  1. Duffey’s most recent outing was the first time he allowed an inherited runner to score all year. Mainly because he has the highest swing and miss rate in the pen and the highest swing percentage of pitches outside the zone. No one is saying he’s Mariano Rivera, but he is easily the best RH reliever the Twins have.
  2. I think part of the reason Baldelli has left his starters in too long of late is because he knows how bad his bullpen is. It turned out not to be the deciding run, but I don’t understand using May in the 9th - and said so last night. What are you saving Rogers, Duffey and Romo for? There’s no longer going to be a save.
  3. That just means he’s smart enough to manage the team he has. He has a couple more power bats now.
  4. I typically perform (expletive) duties without clothes. But that’s me.
  5. Dyson has said it started bothering him after the second series after the break. The “cherry pick” is based on Dyson’s own statements. From the pioneer press article: After being put on the 10-day injured list Sunday with what was diagnosed as right biceps tendinitis, Dyson spoke to reporters Monday and said he’s been dealing with the issue since the second series after the all-star break.
  6. The Rangers’ overall offensive numbers are still pretty good, but since the start of July they have a collective wRC of 83, ahead of only the Marlins, Rockies and White Sox. There’s a reason they were deadline sellers. I’m sure most of the veterans that remain are already thinking about their offseason vacation plans.
  7. Clevinger’s last six starts were two against the Royals and one each against the Twins, Jays, Tigers and Angels. Jays, Royals and Tigers are bottom 5 offenses in AL. Against LA, he gave up a double and HR to Trout and almost nothing else, which pretty much describes the Angel offense. The game against the Twins was his shortest start and the only one the Indians lost...
  8. I think the series hinges on Thursday and Saturday’s games. The Twins can’t expect to win a matchup of Smeltzer vs Bieber. Likewise, they SHOULD have little difficulty winning with Berrios going up against Civale. The other two are toss ups IMO.
  9. I guess I don’t see the parallel of a guy with barely any pro experience to one with 20 years plus as a pro.
  10. I’d say 1a is most likely. The Giants probably suspected something was wrong for the same reason you noted. All of a sudden he wasn’t getting swings and misses. But it was probably too SSS for them to pursue it further by asking Dyson about it.
  11. Radke and Erickson skipping AAA had more to do with the dearth of MLB pitchers the Twins had in 1990 and 1995 then the expectation that those two would be special. Kinda like now in a way.
  12. Lots of guys play CF. A lot of them even play it pretty well. They don’t land on the DL 2-3 times per year. Every year. There’s this one guy. He plays in LA. And another, I think just down I 35 a ways.
  13. Like I said, no evidence that he’s evolved. He’s been luckier over some of that span. I also agree that “reckless” isn’t the word to use when describing his collisions. Avoidable is.
  14. Marwin is considerably better vs LHP. And when factoring in that a lot of Schoop’s numbers have been produced in very low leverage at bats, I don’t think it’s worth it. Not if Rooker shows ability to hit MLB pitching in September.
  15. The Twins only guaranteed Kepler $35 mil over 5 years. Given the injuries and the substantially lower offensive production, I don’t see the Twins offering Buxton more. I would say quite a bit less is far more likely and far more likely to be flatly rejected.
  16. Assuming everyone else is healthy, I don’t think there is any chance Schoop makes the playoff roster. Which is another reason why I believe Rooker will get called up on Sep 1. 7 relievers SHOULD be plenty for postseason when there are never more than 3 days without a day off. So, 14 position players. That’s the “regular” 9, Marwin, Castro, Astudillo, Adrianza and then Cave, Schoop or someone else. IMO neither Cave or Schoop offer much value as a bench player. Rooker may not either, but I suspect the Twins will want to leave open that chance.
  17. IMO, this is exactly what is likely to happen and if people thought the relationship between the Buxton camp and the Twins FO was strained before, this will be a “you ain’t seen nothing yet” moment. It could get so bad that the Twins are all but forced to trade him. I said elsewhere that the Twins should have Lewis focus on CF because the chances of Buxton being in a Twins uniform beyond 2022 are almost nil.
