  1. Worried? No. It could just be that maybe he's not as good as all the hype. Most prospects don't make it. I'm a results person as well. Let's wait and see. After all, the Twins never make mistakes in evaluating prospects.
  2. Like most people here I have been pleasantly surprised at the starting pitching. I'm not so convinced it's going to hold up over the long haul. The starters need to pitch longer into games. The bullpen is already overused. I'm worried they will burn out early. Early I predicted 75-78 wins. I think they can do 82-85 wins realistically.. That could possibly give them a division title in a very weak division. They need to pile up wins in May with an easier schedule. They may win it if Baldelli doesn't keep messing it up.
  3. I also expect Bundy to implode. Yesterday's game is second very bad outing in a row for Bundy. He's following a very familiar pattern last year with the Angels. I also would expect Archer to possibly implode as the season drags on. Starting pitching has been much better than I thought it would be.... So far. .I do wish they could go longer in games. My current concern is the bullpen is overused and may break down as the season develops. Using the excuse that spring training was short is over. We are a month into the season so starters need to get 7 innings even 6 more regularly. Hopefully Twins will bounce back today with a big win. .
  4. There's always going to be bad games in a long season. What was really bad was the team at least for one day looked like the 16 games under .500 twins team from last year. Yuck!! Sending Bundy back out there after the team just scored runs to get back in the game was inexcusable. Anyone could see he didn't have it. Also giving Buxton another day off is a joke. Granted the way the team played they may have lost anyway but why does Buxton need a rest. Now he's missed 9 of the teams first 25 games. I realize some of that was due to injury (again) but it was his 3rd scheduled day off. When this team falls out of contention, I hope it does not, it will be because of Baldelli. Clearly one of the poorest managers in MLB
  5. Twins have played 21 games. Buxton has only been in 13 of them. Sounds frustratingly familiar. He needs to get healthy and stay on the field. Up to this point nothing has changed with him. He's very good when he plays. He just doesn't play any where near enough. Here's hoping he gets better. I'd love to see a healthy Full Season of Buxton production.
  6. Excellent article. Good mix of players. Some are over performing, some are underperforming, and some not performing at all. At this point I'm more worried about the manager. If the team fails this year it will be on Baldelli. Truly one of poorest managers in the game. We are winning in spite of his poor judgement, poor bullpen handling, extremely poor in game management and adjustments, lineups, strategies, and his over reliance of metrics.
  7. Another prime example of new analytics making a very bad player appear to be good. You had to dig deep for those numbers to support Sano. Hitting in bad luck? Come on. I know traditional numbers mean nothing to you but it does for a lot of people. He is hitting .083. yes that's .083. he has 1 home run that made into the first row at Fenway. 4 RBI. Those are real stats. He's earned those at this point. Have you actually watched him play? He's mostly overmatched. Yes he will probably hit a hot streak and hit a few home runs. Then he will get as cold as ice. I'm sure he will be here throughout the year. But I'd be surprised if he's here next year. He's awful. We all know it. We all realize that he's probably the last guy you want up in key situations. His all or nothing approach (mostly nothing) hurts the team. Instead of trying to put the ball in play he just strikes out. Strike outs produce no offense. Analytics be damned!!
  8. I see today Buxton is not in the lineup. Does that mean he's hurt? Is it one of Baldellis scheduled days off philosophy? It surely can't be that since Buck was off for several days with an injury. If he's not hurt you play him at home games. He's a good player and maybe the most popular with the fans. The few people that are actually going to Target Field deserve to see the best players play. Do your days off philosophy on the road.
  9. I agree that players need rest and days off. However Baldelli should have used Correa to pinch hit either for Godoy or the next time Gordon came up with runners on. Gordon was playing SS and Correa could have easily pinch hit and put him in at short. Yes Correa could have struck out who knows. But he's paid superstar dollars to play ball. He should have been used as a punch hitter. Baldelli sure indicated at that point that he didn't care if they won or lost as long as his plan wasn't upended. Good for him that Buxton bailed him out or he would be answering lots of questions about his strategy. I also agree that these B and C lineups installed usually on get away day or afternoon game after a night game should be done on the road not at home.
  10. I'm not a Jake Cave fan at all. But he would certainly be better than Garlick. Garlick needs to be DFA. He can't hit major league pitching. Yet he keeps getting sent in to pinch hit. He strikes out or had very weak at bats. I'm not sure what the Twins see in Garlick. There has to be someone better in st. Paul better than him.
  11. Great game by Ryan..plus the Twins won it on its own without help from the opponent. If Correa and Polanco ever get going watch out.
  12. Yes ugly win. But a win nonetheless. Tigers baled out Baldelli just like Buxton bailed out Baldellis in game managing skills the game before. Kepler was the main offense. Buxton, Correa, and Polanco at the top of the order went 0 for 11. Correa still looks terrible at the plate and leads the team in strikeouts. We are all sure he will come around soon. Thanks Tigers for your error. It erased a terrible base running display that should have ended the game. Let's go for 6 in a row tonight guys.
  13. Correa was a nice signing for the Twins. However there is no way the Twins are going to sign him long term to a mega million dollar deal. He wants to use us for a year, let's use him for a year. Let him leave after the season. We have enough young developing talent coming up. I know it's early but so far he has done very little to nothing to justify a twins team to invest $35 million per year. I hope and assume he will come around. I just don't think he's worth that long term commitment to. And the twins generally don't do long term deals. No way they extend him.
  14. Sano always goes through this. Pretty soon he will be hot for a week or two then go back to his normal ways. He is just playing himself off the Twins at end of season. No way Twins should pick up his option this off season. Whatever happened to the "eye test"? You can tell he's been awful by watching his plate appearances. He looks lost. He is basically an automatic out in the batting order. He's hitting .083 and still strikes out way too much. He will come out of it I hope but it just goes to show what kind of " stats" one can find to make a bad hitter look good. Hitting in bad luck, oh please. When he hits a hot streak then everything will be forgotten until he goes cold again. He needs a change of scenery to get his career going again. It's obvious the manager and coaches can't fix him.
  15. Baldelli is a stiff for a manager. Using your logic regarding days off, why not give Sano days off, or Polanco. There's nothing wrong with a day off, they are important! But to refuse to use him in obvious pinch hitting situations with runners on base is inexcusable! Would it have been so hard for Correa to bat once and play ss for a couple of innings? I stand by my comments and insist that had Buxton not bailed him out, people would have been after Baldelli for his " strategy". Great game Buxton.
  16. I agree Buxton is awesome. He saved Baldelli today. His refusal to use Correa in key pinch hitting opportunities was disgraceful. It wasn't lost on the radio broadcasters as well. Beldelli continues to mismanage this team. You pay a superstar $35 million a year yet don't use him in a key situation to try and win the game. If not for Buxton Baldelli would have had a lot of questions to answer. Did Carrea need a day off? He just had one a few days ago. Besides there was already a day off Monday. Baldelli gets an F for the day. Buxton an A+. The A for a great performance. The + for bailing out Baldelli..
  17. Great player yes. Great month of April yes. But he is not the best player in baseball. He may be the best at this short moment in time but he needs to prove it over playing a full season. He may wind up being the best and I hope so. Unfortunately his injury history has greatly held him back. If the Twins have any chance to be a contender they need him for the entire season. He is awesome to watch. I'm glad the Twins locked him into a long term deal.
  18. Sorry Seth. Didn't mean to upset your view of the Twins. I had just asked why Correa isn't playing again today? He's already had one or two days off already. I was suggesting with his salary and all the hype he should be playing. If you disagree with that fine. Don't need to get snippy. Or is your opinion the only one that matters here?
  19. Has anyone heard why Correa isn't in the lineup Sunday? I'm assuming he must be hurt or sick or something. Not even our weird manager would give a $35 million dollar another scheduled day off. Gordon playing short today is ok but Correa has already had days off and certainly hasn't lived up to that hefty payday so far. If I was the front office or owner I would want him in there when I'm paying him that much. But we have to keep sending automatic out Sano there almost every day. I'm hoping for a good day from Sano. Correa? What's the story? Unless he's hurt/ sick he should be playing especially in front of the home crowd. Some people still pay a lot of money to watch a ballgame at Target field. They deserve to have their best available lineup out there.
  20. Buxton day off wasn't to see how his knee would respond. Baldelli said it was his scheduled day off. And we know we can't interrupt Baldellis analytics computer schedule. That would be wrong.
  21. Yes MLB has at many times become unwatchable. It is at times too slow paced. Many times it is just plain boring. However one of the many great things about baseball is a slower pace than the other sports. And I generally like all the sports. To me baseball is meant to be slower paced ( but not this slow). I think what is hurting the game is the video game atmosphere it has created with all these silly and ridiculous analytics pushing the game. Also all the swing for the fences or nothing mentality being coached throughout baseball. Home plate umpiring has become atrocious. Way too many strikeouts. Strikeouts don't produce anything for offense. Then people defend their players striking out all the time. The game, in it's current state, is very hard to watch. I still watch it after all these years because I like the game of baseball. No matter how and why MLB seems hellbent on destroying it.
  22. Finally a great overall Twins win!! I sure hope this gets the offense going on a more regular basis. Let's sweep the White Sox.
  23. Why are the Twins so high on Kyle Garlick? He certainly isn't a good pinch hitter. After Baldelli takes him out for guys who were hitting during the game, Larnach had two hits, then another day he pinch hit for someone who has homered. He usually strikes out or gets light contact. Does not produce. Plus he's a liability defensively. I understand Rocco's computer may tell him to pin h hit Garlick for someone that's is actually hitting. It's working out great so far, right?
  24. What's so frustrating for the offense is that almost all of the lineup is drastically underperforming at the same time. Sano is such an enigma. But he's always been that. This year even more so. He is hitting well south of .100 he sure seems to be sinking his fate this year with the Twins. Correa is hitting well below .200. These people are paid a lot of money to produce. Between the two of them they are being paid in excess of $45 million this year or about a third of the team payroll. Isn't it ok to expect more of them? Jeffers is a decent defensive catcher but can't hit major league pitching. Buxton got off to a great start his first few games then he too quit hitting before being injured again. By the way the invested a lot of money in him too. They need him if this team has a chance. Sox gave the Twins a win last night as the Twins only managed 5 hits. They have scored a total of 3 runs in the past three games. Two of them from white Sox errors. Today Twins need to finally get the bats going, beat Chicago, and put the division on notice that the Twins are going to be a force. If the bats don't show some life the will be a farce. We've already wasted games where we got great starting pitching.
