  1. As I just said above, I was at the game. Pineda looked to be working quickly and was on the verge of getting through the first two innings with around 20 pitches when we committed our first error of the night. Pineda survived two errors without allowing an unearned run but by the 5th inning you could see him clearly frustrated and giving the defense behind him looks of frustration. The errors were not the only questionable to bad D behind him. I honestly felt sorry for him and his defense left him hanging out to dry throwing way more pitches than he should of through the first several innings. It's no wonder he melted down and lost complete control in the 5th and 6th.
  2. There were not half that many people there. I was there...Most of those marked as in attendance most definitely were not there
  3. For the top 3 hitting prospects you included their position and from Caleb Hamilton's your write up let us know that he's a catcher but it would be nice to also see the positions for the "also ran's". Having said that, the small amount of data you gave us made me wonder why one of the young men from the Cedar Rapids team were not #4 instead of Hamilton? Was that taking position into account or possibly level?17-52, .327/400/.558 (.958) beats 17-60 283/.403/.500 (.903) in my mind. I'm not trying to be nit picky or critical, I am really honestly just wondering about the rationale if you don't mind elaborating further...Thank you.
  4. Went to my first game of the year today. This was fun! Had my 3 year old grand daughter with. She points towards left field and says “the fire works are going off over there.” We asked, “are there going to be fireworks after the game?” A moment later a ball leaves Cron’s bat with less arch than a throw by Polanco from deep in the hole. She just looks at us like “told ya”
  5. I literally laughed out loud while my students are taking a Math test. Now I feel guilty and will get back to my work email...
  6. Another thing I like about having Castro is it gives us the ability to use Astudillo at other positions when he is not behind the dish. If Garver is the starter and Castro is gone, Astudillo has to sit on the bench in case there is a Garver injury.
  7. I’m also on the Rortvedt band wagon. I loved him as a draft pick and I loved what I saw when I went to watch the Kernels. While there, I also heard lots of good things about him from the long time Kernels fans I sat near. They saw intangibles that they believed made their pitchers better. They credited him with being a good game caller and felt pitchers respected him behind the dish. I think he should be higher on this list. I would love to hear SD Buhrs opinion on this...
  8. He's a little under the radar but he was sent to Arizona last fall so I'm surprised Jacob Pearson is still in CR.
  9. With guys like Kirriloff and Lewis pushing their way up, it's do or do for some of these guys. They are getting passed
  10. If they increased pay by 500 a month across all levels 500x30 players(playing all Injured players)=15,000 15,000x7 minor league teams=$105,000 105,000x6 months is 630,000 (some minor league seasons are shorter and some longer) In any case, a raise seems financially reasonable and even paying them something for spring training and extended spring training seems quite manageable financially.
  11. This is starting to sound like mid season trade talk so I will offer Nick Gordon, Tyler Jay, a PTBNL and cash for a return of Sano early and Astudillo's healthy season
  12. Kiriloff and Lewis seemed to really connect last year. Their relationship reminded me a lot of Joe M. and Justin M coming up together but with more chemistry that affected their teams. Any chance they are both together in AA to start the season or are they going to be separated this year due to the bigger role defense plays at short? How far behind Kiriloff will Lewis be in making his debut?
  13. The tough thing about projecting in Baseball is the uncertainty Rounds 1-40. In other sports you have more knowledge of what you're getting. In comparison, in the NFL, you know a first round guy should be a super star or a QB... QB's are the biggest question marks. 2nd-4th rounders will probably be decent players to stars, and 5-7 rounders will probably be around the next 3 years but there are no guarantees they will contribute much. They are your NFL lotto tickets. Comparing that to baseball, a first round pick in baseball is more like a 5th to 7th rounder in football. They will probably make it to AAA and you will hear about them for the next several years but there is no guarantee they will really ever contribute. Everyone after the first round is an even bigger question mark. In the NBA, you pretty much know what you're getting from the outset. Unless your the Spurs, the second half of the first round through the second round are gonna be role players. MiLB and MLB baseball is such a crap shoot in comparison...
  14. As a 17 year old foreign born prospect, he was younger than the competition. He was a High Schooler playing against College age competition. the average GCL position player is something like 19 and a half. There is a big difference between a 17 year old and a 19 year old body. The stats made me take a little double take but they don't really concern me much.
  15. I believe HIldenberger will have a long career as a reliever. I am convinced he was misused by the Manager and the former manager's downfall was related to mismanagement of young players and the relievers.
  16. I was just responding to the numbers used in the OP and using them as examples of front loading not making actual suggestions. The OP had 2 years/10 million as a number so my numbers are the exact same 10 million total.
  17. C: Rortvedt-Garver 1B: Rooker 2B: Polanco-Gordon 3B: Javier-Gordon SS: Lewis-Javier LF: Rosario-(Celestino, Larnach or Maciel) CF: Buxton-(Celestino, Maciel or Rosario) RF: Kiriloff-(Celestino, Maciel or Rosario) DH: Rosario, Rooker, Kiriloff I'm going with one of Celestino, Larnach, or Maciel. If Larnach is here, he is in Left field pushing Rosario to DH/ Back up Outfielder. If Celestino or Maciel make it, they give more defensive flexibility as fourth outfielders, Rosario is starting in Left and DH is rotated. 13 Pitchers headlined by Starters Graterol, Romero, and Berrios (In that order)
  18. With our current financial flexibility, I don't know why teams (specifically ours) wouldn't be more interested in extensions that have more front end loading going on. Give them bigger raise now(can afford it) that doesn't continue to increase annually or even goes down over time to provide flexibility later when finances might be tighter. Two year, 10 million deal for Rosario? How about 4.5, 4.5 with a one million signing bonus? 3 year, 7.5 million for Rogers? how about 2.5 per year instead of 3.5 three years from now when we might need more flexibiltiy?
  19. 5 Things the Twins must accomplish: Didn't they at least partially do one of the 5? (Cron adds depth at the corner...)
