  1. Some of the names posters have included above would have to move quite aggressively so... Trying to be realistic first name is starter, second back-up. Here is my 25 man roster prediction: C Garver/Castro 1B Palka/Vargas 2B Polanco/Vielma SS Gordon/Vielma 3B Sano/Polanco (Vielma at second) LF Wade/Rosario CF Buxton/Granite RF Kepler/Wade (Rosario in LF) SP DeLeon/Berrios/Gonsalves/R. Rosario/May RP Chargios/Haley/Light/Melotakis/Stewart/Burdi Closer Jay
  2. Jason Marquis Career ERA 4.54 K/9 5.4. K/W 1.54 Twins ERA 8.43 K/9 3.2. K/W 0.86
  3. What inning is it? Who's the opponent? Is that.... Falvey on the mound?
  4. First, let's examine the OP: this was an examination of scouting talent. Whether a guy is signed or not , developed properly, or coached right was not the question. We all know our analytics has been archaic in comparison. That's not the scouting departments fault. The FO and international spending was not the topic. Scouting. Secondly let's look honestly at what Seth said... Average or Mediocre. That's not a ringing endorsement. I would hope that a front office would keep track of grades given by scouts and then how those played out when THEY judge their own scouting departments because there is also a difference between what a scout says and who is drafted by the guru in charge. Without knowing those grades it is very difficult to judge the scouting department
  5. I'm going to buck the trend and say only the top 4 need protection. I doubt Granite or Vielma stick to an MLB roster all year and I don't see anyone below them on the list sticking either. Even if selected, we will get them back (see Jones). Now if I was PBO or GM, I may protect others because I am on the inside and know the off season plan and actual roster openings. From the outside looking in though, I am mostly only concerned about those 4.
  6. No Santiago among the starters... I don't know if he is definitively out...
  7. I too was going to throw Pat Lights name out there. I wonder if he was suffering from the same nerves as Chargios and also just needs a little more time to settle in.
  8. Ok, I'm answering my own question after looking up Jeremy's Roster and Payroll page: Tovar, Meneses, Reynaldo and Jairo Rodriguez, Paulino and Greenwood are all minor league free agents after the World Series if they do not re-sign or are not on the 40 man roster and I doubt any are placed on the 40 man.
  9. Is Tovar signed with the Twins next year or is he a free agent? I assume free agent but you did not say that despite stating Bencomo was to be a free agent and refreshing us on Goodrum. I guess that question could be a whole new MiLB thread...
  10. I understand what you're saying and I'm not trying to be arguementive, but I just don't see many names that could stick for a year on a 25 man roster. I'm also counting lots that will be removed: Albers, Dean, Milone, Suzuki, Plouffe, Beresford, Schafer, and D. Santana would make room for Viielma, Garver, Palka, Jorge, Romero, and Granite to be added plus the return of Hughes and Perkins. Add a Catcher, cut Centeno. Add a pitcher, cut one of several relievers that are borderline cut already. There's plenty of room for improvement by subtraction. As I said previously, It will be interesting to see who is added but I don't see a problematic roster crunch.
  11. Agree: Albers, Dean, Milone, Suzuki Not sure: Landa, R. Rosario, Boshers Disagree: O'Rourke- Potential if used correctly Melotakis- I think the kid is gonna be good Walker- Closer to not sure because of Palka but if he learns to control the strike zone, he could be a masher! Santiago- The kid walks a lot, but he manages the ERA and wins more than he loses even on bad teams. Not an Ace but he is a consistent #3-#4 type pitcher. (When he ignores our coaches at least) *We also don't need that many spots open* You missed/forgot: Plouffe
  12. When ranking prospects, in my own head, I'm looking at likelihood of reaching the majors and projecting how good they will be in MLB. Having that as my filter, being higher in MiLB automatically means they are closer to the majors. That would cause me to shuffle the rankings you have put up here Seth, but overall, a good first stab. You have said many times this is the preliminary list, I am looking forward to the final rankings and the handbook.
  13. The college pitchers do not excite me as 1-1 fast track pitchers like past years. I want an ace
  14. Yes, I think you are missing something. The odds of Cabbage developing into something are falling and Molina may need to do a lot more to be considered highly, but there are some really young guys among these six names and 18 year olds are hard to project. You never know when a Badoo, Miranda, or Cabbage will develop into a Dozier! They all very well might become flops but any of them could be MLB role players, starters, stars or even HOF. When you play the lottery, you usually lose but there are also winners out there. These six just have farther to go than the next 25 (according to Seth who often knows more than most of us)
  15. I was really disappointed by Palacios all season but he still seems like someone with a ton of potential. Needs to stay healthy. Light has to be higher...He has already been called up. Can't get much closer to being ready than getting a call up. Hopefully he starts in AAA for a month or so next Spring and reaches his potential quickly. The 31-50 crowd doesn't have me excited yet but seeing Rosario and Melotakis this low says there is a lot of promise yet to come on this list!
  16. Maybe you should have waited until tthere were only 10-11 games left to atttempt this list... How about: There are lots of cheap seats available and there is nothing much better than a beautifful fall evening at Target Field
  17. Its a government conspiracy. Now that you have pointed it on Social media, your life is in danger. Hopefully you read this before the post is deleted. Destroy your computer, they are tracking you through the Internet. Get all your cash and run! Don't use credit cards until your in South Ameriica. They are tracking those too. Do not try to contact me. Good luck.
  18. This answer makes sense to me even if Seth meant Short instead of shot. The cool thing about lists like this is that everyone has stats they deem worthy or unworthy of consideration (age, k/9, K/BB, innings, WAR) and we all can read, enjoy and learn some things while enjoying a pass time. I ranked him below Hellquist because while giving up 0 walks, he gave up more hits that, to me, more than off set the fewer walks. Just something that stood out to me.
  19. I would rank them Hellquist, Anderson, Ynoa, Wells, McGuff. Total number of innings pitched has to come into play with the SSS of short season which makes it hard to push a reliever into the discussion at all. Hats off to McGuff for pushing his way into the conversation. Ynoa would have easily won this for me if not for the last couple games but long term I think he is probably the most Likely to emerge as a top prospect and MLB starter.
  20. We have had lots of pitchers come through the MLB club and be much worse than where they were before whether it was from free agency, trade, or promotion from the minors which again brings up the topic of defense behind them. It also makes me wonder about pitch framing, pitch calling, and overall coaching. Seeing one or two guys plummet is just part of the ups and downs of seasons and careers. Santiago was hot before arriving and now we're lynching him... Maybe the pitchers are not the (only) problem.
