  1. Yes, perhaps going cheap and hiring the more inexperienced candidate to run the FO wasn't such a genius move to begin with.
  2. If you can't trust 60% of your rotation to give you 5 innings, there are much bigger issues to be solved. Too bad we shipped off a guy like Meyer for no reason, he would actually be a guy I would like to see compete for the 5th spot this year.
  3. Most damning of all is that in addition to not improving the 2017 team in any meaningful manner (Castro over Suzuki is maybe one win best case scenario) they also managed to NOT improve this team for the 2018-2020 seasons. By failing to trade any of Dozier, Santana etc or anyone really they have managed to more or less improve zilch overall. Not Good
  4. That's not fair to gardy. Gardy was a great manager during his time here. It is clear that Gardy wasn't the main issue with the Twins, it was FO. Hiring a worse manager (Molitor) only compounds the problem IMO
  5. Fwiw: Danny Santana has -2.1 WAR over his last 160 games. That's not value, that's the opposite of value.
  6. Santana literally has been one of the worst 5 players in baseball over the past couple years. He is a bad baseball player who absolutely should not be on a rebuilding team. He should be AAA depth at this stage of his career. His 2014 was fueled by a .405 BABIP that's not going to happen again, it's time to move on from D San. I wish him the best, and im sure he will bounce around the league for a bit, but there is zero reason why this club should have him on the roster. Grossman had a high ObP, but it was driven largely by a .364 BABIP. I think he's a solid player, but definitely not someone you want as a DH.
  7. They already have 4 OF who can play CF (or any other position) Escobar can be the the super utility guy. Sano, Polanco and Dozier need to be playing 150 games this year anyways. Ditto with a Kepler, Buxton and Rosario. Santana is pointless at this stage. Esp with a short bench. They would be much much much better served having Park on the roster instead. 13 pitchers to start the season once again is nonsense. It's not like you have to worry about guys getting fatigued etc and there seem to be a bunch of random Off days early in the season anyways. Grossman should be a 4th OF, not a DH. His numbers won't justify it (unless he keeps up a .364 BABIP) what else did Park need to do to earn a spot??
  8. It's almost like they are begging fans not to care and are trying to lose another 100+ Park going to the minors is the most baffling, wtf? Danny Santana has no real purpose being on the roster and starting the season with 13 pitchers is unheard of. Does this team have any idea, plan or clue on what they are doing?
  9. Re: molitor, it still blows my mind that the new GM and FO were FORCED to retain a manager who is coming off a 103 loss season and has done zero as a major league manager to make us think he is even average or good.
  10. I'd rather not have the choice be between Wimmers or Tonkin. Which indicates to me a massive failure by the FO
  11. Tonkin much like slowey before him is the quintessential AAAA pitcher. It's time for the Twins to move on.
  12. Ah ok got it. I mean typically though these deals involve multiple prospects to sort of even out the chances of at least one or two panning out. Anyways, hopefully Dozier can mash and we can get a haul eventually!
  13. The odds of getting a good pitcher back is one in six? For a 5+ WAR 2nd baseman with two years left on a small contract? Not sure I agree with your police work there norm....
  14. Yeah when the 2nd "best" thing they did was not let a 39 year old Volgesong "win" a rotation spot out of ST.....you know that the Off season was an objective failure.
  15. Words are nice, actions are better. I will believe it when I see it (aka a roster that actually can win 75 games)
  16. Romero still has a looonnnng ways to go before I feel confident in penciling him into any future rotation. He hasn't even pitched 180 innings TOTAL since he joined the system 5 years ago. This is why it really sucks to lose ANY potential front end SP types like Jay, we went from 3 or 4 guys that had front end potential to just 2 or 3 now. Not. Good.
  17. We for some reason decided to give up Alex Meyer for Santiago (and still sent over a boatload of money) Having Alex Meyer still in the system would have added SP depth, and actually would have been SP depth that could help this team for more than just one year of overpaying a guy like Santiago.
  18. The thing that concerns me the most is the Twins have a terrible MLB team (last place 5 of last 6 years) and a pretty "meh" farm system. The last time we saw ineptitude across the board like this it took damn near a full decade for the Twins to become contenders again. So yes, losing Jay, one of the very very very very very very very few guys who appeared to be something more than a back end rotation guy in this entire org (including MLB team) is concerning to me.
  19. If he didn't have the "stuff" to potentially be a #1/#2 SP, why on earth would you spend the 6th pick in the draft on him to begin with? Also if they drafted him knowing this was going to be the likely outcome (a RP) then it's one of the worst decisions in recent draft history. Also his numbers and "look" last year in A+ was pretty solid overall (2.85 ERA in 13 starts, 8.8 k/9 etc) sorry that's pretty good, even for a college pitcher I wish we had more guys putting up those numbers that you would just consider "ok". Just seems so counterproductive to move him off of SP already...unless they knew this was going to happen the entire time?
