    Seems like the Twins Bench is under appreciated. Gordon is my top choice. Many here were expecting him to be DFA’d. Garlick, Celestino, Urshala, Sanchez ( His ever so slightly above average defense is light years ahead of expectations). Bundy is probably 2nd on this list. He may be valuable enough to pick up his option at the end of the season the way he is going. Bill Tanner has a good point on Cave. He is not as high though because of time in majors is too limited. But he does make the list.

    My 5th starter picks in order. Winder Sanchez Ober Varland Smeltzer Archer Woods-Richardson I think Archer should finish the year in the pen. I would like to know if he would be good there for the playoffs. Pagan is not going anywhere so if the Twins have an extra pitcher then we should have Moran then Peacock then Cotton

    I give TwinsDr2021 a pass as I would look at Varland and see the same thing at first glance. The explanation above clears that up and I am a believer in Varland.

    Riverbain how many spring training stadiums have you been to? Where would the Twins Fort Myers rank on this list? Also I live near Anaheim and I don’t see how it ranks higher than Rockies stadium. Granted I went there when it was a new stadium. It was a way better experience then Angels stadium. Well there was a Twins game at Angels Stadium where the Twins hit 8 homers. That was fun….. Also the appeal at Angels stadium is seein all the former great Twins on the Stadium Walls….. Carew, Hunter, Dean Chance, Bert Blylevin among others…

    It’s Always Something ! At least that’s my motto. Always Somebody injured, Always somebody ineffective, Always someone going backwards, Always next year……Always Something! with that said developing players is a numbers game. That’s why we need lots of prospects. Having prospects like Lee is nice but really we need 10-15 solid prospects to develop 2-3 players a season. Players don’t make it for a variety of reasons including injury, too much of a grind, lack of talent, coaching, and so many more. As long as we are continuing to develop players at 2-3 per year to the majors….

    This was a fun post with fun to read comments. Keep it coming. And I think Bundy has done a better than expected job. I would be fine if he is here next season. I would be surprised if his option is picked up. But not too surprised. I think a 1 year 8-9 million is right for him. That is close enough to 1 million the Twins might just pick up his option.

    I don’t think it will hurt that much. There is lots of money from tv and internet broadcasting.

    The Twins have plenty of budget to afford Correa on a long term deal. I am sure the AAV on a deal now is closer to 25 million then 35 million. Correa may even not opt out to get 35 million and try to build back more value. Will be fun to watch unfold. Overall there is not much to do on the roster besides health, development, a bullpen arm, maybe a top end starter, finding a good prospect we can get in a Kepler trade. (I only except this if we keep Correa). And most importantly a 2nd C to platoon with Jeffers. If we don’t sign or get a top end starter no worries we have Varland and Richardson-Woods who deserve a shot and holdovers Dobnak, Smeltzer, Ober and Winder and mid season Paddack. Balazovich will hopefully rework his way back into the equation. in short the offseason primarily boils down to SS, 2nd C, and a RP, and possible SP. that’s it.

    Even before I got to the part of the article stating Urshala’s value is 8.55 million, I was thinking I probably wouldn’t go over 8 million in a contract for him. What are our 3B options for next year? There isn’t much written about that which is important to the authors points. I am fine with either a 1 year 8 million or 2 year 16 million deal for Urshala depending on our other alternatives. I doubt Urshala can do much better on the market and I am sure he likes it enough here to stay. Can Miranda field well enough there to take over third? He can definitely hit well enough there!

    Rocco is this generation's version of Gardenhire. too nice sometimes. instead of leaving pitchers in too long he takes them out too early, Something does need to click for this team and soon if they are going to compete this year. They are still in it.

    I am super serial......man bear pig...... but in truth these players are developed and have potential. Moran has pitched well up here and has a killer changeup. Stashak has solid numbers for a middle reliever and Alcala was coming on strong last season before being hurt this one. THese are the guys at the end of the "we developed them spectrum" but these are developed pitchers from our system.

    A nice contract extension for Duran could convince him to stay in the pen. I mean who wouldn't want a 6 year multi-million extension with a few option years added.

    Andy MacPhail (the GM before Terry Ryan and if the 2 World Series Champions). Once said the goal of a small market team like the Twins is to develop and promote 2-3 players per year to the team.. With the prospects we have, we can continue to do this. Also it’s not like we need a big crop to develop for next year as we will be competitive at least that long. In 2024 let’s revisit the rankings. That’s when it’s likely going to have some relevance again.

    He may not be happy about it but his next contract is likely his last shot at a big payday. I imagine contract with the highest number will sign him including us. I think this year is payback for all those years we complained about Gardenhire and then Molitor leaving pitchers in too long.

    We got good value form both. Archer has been treated the same way Ober was last year. How many starts does he have with over 80 pitches? I bet next season he would get more starts with 90-100 pitches. That will make him a 5 inning starter which is fine. Bundy is a 5 inning starter that is average, also good. I don’t see either option picked up though Bundy could be since he is close to the value of that option. But I could see the Twins bringing both back on new contracts with raises over this year and with incentives to get close to the option contract.

    Your calling him a scab is a negative. I believe he was acting in his family’s best interests and I for one am glad players crossed the line. That should have been inferred from my comment. I think that makes him more of a hero.

    With Bundy, if the Twins want to keep him they could offer a 2 year 16 million or say hey we are gonna decline his option, how bout a 1 year 8-9 million to be more inline with what he should be paid. I think he will stay next season. Also Bundy has been better than his overall line. Take out his two bad starts from late April/ early May and his ERA is probably closer to 4.00 I mean 2 innings and 9 earned runs in a start is gonna skew your numbers.

    Unions don’t always represent each players interest. Unions are an organization with their own interests. I can tell you how the teamsters threatened me with physical harm, when I worked for UPS in college for wanting to work and pay for school. They even negotiated a lower wage increase in exchange for control of the pension. UPS wanted the Pension to be a 50/50 thing to prevent corruption and mismanagement. Unions aren’t the heroes you think they are.

    I will take the counter point and say we have too many pitchers for 2023. The good news is you didn’t even factor in Archer and Bundy who both deserve to have their options picked up. So let’s pick up their options and get the winter meetings started. Who do we trade and for what….. a reliever and Catcher who can hit maybe. Would the Royals trade Salvador Perez for Archer, Smeltzer, and Ober? That would certainly help their 2023 rotation. Can we talk Maeda into becoming a top notch reliever? Now let’s see how competitive we can be!

    Let's take a quick look at what we have. Ryan is a potential rookie of the year candidate. We did acquire him in a trade and he didn't need to much development from us to be ready. Winder and Ober have been solid when available to pitch. both drafted and developed by team Falvine. Smeltzer seems to be a solid swingman for the rotation. We have a few in the pen we developed as well. Duran, Thielbar, Jax, Sands, Moran, Stashak, and Alcala. (to be fair Thielbar was a refind by Falvine after a 5 year Odessey for Thielbar as he wandered to minors looking for another opportunity to come back home to his Twins team). So we are developing pitchers just not healthy ones. but pretty effective ones though. another way to look at it is the above developed pitchers have thrown 431.67 innings with 177 earned runs and a 3.69 ERA. The acquired pitchers and pitchers no longer with the team have thrown 527.33 innings and given up 251 earned runs for an ERA of 4.28.
