  1. I blew your finely nuanced sacastic wit Doc, my apologies. Can I blame it on covid fog? Toenail fungus? More likely than not just mental density. Thanks for your excellent reply.
  2. Pitch clock: Meh. Try it, fine. Wouldnt be needed if these guys learned how to pitch. Shifts/Ghost Runner: Good riddance. Big bases: Not buying it will reduce injuries. Hope it does. Believe it when I see it. Has anybody found a copy online of the 2022 CBA? Why is this not published? More closely guarded than state nuclear secrets, but thats not saying much anymore is it. Well, if someone comes across it please drop a link on TD. I'm dying to peruse a guaranteed best seller.....
  3. Was it only a year ago when we felt catcher was a position of strength? Now, not so much. But FO made this committment to Jeffers, I think they will give him every chance to secure the job in 2023. They'll bring in somebody as back-up and hope it doesnt implode.
  4. Heres BR Stats, am I missing something?: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stridsp01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=&utm_medium=referral https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/harrimi04.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=&utm_medium=referral
  5. Came across this on MLBTR, interesting read on the reigning World Series Champions ability to keep their pipeline up to date, while still producing ROY quality in their new players: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/09/the-braves-star-rookie-starter.html Spencer Strider is 23 YOA, drafted in 4th round 2020, (college player), played a grand total of 22 games in MiLB in 2021, had 2 games with Braves end of 2021. Michael Harris is 21 YOA, 3rd round draft 2019, (out of high school), played 197 games in MiLB in 2019, 2021, 2022 across multiple levels, now 90 games with Braves in 2022. I can imagine Twins fans would be thrilled to have one of these guys on the roster, let alone two. Compare that sequence to someone like Miranda, who logged nearly 400 MiLB games over 5 1/2 minor league seasons. Question then, is should Twins be much more aggressive in moving talent in the system when they are performing? I don't know, but I do sense the Twins need a different strategy in developing their MLB potential talent. Is this a way to better leverage that talent ?
  6. Yes indeed. But let's face it, this is all relative. From the Yankees perspective, seeing the Twins on the schedule is like early Christmas twice a year, tradition with a big T. Somebody's happy with this state of things, its just not us.
  7. Start with one please. Set the SP bar at Berrios-esque level, one guy who can be effective over time, pitch every fifth day, doesnt have to compete for the Cy Young, but can anchor the staff and on occasion rises to the stopper type guy we seem to not be able to find. Then develop a 2nd a 3rd who can manage mid-rotation, doesnt have to be lights out, just give the team a chance on most days. And manage to keep filling the pitching roster as the annual churn happens. Because it seems pretty clear the Twins are not going to pay market rates as guys near or achieve FA status. So this very very fine needle they have to thread (and that is not Falvey's fault, but it sure does restrict his abilities), is limiting......but as Nick points out, the best way to thread that needle is to have a development program in constant state of preparing the next cycle, and knowing which of those prospects to move in trade or release, and which to give a shot at MLB level. Falvey regime results to-date are a mixed bag, at best.
  8. And NYY announcing postponement tonight, doubleheader tomorrow. Cie la vie. Even NYY fans are unhappy and stressed, abt their 1st place, WS contending team. Check out the angst from Pinstripe Alley: https://www.pinstripealley.com/2022/9/4/23335322/yankees-angels-athletics-rays-josh-donaldson-isiah-kiner-falefa-gerrit-cole-domingo-german
  9. For those of us old enough to remember a Mn born and bred rookie making his MLB debut in Yankee stadium. Sending these positive vibes Louie Varlands way:
  10. Great story, good luck Mr Varland....first MLB win in Yankee Stadium! That will be a nice memory! Go get it......
  11. Am I the only person who did not know we had an afternoon game today? NYY had to travel to, at least they came home, but what kind of scheduling says lets have an afternoon game following a night game with travel? Very odd. Not that it would make any difference in the outcome the game. Stunned Twins got a couple of runs. NYY pitcher must have had one too many beers between innings prior to tossing that HR ball. Oh well, as the old saying goes, "it aint over till they beat us tomorrow."
  12. The difference between trading for Castillo or Mahle was contract term and prospects. Seattle moved their #1, 3, 5 and low level pitcher for 2 months of Castillo, to chase a WC birth. Ballsy move, and paying off so far....so does Seattle have better medical risk assessment process, or just a bigger appetite for risk/reward? Maybe Seattle believed they were one piece away from being legit WS potential. Twins couldnt say thst, even privately. If Castillo goes down in the next 3 weeks does it would change nothing about how they assessed that risk at the time of trade. Ditto for Twins, what matters is their risk assessment at time of trade. If they missed something egregious on meds, then they need to fix their process. I've felt for years Twins have failed to properly identify and manage injuries. It needs to get fixed. But its too early to say if Mahle is a continuation of that or just bad luck. Taking Mahle over Castillo was a hedged bet. The scope of Twins' acceptable risk was security/length, hedged by reasonable expectation of performance and lesser prospect capital. It wasnt a bad bet, assuming there was no glaring red flag they chose to overlook. They rolled the dice, just like Seattle, and appear to have lost the short term. The longer term TBD.
  13. Excellent material Ind Twin! It's a compelling argument that what we've been seeing is an adjustment to roster churn. At the same time, its apparent MLB as a whole has moved to shorten starts, Twins are not an outlier.
  14. Kershaw would have been perfect back in April if he could have finished. 3 near nono's in one season seems unusual. You and me both. With this staff, its believe it when I see it with injury recoveries. Predicting here Mr Mahle is done for 2022 and we'll see about surgical needs and 2023 later. If this doesnt prod MLB to reorganize into 2 divisions per league sooner than later, along wth balanced scheduling..would reduce the possibility of this happening in the future. And prep for inevitable expansion in 5 yrs.
  15. Got it! They both take a dump in public with lots of people watching and dont care in the least!
  16. Wonder what a teams record is day after a nono? Anybody have that stat handy?
  17. Cant say I can find it in me to use superlatives for anyone on Twins roster tonight
  18. Rays win, 2-1, O's winning big.....East may be way more interesting than ALC
