Article: Let's Stop Discounting Tommy Milone
goulik replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As we go forward with all these young pitchers trying to prove themselves, we need some reliable proven starters. Santana and Milone we know what we're going to get. Hughes alternates his good years (10, '12, '14) with bad years ('11, '13, '15) but most of his "good years" are only as good as Milone where it really matters, putting the team in position to win. Gibson, Duffey, May, Meyer, Berrios, etc are still all unproven. Milone IS the right choice for the starting rotation ALL YEAR. It's all the others not named Santana that are the question marks. We are beating the wrong dead horse folks. -
Article: The Middle And Its Dangers
goulik replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Something to remember when discussing innings is how much time they had off last winter. Did they play winter ball? Were they off at all? Berrios needs to be ready for next year. Going all in on a wild card one game playoff seems foolish risk for what could be years of division dominance we are hoping for in the future from him and the rest of the team. I've been preaching it all year... We're preparing for next year. Finally, I would like to say this. A lot of posters have talked about going all in this year while talking about all our flaws...really?!? You don't go all in and sacrifice the future when you still have this many flaws. You don't go all in to make the playoffs or even to make it to the second round. You go all in when you see you can win it ALL if you go all in. Hopefully that's next year, but at no point was that this year. -
I might lean more towards Berrios given the strike outs, walks, and WHIP but Lee didn't have even the "one bad inning" in the whole month. I can see the argument both ways

Well, dang it, you stole my thunder! I wrote about Lee as my adopt a prospect last night but then I lost my write up before I posted it and went to bed. I was trying to take partial credit as he is undefeated as my prospect but alas, he didn't give me any credit...

I was also greatly disappointed with the trade deadline coming and going so quietly. I think there were opportunities missed here. Tulo for Gibson? Done! How did we not get more than one reliever? All the catchers available and no one to dance with? Hard to believe. And then there is San Diego... All that smoke and no fire?

Article: They Couldn’t. Could They…?
goulik replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly what I'm saying. My complaint about Ryan isn't that he doesn't make moves and I do like that when he says he's working on something, he is working on something. But often his moves are underwhelming. Eg. A week + ago we were dreaming of tulo and if we ended up with Reyes we would be underwhelmed but that is the likeliest way he will do this trade thing.- 47 replies

Article: They Couldn’t. Could They…?
goulik replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Your misunderstanding my statement. Ryan says at the beginning of the 2013 offseason he's trying to get a starter and he signs Nolasco and Hughes. The 2014 offseason begins and again he says he's trying to sign pitching and goes out to sign Santana. Now he says he's gonna make a trade if possible, I believe he will do it because he does what he says. That does not mean we will all like it...- 47 replies

Article: They Couldn’t. Could They…?
goulik replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Today is repeat myself day... I said it before, TR tends to do what he says he is going to do. He states we need more starting pitching in the off season, that means he will sign someone. Earlier this week, he made a statement about trying to make a trade. I am positive a trade will happen, possibly more than one. Feel free to Bash me hard if it does not happen. I am making a 100% in call on this one. Fairly confident the padres will be one of those partners but don't hold me too accountable if it is a trade with someone else instead...- 47 replies

Article: Twins, Rockies Talk Tulowitzki
goulik replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The article I read said Colorado was likely to try to flip Reyes. With what they took in the Tulo trade, I wonder if Meyer and Escobar/Santana would net Reyes? -
Article: Twins, Rockies Talk Tulowitzki
goulik replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Which team is better, Gibson and Danny Santana or May and Tulo? This year and for the next 4 years, I would go with option 2. How would we rate the long term projectablity of May, Berrios, and Gibson? I would rank them in this order: Berrios-Long term top of the rotation starter (Probably a no. 2) May-Long term middle of the rotation, younger than Gibson, Higher K rate Gibson-Long term middle of the rotation older than May, lesser K rate They asked for Gibson, why further hurt our future by upping their request with Berrios? I DONT get that. This is a sell high on Gibson. Lets sell high for once. I dont know why so many on this site freak out on the sell high proposals one year then complain the next few years that we didn;t sell high when we had the chance (see Pelfrey discussion one month ago...) -
Article: The Twins' Pinch-Hitting Problem
goulik replied to Greg Logan's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I believe the reason to pinch hit is to bring in a better bat than what you have going to the plate. This would eliminate most pinch hitting opportunities based on who is on the bench. Do you bring in someone to hit .200 when you have a .240 up to bat? That brings us to Nunez for Suzuki. While Suzuki has shown an overall weak bat, I thought I remembered reading somewhere on TD that his BA with runners on was dramatically higher and therefore a person to NOT pinch hit for late in the game with runners on in an important spot. No runners on, down by one 8th-9th inning, catcher on the bench? Maybe pinch hit for Suzuki with Nunez. Maybe pinch hit for Santana with Nunez but other than that I'd be rolling with the guys I have out there based on our current bench. Yeah, it needs improvement. Robinson is a pinch runner, not a pinch hitter and you also need one of those. -
this has all been covered elsewhere but signing Cody for less than slot because of the physical would have freed up bonus money to also sign others lower in the draft.Since we did not get him signed we get a compensation pick #74 next year and are done signing this year.

Article: TD Midseason Top Prospects: #7 Nick Gordon

His adopt a prospect page points out that his BA has greatly improved over the last month though the power is still not there. He is 19. He is still growing into his manhood so to speak power wise. -

Article: Which Twins Deserve All-Star Consideration?
goulik replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Loving this team and many players on it I have to be honest about who is best at each position in the league and say we don't have a single #1 or #2 best at any position. Dozier is great and Plouffe has become an excellent 3rd baseman but they are not THE guys yet. Pitching again who is elite? Maybe Perkins but that's it. My only Twin All Star worthy of the title is Perkins.- 32 replies

Article: Clutch Joe Mauer Is Suddenly An RBI Machine
goulik replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Success breeds success. Mauer's numbers looked better earlier in his career in part because he was on better teams. This isn't to say He hasn't declined but I believe part of his decline is lack of hitting around him the last few years. I don't believe he will ever be what he once was but a return to health and the progression of youth I believe is also part of his rebounding numbers.
