Twins Acquire RHP Sonny Gray from Reds for Chase Petty
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very good move for the Twins. Still need one or two more reliable starters. Like many of you have said the twins probably won't be contending this year. But at least it appears they may be trying to put a major league team on the field. I certainly hope so. I have no problem at all trading a prospect. He may be great, he may never play in big leagues. I see nothing wrong with trading a young unknown and inexperienced high school prospect for a proven major league starter. Good job Twins!- 159 replies

Assessing the Twins Garver for Kiner-Falefa Trade
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm ambivalent about the trade. I guess time will tell. It does kind of show a pattern going on for the year. That is we don't care about fielding a major league team in 2022. It also shows that we are probably seeing a significant payroll dump in progress. Garver, although not perfect by any means, was a veteran presence behind the plate. It's a little ironic that while depending on unproven and inexperienced young arms we trade away the only real veteran catcher we had to help settle in these pitchers. I also find it almost amusing that people say Garver was injured too much so it's good to get rid of him. The same and more could be said of Buxton yet people call him a superstar though he seldom plays. This year I think Buxton plays a whole year but will be a huge disappointment at the plate. Most notable national publications are calling the twins pitching staff a joke at this point. But will be embarrassing if these pitchers are all we have this year. I think the FO is making a statement on a rebuild. I just hope it doesn't last for years like the previous ones.- 57 replies

Great to be back to Twins Baseball!! I am most interested to see what the FO does to the roster in such a short time. I would expect them to add a veteran or two to the starting rotation. To go into the season with minor league pitchers and Bundy as your rotation would be foolish and disastorus. I'm excited to see what we will add. Go Twins!

MLB and MLBPA Reach Agreement
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm glad it's settled!! However the process has left a very bad taste in my mouth. MLB and the Twins in particular are going to have to earn back interest from the fans that are sceptical. Do the owners and players really care about the fans? Prove it. Are the Twins going to attempt to put a major league product on the field? Are the Twins really going to settle in at a payroll around $88 million as reported elsewhere? I'm very happy to have baseball back. I hope the Twins Front office is too. -
The Lockout Diaries: Week 14
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Such a sad state of affairs! Players and owners bickering over money that most sane people drool over. I've been a longtime twins and MLB fan but am very disgusted about the direction of these negotiations and baseball in general. I never thought I would say this but I'm getting to the point that I don't care if they come back. Now granted at some point they will agree and baseball will return. But at what cost? Will the greedy owners and players only be concerned about lining their pockets and not care about the state of the game itself? Or will the real cost be alienating an already fragile and declining fan base. It appears they don't really don't care about the game or it's fans. -
What Impact Does Missed Baseball Have?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Love all the comments and well thought out and researched ideas out there. I agree with all of the views. My view is not very analytical ( I hate it in baseball. It's ruining the game) it just always seems the fans are left out in the cold. I've followed MLB for nearly 60 years and the last several years the game has become unwatchable. It's like watching a giant video game. Bring back the game we all used to love. I found many other things to do in the covid shortened year in 2020. They will resume play at some point. How many more fans will they alienate and turn away from the game? It's obvious neither the players or owners care. That's the fatal flaw here. It could be disastorus. -
Second Deadline Passes, Still No Deal
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While I will find other endeavors while this ridiculous lockout continues I am totally frustrated with MLB and PLayers Association. Owners claiming "poverty " over the past 5 years is ludicrous. If your franchise isn't profitable or lining your greedy pockets enough, sell it. Players, who in my opinion have the best CBA and working conditions of the 4 major sports, don't like their working conditions and are claiming " poverty " get a different career. Go out and get a real job. We have a joke for a commissioner, and a joke of a players union. The real folly is that both sides seem to think we cannot exist without their sport. Your fan base has been dwindling for years and tv ratings continue to drop. The game, with all it's new rules defensive shifting and overdone analytical approach to the game has already made it unwatchable. -
It's ridiculous. If the owners aren't making enough (absurd) then they should sell their franchises. They don't sell because they know they are too valuable. If the players don't feel like they are making enough money or don't like their working conditions get a different job there is plenty out there. We know that won't happen, they already have the best CBA in sports. The game has become unwatchable as it is. The time is now to work together quickly to resolve this situation. Then maybe they can fix the game and return it to a watchable game at an affordable price.

The Lockout Diaries: Week 12
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great comments Nick. I am already sick and tired of this public bickering on how to split billions in revenue. MLB has been in trouble for the past few years with lower attendance and tv viewership. Not to mention the mockery this once great game has become. To lose any regular season games shows me that neither side realizes, or cares, about how very fragile their diminishing fan base is. I for one anyway is just about done with MLB. After 60 years of proudly supporting MLB there is not much more left of the once heralded " grand old game" -
VIDEO: 2022 Top Prospects: #1 Austin Martin
Whitey333 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Well let's see how he does in the majors as a regular everyday player. I agree he has potential. Probably the best potential of all the over- hyped prospects we have. I hope it works out. These people need to show some results. Potential:. That's been the Twins theme for years. That's all they have to sell anymore. -
Twins Trading Offers Exciting Opportunity
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wow what a dismal year this may turn out to be. If the Twins don't make any significant upgrades to their pitching staff it's likely to be 90-100 losses again. Hope at least a couple of these great prospects turn out to be solid major league pitchers. If not it could be a long year and long few years of rebuilding again.- 19 replies

The Twins Rotation Isn’t That Far From Fixing
Whitey333 replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins are in a world of hurt if this is a "fix". The Twins live on pipe dreams, prospects, has been, and what if players for years. And year after year most fans fall for it and accept it. Our beloved owner was one of the owners that unanimously decided to turn their back on their dwindling fan base and initiate a work stoppage! Why do we support such nonsense in the first place?- 36 replies

The Lockout Diaries: Week 11
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This work stoppage is a big slap in the face to MLB fans. It's disgraceful given these difficult times while people are dealing with pandemic and economic hardships. I've been a fan for 60 years but am very close to giving up on the game. The state of the game has become a joke as rule changes and over analytics has made the game unwatchable. Now greedy owners and players are only concerned about how best to line their collective pockets. The fans? Well it's time we start realizing that they don't care about them; only how they can squeeze more money out of what has turned into a large video game:. Major League Baseball. -
I agree that fans, as always, are ignored when it comes to these negotiations. What is good for the future of the game should be most important. Not who " wins or loses" the CBA negotiations. I don't side with either players or owners. They are both wrong. Any work stoppage while normal working class Americans have been trying to survive a pandemic and economic crisis is short sighted and playing Russian roulette with the fans and future of MLB. Instead they should be looking at what has ruined the game the past 5 years. What has made it unwatchable and approaching unaffordable and fix it before it is beyond repair.

Twins Sign Shortstop Tim Beckham
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Beckham? He hasn't been in the majors since 2019. Not even worthy of taking up a roster spot in St. Paul. OH PLEASE. -
Kenta Maeda On Track For 2022 Return
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've been to Ft. Myers a few times and it was a great time. The atmosphere was awesome and the game experience top notch. I was going to plan on driving down this year again but the lockout happened. It's hard to get excited about MLB right now with owners and players squabbling over how to split billions in revenue. I hope they settle soon. -
Twins Add RHP Brandon Lawson on Minor League Deal
Whitey333 replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope he does well and is able to reach his dream of pitching in the majors. However this is just another in a long list of bargain basement signings. -
I agree with your assessment on the current state of MLB. We have players and owners too greedy, arrogant, and selfish to even think about what's best for the game. I've been watching the demise of what was once a great game. It's become unwatchable. Now players and owners are squabbling over billions in revenues. Any elimination of games will only further alienate a shrinking fan base.
-
We will have to wait and see what happens. My guess is that they will do like they normally do in waiting until the very end so they can sign the leftovers none else wants. At this point how anyone can say we have a solid core must not have watched them play last year. I hope once the lockout ends the Twins will sign someone of significance for the team especially the pitching staff that is not major league ready. Plus we have a question at shortstop and outfield. As I recall we finished last in the central last year and did really nothing before the lockout while several teams made moves. This to me solidifies the plans to add leftovers, roll the dice and hope for the best. I think this is a big year for the FO. They need to show they know what they are doing and get the team back on track

If Selig Is In, They Should All Get In
Whitey333 replied to Dave Overlund's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I totally disagree with most of the article. I always find it interesting that people like to rewrite/ reexamine history with a brush of forgiveness/ ignorance. The fact that those juiced up players broke records is farcical. It is also a total injustice to the vast majority of hall of famers that the cheaters would get in with the greats that followed the rules and didn't cheat. Anyone that watched McGuire, Sosa, and others like Bonds, knew then just by looking at them that they were on something and any breaking of records was a joke and a slap in the face to those greats that play by the rules. Selig was a joke. You are right he should not be in the Hall of Fame either. -
Great article. Well thought out. The best solution for me would be to sign a FA shortstop in the moderate price range. So at this point we Dont have a shortstop, not sure at second base at least defensively. Oh yeah we also don't have a major league pitching staff. Add that into a very good center fielder that plays less than half the games over a 7 year career, and it potentially points to a disastorus 2022 season, if there is one. Not much at this point to get too excited about.
-
It seems to me that the owners and manless Manfred, are playing a very dangerous game of "Russian roulette " with the future of MLB. The game is already being ruined by new rules and analytics that make the on field product look like an amateur video game. The fact that it took them so long to make a proposal shows they have no interest in reaching a meaningful settlement. I am so sick and tired of MLB and the players union taking fans for granted. If any games are lost due to this ridiculous stoppage it can only alienate an already shrinking fan base.
-
This work stoppage sucks! It's a joke! It's a slap in the face to the people that support MLB. Manfred is a joke and the worst commissioner I have seen in over 50 years of me following MLB. It's a sad case of greed by both sides. A time of peril the past couple of years in our country dealing with a pandemic. And these people have the gall to think they are more important than the rest of us? Please! Owners:. If your franchises are so poor, sell them. They have the highest value ever, many stadiums supported by tax payer dollars. Players:. If your working conditions are so tough, find a real job. There's plenty of openings out there. You live in a fantasy world. You already had the best player counteract of all sports. Too bad nobody speaks up for the fans. Maybe there won't be too many left if this stoppage cancels part or all of the season.

The Case Against the Twins Trading Luis Arraez
Whitey333 replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love arraez but you totally blew credibility by comparing him to Rod Carew. There is very little depth at this point. That could change IF the young talent in minors progresses well. To rely on several players with little or no major league experience with a non existent major league starting pitching staff could be a disaster. I wonder how long it will take for people to complain about the team when they are out of contention by the end of the first month. While a team littered with prospects could surprise and contend it is much more likely looking at a 90 loss season unless they add some veterans to a pitching staff that is currently minor league. -
Top 5 Derek Falvey Twins Moves
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
TD sure overplays Buxton and these great prospects we got from Rays for Cruz. How can anyone at this point call Buxton a generational player when he's only played about 45% of games in 7 years. I will give you he's a great center fielder and over the last couple of years shows flashes of his potential but a part time player is NOT a generational player. As for all these great prospects you tout as being steals for the Twins, the jury is still out. I hope they pan out but I would contend maybe 1 or 2 will and that's a maybe.- 19 replies
