  1. When a player like Boyer is signed we here lots of "What was Terry Thinking", He does well and people put them on their lists of long term solutions and want us to dump other players, then They regress to the mean and people say "Terry should have traded him when his value was high" Were building for next year still...were in the final stages of the rebuild but that is still what this is. Let me be on the record of saying "Sell High" PS. This applies to Pelfrey also...
  2. Byron Buxtons numbers look great in the second half of the hitters stats. If he was taking walks and hitting for higher average...WOW, he would be off the charts!
  3. Thanks for the Rochester update and please keep posting about the club there!
  4. It also depends on what you consider to be "taking this team seriously". Many of us seriously expect this team to be a 500 team give or take a few wins. Contenders for the World Series? Not yet. Playoffs? If so, one round and done Im sure but a lot of things would have to bounce right our way for that. In all honesty though, this is sports and you really never know until half way through any season what your team has. Heck, half way through the Wild season we would all have been happy if they snuck into the playoffs and now were crushed because we thought they were gonna win it all.
  5. I found no links to videos but found the article fascinating none the less. Thank you SD
  6. The game I watched was not 75% Fastball, 25% Changeup...at most 50% fastballs and I'm pretty sure there was more going on there than those two pitches...
  7. Laborers in the Middle Ages were organized into guilds with three levels of expertise. New recruits were apprentices taken in by a Master who would teach them a trade. The new Apprentice was not given the freedom to work independently but was closely supervised until they reached the skill level of a Journeyman, one who was adequate to do the job independently but not as skilled as a master. These Journeymen might continue to work for the same Master or they might move from Master to Master or even city to city seeking to learn enough to establish themselves as a Master eventually and become independent instead of employed. Similar systems still are in place today. My brother in law is a master electrician in the state of Minnesota with his own business. Until he gained the license as a Master electrician, he was a Journeyman and had to work under a Master Electrician. My Mom was a Minnesota Master gardener and opened her own greenhouse.
  8. Dozier didn't make the list... Those international signings sure skews my expectations
  9. Yes Sano had 2 HRs but that's the only hits and combined with the strike outs, recovering from surgery, and no one expecting him to be ready, I'm ok with the option. We need to see others get their at bats and sort out who actually makes the team not watch a prospect. My only disappointment in ALL the cuts was Oliveros but that bullpen is gonna be crowded with starters we can't option out especially is May and/or Meyer make the squad.
  10. I see Rosario making his debut before Buxton or Sano. I Would even bet he's the first rookie to debut this year. If you're going to give the kid a shot, you might want to do it early in the year cuz Buxton is up by September...
  11. Keys to the fast start: Dozier, Plouffe, Santana, and Vargas need to show last year was the real deal and play like they did a year ago. Mauer's sweet stroke returns to make up for Suzuki's return to Earth The Outfield comes together AKA Hicks becomes what he should have been two years ago Pitching! Santana and Hughes lead the pitching staff back to respectability allowing the offense to carry us Sano and Buxton stay healthy so they can get called up
  12. I watched some Astros Baseball in the day And loved Bagwell and Biggio. To me they always belonged together so put them both in the hall together. Are they most deserving? Hey I'm not discussing that, I just liked them! Honestly, Arguements can be made for most everyone you listed but beyond a doubt the no brainer is Randy Johnson. If he isn't first ballot, no one ever should be again EVER! IMHO, he over shadows the rest of the list And I wasn't even a fan, he was just the best.
  13. Thorough list but I would quibble with you on a few percentages: Meyer: Injury history makes 99.999% a little high (knocking on wood as I type. Seriously, I literally knocked) Graham: As a rule V, I see his % chance of being on our opening day roster as higher than this Rosario: With the hot AFL showing and how he played last year I think 85% he will make team out of ST, 10% he's released after another drug suspension, 5% chance he plays a full minor league season without a call up
  14. Bringing in Santana locks up only 2 spots IMHO. Hughes and Santana are locks. No one else. This is how you want to bring up a prospect, with competition where they actually earn it. I see Meyer and May potentially shuttling back and forth from Rochester some this year which is good! We handed Hicks the job, howd that work? You never want to hand a job to someone even if they are your hope for contention. You want it Meyer? Then take it. Finally! Were doing this thing right finally!! Spring training is gonna be interesting!
  15. Lost my audio right after Thomshaw was picked by Miami... Was that the end of the Minnesota connections?
  16. I do not remember the source of the numbers or exact numbers at all but I do remember there being a long discussion on TD about payroll as a % of revenue last Fall and when all things were factored in, Ryan's budget was in the 110-120 range. Pohlad said he wanted Ryan to spend more last off season than he did and Ryan has pushed the idea that he tried to spend more last off season. All that to say I don't think the recent payroll has anything to do with determining payroll constraints this year. I believe Ryan has the green light to go North of 100 million and possibly even to 110-120 range. Sports fact. Winning teams usually fill seats (South Florida teams always an exception) Pohlad wants his seats filled. Fan favorite names like Hunter will do that also but only for a short time if we keep losing. They know this and want to improve the starting pitching. Ryan has been pretty consistent over the years of signing positions he said were needs. We will get a starter this offseason. The question really is how will we acquire that SP. Trade? Big Name free agent? Reclamation project? There is our angst, not the payroll.
  17. I'm not sure if you'd call it a breakout or a rebound but Eddie Rosario could be This years Santana in a position we really need it.
  18. Lock him up. I agree with the front loading of the deal. With that said... Front load it even more and maybe go 8 years
  19. No, his greatest long term value is if Sano is 3B of the future and Plouffes tradability which is not enhanced by this contract. My hope is that he is a mid season trade July '15 to a contender and brings back a piece we need to make our '16 run for the pennant
  20. Seth, can you give us a scouting report on Danny Ortiz? He has put up respectable though unspectacular numbers that seem to be an upgrade over some of the MLB outfield numbers we have seen. He was a 4th rounder which is again respectable. What keeps him off the prospect lists or from contending for a spot next spring?
