Twins Playing for What May Happen
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Baldelli, in my opinion, will probably be one of the big reasons if Twins miss playoffs or if they do to get blown out in the first round. It will be interesting to see his starting lineup tonight. I'm worried he will use this game as another throwaway game and start a b or c lineup. I hope he doesn't do that because we have a chance to take a series from the Yankees.- 33 replies

Yes a great ballgame Wednesday. Twins played almost perfect ball. Thursday is another day however. With Bundy pitching against Cole it COULD be a disaster. Then yesterday's game has less significance. If Twins win Thursday that would be great. Take the series. At this point though I am worried about Baldellis lineup. On days like these he tends to rest players that don't need it. Please play your best players today

Rocco's choice of Duffey in the seventh was a weird choice considering with the off day the bullpen was well rested. That is why Baldelli baffles me as a major league manager. Just doesn't use common sense. As for his ejection, good for him. I believe it wasn't so much the ball was or was not fouled. I believe he was rightfully, and totally frustrated with the home plate umpires balls calling on Yankee hitters that were missed and should have been strikes. That home plate umpire was terrible and was intimidated by the Yankee mystique. He was brutal.

Rocco is an interesting study as a manager. He has had a tough year with all the injuries and FO. Still in first place? Big deal! It's a crummy division and Twins have been ok and very lucky at times. I think twins have only won like 5 of their last 13 or so. I think he is a very decent man and very competent. I am not a fan of his overuse of his analytics and his computer needs a reboot. I don't like his use of the pitching staff. His lineups at times are horrific. Injuries aside there's been too many times when star players were not in lineup even though they were able to play. His in game decision making and adjustments are very poor. Sticking tou your game plan without any game flexibility leads to losses. He has apparently throw away games when his plan must be used even if it will likely result in a loss. I think he is inflexible and stubborn in his way or not at all. I'm not ruling him a hero or a villain at this point mainly due to the injuries and covid issues. Last year was a disaster. This year could become a disaster but I surely hope not.

To me Garlick would be the best choice to DFA. He's ok but poor defensively and just average as a pinch hitter. Buxton? Who's Buxton? Where is Buxton? With his injuries and not being able to play much he is becoming a liability. If he's hurt, and it's affecting his performance, put him on IL. When he's not playing his injuries extend to the bench by reducing options. He essentially becomes dead weight.
-
Great article as usual Nick. Buxton, I don't know. When he's not on il and not playing it wastes a bench spot. That ties Baldellis hands. Although he's been a little better lately he hasn't been the same Byron for awhile. Or maybe he has. I mean after all he is injured again. He's not really contributing. You can't really count on him again. We should be used to that. It seems it's worse this time around in that he's not playing well. Plus they play him sporadically. I think if he's still hurting after the Yankee series he should go on il.
-
Yes. A very nice and unexpected series win in Toronto. Jays were on an 8 game win streak averaging 7 runs per game. Twins were banged up and had covid issues. Well done twins!! Baldelli continues to show that he will be the main reason the twins may not make the playoffs.

Heroes of the Twins First Third
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To me the twins mvp thus far is luis Arraez. He leads the world in hitting, or so it seems. He adjusts to playing different positions. Comes up with key hits as most teams can't defend him as he sprays the ball all over. He needs to be in the lineup more often. Yes that includes against left handed starters. Kepler does it and has done pretty well. To develop Arraez fully he needs to be exposed more to left handers or how else will he learn to hit them. My runner-up MVP is Jorge Polanco. He's out there playing most of the time even through minor injuries. Unlike some of his teammates that are out all the time or so it seems. At this point there is no way Buxton can be considered a team MVP as he is again another year as a part time player. Correa? He's been good but not great. Definitely not producing nor playing like a superstar should be expected.- 20 replies

What's Going On With Jorge Polanco?
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What's wrong with Polanco? Nothing much that I can see. Unlike some players on the team Jorge plays. He doesn't sit out with a hang nail. And for some reason he isn't babied by Baldelli by giving him a couple of days off per week. I like Polanco. To me he's the heart and sould of the team so far since many days we can't even find Buxton. Keep hanging in there Jorge. You are doing great and we need you! -
Yes we got trounced yesterday 12-3. Not unexpected. Yes, as someone said, today is another day. Smeltzer pitching today. He's been very good since spring training. He's done everything they have asked of him and then some. With Toronto's hard hitting lineup however, I see the Blue Jays jumping on him. I'm afraid we could be looking at another blowout loss today. And if we don't get some of our players back I figure we will get swept by the Yankees this week

Great game. But let's not get carried away. Like many of you constantly remind us when twins lose a one sided game that's only one game. Don't get me wrong it was a very good and very surprising win. I hope it continues. I would imagine that since Buxton had a great game with 3 hits including a homer, and Miranda and kerlick each had two home runs, that our illustrious manager will find a way to not have them in the starting lineup. He will be the biggest deterrent to the team making the playoffs.

The experts last year told us it's early, it's a marathon not a sprint all the way into September. It's natural to be skeptical if you are a Twins fan. I am hoping they pull it off. At this point with all the injuries and covid it's hard to predict. Without any additions to the pitching staff I just don't see it happening. My opinion is the pitching has benefitted greatly from a weak schedule. I sense that as things get tougher the true story of our pitching staff will be shown:. That overall, except for a couple of notable exceptions, the pitching staff is not great, just average. I sure hope twins can win the division. At the current rate a wild card team will not come out of the central.

Count me in with the ones that said 3-4 wins but probably should have been 2 or less. Baldelli will let too many regulars sit like yesterday. He has no in game management skills, doesn't know how to adjust or use common sense. He will continue to cost us some wins as well. It's time to reboot Rocco's computer. If that doesn't work then he needs to be booted.
-
Yes gaining one game with a 15-12 run is indicative only of a weak division.we have lost 6 of the last 9 games. Looking at the starting lineup yesterday you knew right away it was a throwaway game. Baldelli has too many of those. He is totally incompetent. Not having Buxton, Kepler, and one of the best hitters in baseball Aareaz in the lineup is ridiculous. Lefty, lefty not withstanding, he should have had at least one or two of those in the lineup. U noticed the tiger broadcasters we're miffed by his decision to sit those three players. Right away, as in the past, he gave the impression he didn't care about winning. Only his plan for the day. He is inflexible and a totally incompetent in game manager. Buxton has been a stiff for three weeks now. He no longer is an asset. At this point he is a liability. An automatic out. Most of the injuries/ illnesses were to players not projected to be starters everyday players, except Correa. So let's not totally blame this on that. Baldelli deserves a big blame for his share in this

Celestino's Strong Second Impression
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Celestino has been great. I hope he gets back soon. Buxton? Who's Byron Buxton? Oh yes the greatest player in the game that misses a lot of games. Sound familiar? He's hitting around .200. I always said, if he can get 100 mill for being a part time player he better sign before they change their mind. Not a bad outcome for a player that has a career .248 average in 7 years. And that's when he plays. Yes it was a good deal. For Byron Buxton. -
The second game was one of several throw away games Baldelli has had this year. You know where he figures we are going to lose so let's help that thought process along. I think his computer needs to be rebooted.

Rocco's "plan". Sure is working well. Rest people as much as you can. If we happen to win then so be it. I'm convinced that winning is not his goal. But following " the plan" is more important. And it shows. The plan to rest players and baby the pitchers is working well isn't it? Look at all the people on the IL. Now they are starting to lose games they should win. The bullpen already looks tired. We have way too many guys injured. Same old story this year with Buxton as he is always hurt. What fan isn't sick of that? And the last few weeks he's been playing terribly when he gets out there. Now we have the covid bug and a "handful" of players that aren't aloud to go into Canada for this weekends games in Toronto.then we play Yankees and Rays right after that. As for the poor defensive plays yesterday:. It's a bad sign. But when Miranda misplayed a couple of balls, why wasn't the pitcher able to pick him up and pitch out of the situation. I maintain the next 15 games could determine the season. Too bad we don't have a full roster. But at least they have a built in excuse should the losing continue
-
The pitching has been a disaster waiting to happen since the season started. With retreads and rookies anchoring the starting pitching we knew the bullpen would be next. They have been overworked for too long now. It's hard to expect so much out of them when they are overused. We must get out of the delusion where the starters give you 4 or 5 innings and think they did a great job. A well pitched game should take a competent starting pitcher into the 7th inning. It's ridiculous to see fans give a pitcher a standing ovation for pitching 5 innings and giving up 4 earned runs. The relievers are pitching way too many innings each game. It is not sustainable.

It's so good to know that you know everything. I bet you THINK you know everything. We are all entitled to our own opinions regarding the validity of the current roster and their playoff potential. Yes that includes you and me as well.

Belief in Starting Duo Paying Off
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Both are doing great. Let's see if it holds up when they play real baseball teams. I think they will do decent but not overwhelming against the top teams. I like them both. I think they can be the anchors of twins starters for years- 9 replies

Yes a very winnable game. But these things happen in MLB. I've been wondering for several weeks how this bullpen can hold up. They are pitching way too many innings on a nightly basis. I just can't see how they can be expected to hold up throughout the summer. They haven't had to deal with too many good teams thus far. Just thinking that the much tougher schedule in June will highlight many of the teams weaknesses. Byron Buxton? Where is he?

Are the Twins an Experiment in Action?
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Many of those "experiments" were necessitated by injuries and ineffectiveness. The fact that they are working out so far is a testament to the players who have filled in. Not so sure all of this is part of a new vision by the Twins. Team is doing great, albeit against some pretty bad baseball teams, many of which are riddled by injuries. Great job of taking advantage of it. That's what good teams do well. If the Twins were losing these games we would be furious. I do find it interesting that people already have them in the playoffs. I hope they make it. It would be a lot of fun. However, some of the same people who tell us, it's early when they are playing poorly, are now talking playoffs. Let's wait until we play some real teams. Remember, it's still early, not for just when they are losing.- 38 replies

An Early Look Back on the Chris Paddack Trade
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not sure how anyone can put a positive spin on the trade. It was and is a disaster. Worst part is we not only gave Padres 6.5 million in cash but had and have no plans for anyone to close out games. Pagan reminds me of Ron Davis. He may be an ok pitcher but not in the closer role. Just as you say Paddack may be great after he is done with Tommy John, the second time, it's just as likely he will be just a shell of his former self.- 44 replies
