  1. Maybe since we are flush with cash we pay for a good portion of Kep's salary to entice them. We pay in $ + Kep and they pay in pitching quality.
  2. I recall Steinbrenner getting into this situation. He'd always spend tons of $ on FA's and prospect capital on trades for veterans only to have an empty farm system. Over the years, they have balanced this out to where Cashman maintains the flow of prospects while signing key FA's like Judge and Cole. I agree that SD may fall into this trap and end up with high-priced aging vets and little to no prospects to fill the gaps. The proof will be in the pudding in a few years.
  3. I like where this is going. Trade with a team in the Marlins which have SP'ing depth. It seems that they have several targets other than Lopez. I'd hate to see Arraez go, but you have to give to get so I'd be on board. I like the suggestion of Arraez and Kepler for him so we can retain our upcoming prospects. I just hope that if the Twins do swing a trade, that the new trainer does a good job of evaluating our return so we are not acquiring a Tommy John candidate.
  4. This may be a good option at some point in this process. I like his stuff but his age and length of contract (I've read he is asking for, or possibly been offered, 7 years) is not attractive. But we may need to take the risk for the reward. If they could get him on a good base, but incentive-laden contract then a Kikuchi outcome is not as painful, but a Darvish outcome would be a big win.
  5. Brock, I don't ever recall Max coming out and saying that he does not want to play CF. He may have said something like... I enjoy RF better, but I don't specifically recall exactly what he said. I assumed that Rocco just felt he was our best RF, especially with the Target Field configuration there, not so much that he demanded to not play CF. Where did that come from?
  6. Several posts mention him being a valuable backup to BB in CF. How many times did he play CF last season when BB was out? The Twins just do not play him there so that is NOT a reason to keep him. I also take exception to those mentioning that he should not bat above 7th in the batting order. Their lineup was so thin who should have been there instead of Kepler? Cave? Celestino? The team was so decimated by injuries that they were forced to put him up there. I say if you can get a good return of MLB talent, go ahead and trade him. If not, then keep him until the trade deadline at minimum to see if the non-shift rule helps increase his value.
  7. Yes in that there may be nobody else to pivot to. If others start falling off the board, they should give him a deadline.
  8. Isn’t their Bally contract up? If so, then whatever their new rights deal is contributes to what the payroll is. I didn’t care for the comment regarding lower fan interest last year. I think they should spend just enough to put a good product on the field. If the FO builds it, they will come Ray.
  9. I think this decreases our chances as the Mets will now spend big. Look for other options. No sense being in a bidding war with them.
  10. I do not recall him having surgery. Everything I heard was that the Twins never really did identify what was causing his arm issues. If I am mistaken, please correct me and send a link to an article on his surgery if you can. As for being an ace, I think he has the potential to be OUR ace but not a true ace in terms of baseball overall. I rank him as a #2 if healthy (similar to Barrieos) and think we have a bunch of #2 & #3 pitchers now and I am happy with that. Sometimes depth is better than say a clear ace and a bunch of #4 & #5 pitchers.
  11. Your list does not include the potential of Lewis (should the Twins sign a top-4 FA SS) and Martin after his nice AFL showing. I am on board with trading Max and signing a LF FA hitting corner OF assuming that we need to get more right-handed at the corners. I like our current corner OF's in the following order assuming no trades and good health... Gordon Kirilloff Larnach Kepler Lewis (assuming not our SS) Wallner Martin (assuming his bat is ready and is not needed in the IF w/the Farmer add. Garlick I left off Celestino as I see him only as a CF backup to BB.
  12. I like following them all year long. I love Spring for the hope that it brings and to see how the off-season acquisitions fit in. I love the core of the season for the pure enjoyment of baseball. Win or lose I get enjoyment out of each and every game. I love fall baseball as races heat up and scoreboard watching takes place even if the Twins are out of it. If the Twins are out of the race, I still enjoy seeing the fall call-ups perform and assess, in my mind, how they may pan out next season. I love this time of year also as I wait daily for news of new acquisitions to get me excited for next season. I guess overall, I am a baseball-lover an hopelessly dedicated to this game.
  13. Isn't our break glass in emergency guy now Farmer? That also is a plus in that they do not have to send him down when not functioning as a catcher.
  14. Didn't the Twins just draft a LH starter phenom (Connor Prielipp) that according to reports will move up through the organization rather quickly? I think he will become their highest-ranked LHP real soon. He won't be ready this year but possibly in 2024.
  15. They wouldn't be doing their job if they have not yet checked in with Pittsburgh and all other teams.
  16. I hope that the Twins can get him on an affordable contract, but highly doubt that is possible with the Dodgers interest in him. They need to be careful not to be drawn into a massive overpay after the Dodgers jack up his price. I trust the FO here as this type of bidding process is typically not the MO.
  17. BIG decision for this FO. Do they keep grooming Jeffers and add a platoon player or go big with a trade or a Contreras signing? That decision will tell us a lot about what they think of Jeffers. I also noticed a comment in a different thread regarding Rule 5 catchers. Could we snatch one there that would be acceptable to platoon with Jeffers? Maybe one who has a long-term future also. I would include that in the equation.
  18. If he gets fully healed this winter one can only hope that that, plus good coaching, helps his mechanics improve to the point that he becomes the dominant pitcher that we all know he can be. Good luck to you Jordan.
  19. I agree with most on this post that we do not need to be in a hurry with him. I doubt he'd take that anyway when pitchers of his caliber in FA are making like 20MM AAV and with salaries going up, he may be vastly underpaid the last few years of his contract. That said, I also could see it going the other way given his age when FA hits. Tough call on his end.
  20. Good article Nick. I can't see the Twins going that many years at that total value. I think that they are OK with a high AAV for a shorter number of years because they value that flexibility. I'd be concerned that when FA hit for our up and coming players that we may not be able to offer a competitive salary to retain them and end up with any aging Correa and always having to supplement that with minimum salaried players. That said, I would not be totally disappointed with this offer in the short term, just not the long-term.
  21. Wow, can we at least let him settle into his new role for a week before the hammering starts? Nothing like judging him before even the offseason is barely started. The Pohlads have a mid-market team with a mid-market payroll. Why are some never satisfied. Sorry, but I just don't get it.
  22. I believe that they may be waiting for Toronto to field all offers and make a decision for the catcher they decide to trade before coming back to Narváez.
  23. I would say no on him at this point in his career, and at this point where the Twins have several younger guys that need at-bats.
