The key is to get better at the parts of it that you've been bad at it. There is Nothing wrong with finding Indy league talent or bringing up the best guy even though he is a former Indy leaguer. The problem here, I think, is that all of us here are skeptical to varying degrees about this years moves because of the past 5 years AND because Falvine have not finished the organizational make over. I think Turley and Melvilles success at AAA says they were the right moves bringing them into the organizatio., I'm just not convinced Boshers (Turley, Melville) should be in the Majors over Reed (Gonsalves, Hurlbut, Romero, Slegers) at this point. I might be wrong and there is no way to know for sure until Reed gets his chance. Until our team completes the turn around we will all maintain at least some skepticism

Article: Can The Twins Win With Dozier And Mauer?
goulik replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
3.5 games back from a one game lottery ticket on the road to hope to make the REAL playoffs... I don't know why people are so excited about the possibility of being a wild card team... that isn't really that good of a thing in baseball. We need to build to winning a division and being serious playoff contenders -
Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
goulik replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So what if we ARE giving up one of our TOP prospects and are also getting back a Top 15 prospect of theirs? Wasnt the rumor that we are also getting a prospect? I have heard a lot of speculation on "who are we giving up" and nothing on "who else are we getting". Maybe I shouldnt suggest this because it could just blow up TD but...IF we were giving up a Gordon type...Who else do we get back? -

This small addition also improves the bullpen if he can just allow the bullpen to get more rest between outings
