  1. I thought Vazquez was bringing the clubhouse leadership in lieu of Correa. From a performance standpoint I'd rather they sign Andrus as he could add more from a batting standpoint.
  2. What if the Twins new strategy is to buy high and short? They paid CC high AAV for the short-tern. They got his services and then got all that financial flexibility back when he left. If the Twins offer Rodon and Swanson 3 years or less with opt outs at a much higher AAV than other teams are offering, those two might just take it assuming they could get another payday in a few years. That would also reintroduce that financial flexibility back to the Twins when one or both of those guys opt out or reach the end of their deal. It's a strategy of not ever investing in the sickening long-term monstrous high-risk deals. If they misjudge, then the hurt is not for near as long. If they used this strategy, the down side is high turnover and less investment by fans due to that. The plus side is they get FA's to come and hopefully with a few each year, combined with upcoming prospects, they could remain competitive over time. What do you all think of this approach?
  3. If these three perform well why would they extend mid-season when they would be a few months from FA? Mostly after seeing what pitching cost this off-season. If they do perform, the Twins will not be able to get them at those numbers IMHO.
  4. They bought time. Now, draft a good one and groom him for 3-years and then we will have a nice young tandem.
  5. Some of the planned game improvements may help. Anything to speed up the game may make it more enjoyable to be in the park and would help attract a younger audience. My sons and wife cannot even watch two innings as it is just too boring for them. Playing fundamentally better baseball would also help. We all have been asking for this but it never transpires. Make the games fun again. I joked about bringing in the Saints pig but without making it a s**tshow there should be something that can be done. Get the games back on TV. I follow them regardless, but the casual fan has no way to see the games hence, little to no interest. If they could watch the games they would be invested and maybe even come to a few games. Lastly, as we all know winning always brings them back.
  6. Maybe they go the other way and have Jeffers utilize Vasquez's method since he is the better at catching base stealers.
  7. Not sure where you stood on a deadline in that other thread a week or so back Brock, but I mentioned in that thread that a deadline should be set and lots of folks said that we should never do that as we can and should do BOTH (pursuing CC and signing others) at the same time. I highly doubted that logic as I felt due to the large $ that CC needed, we were hamstrung until he made his decision. I'm just glad he made it now and did not wait until January. I do still like this FO and believe we should at least wait until early February before criticizing their off-season moves.
  8. Last year we signed CC for high AAV and knew he'd opt out. We were hoping that he would bridge the year we needed to get Lewis ready. If we are competing with other teams on Swanson, why not go the same route and offer a high AAV to Swanson knowing he may opt out after one year since next year's FA SS candidates is weak and he can get his big payday like CC did. It would again buy us some time to get Lewis up to speed for 2024. It also would get a solid bat into the lineup for 2023 which many on this thread are suggesting is needed. It worked for CC. Maybe it will work for Swanson AND the Twins. Just a thought.
  9. As Boras might say, time for the Twins to head the boat into shore from the deep sea and setup a fish house on a MN lake. Just saw the article this AM and am already over this and excited for the next step in the process.
  10. Yes, if we miss out on CC we should explore Swanson. He would/should be cheaper and although you mention several differences between the two Cody, you left out that Swanson can steal bases where CC cannot. I don't think we should be disappointed if we get Swanson.
  11. I’m not against signing a FA. I love the 3 year offer to Vasquez.. I just am not a fan of the 10-13 year mega offers due to the impact to the payroll long-term. Look at players like Price who essentially is being paid big bucks at the end of his contract for little to nothing.
  12. I like this signing. Just what we needed. Did the Sox give him a QO? If so, what pick do we lose?
  13. And we have money THIS YEAR. Does not mean we will have it in 10+ years when we have had to sign Arreaz, Lewis, Kirilloff, etc.
  14. I respectfully disagree. Yeah, they offered Vazquez a contract but I suspect it was a low ball number assuming that they have to pay CC millions. If they give CC a deadline and he moves on from the Twins, then they can bring their offer to Vazquez up to a more appropriate level. It's just like our home budget. If we purchase a new furnace, then we probably cannot upgrade our car. I.e. one decision impacts the other decisions is all that I am saying. They are not done independently of each other when there is limited resources available.
  15. Good point, but I think it's all about what percentage of the payroll one player gets. That impacts what is left to build around him. I say this knowing that the Twins will only spend so much on payroll as related to revenue. They signed Joe Mauer to a boat load only to not have the funds to build around him with any impacting FA's. We wasted his time here. I get that over time, CC's AAV will be a less percentage of the payroll, but I feel that the same thing that happened with Mauer may happen with CC and for that reason, I hope that they go a different direction.
  16. I like this trade but as always, it depends how much we give up. It may be a good fall back option when we do not get CC.
  17. Don't trade Kep just to trade him. If the Twins do not get a good return, then keep him and if he is not part of our long-term plans, trade him at the deadline. Would the Marlins be a good trade partner for him? I keep hearing that they need hitters.
  18. I cannot accept helping the Yankees out of their mistake contracts even if it helps the Twins in the long run. I’d puke each time those batters came to the plate. I commend you for your outside the box thinking but this is a BIG NO in my opinion.
  19. I’m not liking how wide the gap between the haves and have nots has grown. How many teams realistically can even sign any of these big FA’s? From a player-perspective, don’t let the top end guys be involved so heavily in the negotiations as they leave out the lower tier guys. From an owner-perspective, adopt the NFL model. It’s fair for all markets while still making a ton of money for the owners.
  20. I swear, if the Yankees sign Correa, it might just be enough to push me away for good. You will never abandon BB. I can tell by your post that you are hopelessly in love with the sport like most of the rest of us on this site and will live with the pain for the amount of enjoyment, no matter how small, that we receive.
  21. Time to move on from CC to pitching and catching. We are out of our league here.
  22. Although you list three great candidates Cody, my breakout candidate is Louie Varland.
  23. Do I think he has peaked? Yes from a health-perspective. No from a performance-perspective. If he can stay healthy, then he is gold. If he cannot, then he has little value. The underlying reason you trade him now is his overall value is high and you feel he will degrade health-wise in the near future. The reason you do not trade him is you feel he will be healthy for years and continue to maintain his performance on the ball field. Time for that new team doctor/trainer to review Luis's medicals and provide the FO with the answer so that they can make the correct call.
