  1. I'm rooting for Theilbar to end up with at least 500-600 games pitched when he retires. that's 4-5 more seasons of 60-70 appearances per season.
  2. This move is fine as either a 1- or 2-year deal. We have 3 free agent starters next offseason. While it would be nice to keep one of the three it's not likely if they have good seasons. I think Wacha can be a serviceable starter. They should pay him more off of his FIP then ERA. But a 2 year 24-30 million won't break the bank. I don't really see the need for another starter as we already have 5 maybe 6 starters for next season (Gray, Ryan, Mahle, Ober, Maeda maybe Winder), other than to give our prospects more time to develop and have more depth. Of SWR, Varland, Balazovich, Winder, Ober, and Paddack, we need at least 2 of these guys to be established as a rotation arm by next season. preferably 3. Hopefully Prielipp will be close to MLB ready after next season as well. Hopefully he is in AA at the end of the season.
  3. I thought it might be fun for the community to come together to help one of the Twins Pitchers. (Josh Winder, Trevor Megill, Pagan, or Lopez) become the pitcher he was meant to be. For us to do that we need members to post scouting reports, pitching repertoire, heat maps, and videos, and more below and discuss how we as a community would fix this pitcher to make him better. Whether you want to remove an ineffective pitch from his arsenal, add a pitch, change pitch use patterns, is he tipping pitches, or does he need to overhaul his delivery. Back it up with stats, and videos and stuff. Let’s really dive in and help a pitcher get back on track. For a few ideas, here are some after adjustment articles written by Parker Hageman and Nick Nelson. Let’s be the ones to help a pitcher figure it out with suggestions below for a change instead of waiting for management to try and we read another story that happened without our input. How The Twins May Have Contributed To Jorge López's No Good Very Bad Stretch - Twins - Twins Daily by Parker Hageman Or Let's Talk About Emilio Pagán - Page 2 - Twins - Twins Daily by Nick Nelson Lets get this started by figuring out who needs our advice the most. These 4 pitchers are still with the team and had the least success. 1. Jorge Lopez, 2. Emilio Pagan, 3. Josh Winder, 4. Trevor Megill
  4. This is a more normal offseason move for the Twins. We still need to sign fellow minor league contractor Minaya. But at least Coloumbe is more left handed of the two if we can only afford one of them in this crazy offseason.
  5. I would like to see pics of Correa in uniform for each of these teams/ Waffle House/ Fellowship of the Ring…..
  6. I didn’t mean right this minute but in the next year or two before they hit arbitration maybe Miranda, Ryan, Jeffers, I would do a 3-4 year extension with Arreaz now with an option year or two. Killeroff if he has a strong bounce back season. I would probably wait to see Lewis healthy the rest of this season and all of next before approaching him….
  7. Either all 5 for the Twins since I follow them the most. I could be fine with 1 of them going to the Vikings. The Timberwolves need to relocate so there is more entertainment money for the Twins to help them get to 4 or 5 World Series Titles.
  8. Hopefully we start signing some of these younger guys to long term contracts like Atlanta has done. They have a great core in the starting lineup and they are locked up for the next 5+ years.
  9. I still think adding an 11th year at 20 million is not too bad. Inflation at 7% will half that in terms of value by then. If it gets the deal done…of course medical are the issue maybe make the last year contingent on one of a few scenarios 1. Pass a physical. 2. Get 400 plate appearances in year 10 or 850 in years 9&10. 3. Maybe have a 10 million buyout for the 11th year as well. Adding an opt out after year 5 or 6 if we need to be creative. I do think the Twins can get back in this. I think they should since they don’t really have a great option there. If they sign him and a solid bullpen arm it would be a successful offseason for the Twins. This would set the Twins up well in negotiations for the new TV contract. Payroll needs to go up with 14 teams over 200 million in payroll. We should at least be in the 160 million range.
  10. according to this article https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/which-teams-are-slated-to-pay-the-luxury-tax-in-2023.html There are 14 teams over $200 million in payroll for next season. I hope there is a lot of penalties for exceeding the threshold going to lower revenue teams and that they are going to spend the money on their teams so they can keep up. This makes the Twins budget so small in comparison. There is a growing divide between teams that have means and don't. At this rate the small market teams are basically farm teams for the big market teams. I wonder if this will prevent other cities from entertaining the idea of a relocation or expansion teams if new teams get added if they know from the get go that they wont be able to compete financially with the big market teams.
  11. Being 41% better than the average player is typically an All Star. That was his end of season numbers.
  12. Bassit and maybe Contreras are the two we missed out on. Though The Catcher we did sign will be a good value too.
  13. I think the other owners chimed in and said something to him along the lines of we will make sure no one goes above a certain spending amount in the next CBA if your going to spend like this. Also the Mets are probably thinking about 12 years down the road or even 8 or 9 and wondering how Correa will hold up. I think Correa can play another 10 years but I bet the last 3 won’t be all star caliber play.
  14. This explains the recent trade rumors for Kepler, Gray, Meada, and Arreaz. The first three have a year before free agency with Arreaz having 3. The Twins probably don’t want to offer Arreaz a long term deal with his knees. We probably get a starter back in the trade that has more than 1 year of control left. We rebuild in 2023 and come out strong in 2024. I doubt teams will continue to go crazy next offseason ….. then again….. with these trades our payroll going into 2024 & 2025 should be pretty low giving us plenty of ability to sign free agents.
  15. There’s a good fit for Escobar in. Boston as Story slides over to SS from a now open 2B.
  16. Orel Hershiser and Kirk Gibson. Hershiser outhit the bash brothers (Canseco and McGuire) combined in the 88 World Series plus he was a great pitcher on crappy offense teams. Kirk Gibsons HR while injured was fun too. And the hit a lot of HRs and stole a lot of bases too. Nick Punto. We need to create a hall of fame category for utility players and we start by adding Punto. Pierzinski, 2000 hits as a C is noteworthy. Carlos Beltran cause he is keeping Tori’s Hunter out of the Hall of Fame cause he was a better hitter and probably fielder as well. Bobby Abreau almost 2500 hits over 900 XBH and 400 on the dot SB. Jeff Reardon Torii Hunter if he played 2 more seasons to help his counting stats with 700-800 more plate appearances. He could have made it to 1525 RBI and no one who isn’t associated with steroids isn’t in at that point. we should put together a list or do a vote within the community with everyone’s suggestion to create our almost Hall of Fame. The Twins Daily almost Hall of Fame. This would also be a great way to drive traffic to the site…..
  17. A lot of those guys were drafted under Terry Ryan. Too bad he didn’t stay to help them continue to draft good players. He was really needed in 2020.
  18. JD Martinez signed with the Dodgers for 10 million. He would do more for our offense I think. Gallo will have 30-40 useful hits and that’s about it on offense. We could use more professional hitters on this team.
  19. The team entered the offseason with few holes and a solid floor at most positions. A C and SS are needed. We got a solid C. Not sure why we signed Gallo for 11 million….. but anyways we can find a good floor SS maybe Andrus or god forbid we sign Swanson. I wonder if we are closing in on a trade with Miami involving Kepler and Lopez as part of the trade ….. anyways back on point. The key for next season is better health. We just need a SS and some tweaks for next season. Yes we lost out on CC and 285 million was a low offer. 10/300 should have been the offer at minimum but the Twins did say from the beginning that they wouldn’t be the highest bidder. With opt outs and what not may have given Correa protection against inflation running rampant. I think the Twins were competitive till SF got desperate. They were likely told Correa was about to sign with the Twins …. I wonder if Minnesota offered 10/305 or 310 if he would have signed a while back…. anyway the point is the Twins have a competitive roster if and it’s a big if they are mostly healthy. So they are not going backwards.
  20. We have 3 free agent starting pitchers next offseason. I imagine the Twins considered signing a starter to a 2 year or longer contract and then trading a starter. Maybe not making us better in 2023 but a more secure 2024. And we get prospects back in a trade more than likely which helps balance out the prospects we traded last year a little. Gray could potentially net us something good as he is a good pitcher. Pitching isn’t cheap and the Twins could just be gauging the market to see what is available.
  21. I guess cheap power in a power depressed environment. Though why not get JD Martinez?
  22. It may have been an unspoken part of the agreement that the Twins would help Correa rebuild his reputation and say good things about him to help drive up his value. The fact that the Twins did offer 285 million is significant. That was a nice floor for Correa but that offer should have been 20 million higher. But 350 million is something the Twins were right to stay away from. I think Correa did enjoy playing in Minnesota. I also think he would have been happy to resign here. But he also wanted the money. There are too many teams with blank slates right now. This doesn’t seem to be the year to be in free agency. I don’t know if I would pursue Swanson all that much. The only reason would be to trade him after the first season when in house replacements are ready. Lee may be a downgrade on defense but not likely with the bat. I think a pivot to Elvis Andrus makes more sense to me. Trade for a starter and Keep Kepler and sign a high end reliever. Maybe Eovaldi instead of trading for a starter. Nick check your math …65 million not 80 million for ages 39, 40, 41 seasons. Cabrera’s production at those years says ? Hi.
  23. The Twins could have gone to 11 years and 305-310 but going beyond that was too much. The Giants lost out on several players and had to make something happen. This move for them reeks of desperation and hope for high inflation to lower that contract in the last 3-5 years. Also we should go get Elvis Andrus on a 1 or 2 year deal. I don’t want Swanson at more than 8/160. I am fine with waiting on LEwis/Lee at SS.
