  1. Maybe Kep sees 2023 as a contract year and steps it up. But I had that hope for Sano this year. If some other team wants to make a fair trade theyd have to consider- nobody on this roster is untouchable. I just dont see it happening, but you never know. Agree with others Kep's value may be in 4th OF spot, backing up Buck, if only for defense. Assuming they have someone better for RF fulltime. I really had hoped he would have a great career, so this decline was disappointing.
  2. "...it is quite possible Twins fans have seen the end of Bundy’s time in a Twins uniform. " There is always hope! But then, who replaces Bundy? And hope flickers, like the gasping wisp of the candle wick's reality as the last bit of oxygen in the jar is consumed while the lid is secured.....that is what it is like to consider the Minnesota Twins 2023 pitching staff.
  3. Buck finished slightly ahead of his post-2017 seasonal average for games played. From that perspective, the health plan can claim a slight improvement, comparatively speaking. But it seems unlikely FO was looking for an incremental improvement. I love Buck. He is Twins' best player. But if the best player peaks at playing 55% of games in the period 2018-2022, the team needs to find another best player. Let Buck become the complementary piece his history says he is, and end the annual roller coaster of expecting 150 All Star caliber games from the man. The inevitable injuries are too disruptive, so more realistic planning around him seems appropriate.
  4. Hmmm, not knowing what the injury is, and surgical treatment is, it seems that "getting his knee healthier" is a relative concept. Maybe better said, getting his knee functional, and hoping he doesnt do more damage when he resumes full speed. This is really not good news. Not unexpected, but not good. Hope it goes well for him regardless. But Twins need a Plan B beyond a Buck-FT-in-CF next year.
  5. A few areas the powers-that-be may wish to improve next season: Better pitching, Better hitting, Better fielding Better baserunning Better coaching, Better managing, Better trading, Better FA signings, Better drafting, Better development, All of which =a
  6. "As a team, the Saints were just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base." Call these guys up, they'll fit right in.....
  7. "It’s hard to imagine that he (CC) won’t stay here when he fits in so well, on the field and off." I hope not. He was MIA until the season was a roaring dumpster fire. The Sept stat padding cant hide the fact he has not carried the team at any point this season. I would rather commit his salary elsewhere, and see who among Lewis or Lee can lay claim to SS.
  8. It will add an interesting twist to the draft. Thanks for sim link, I tried it, on 12th try Twins popped up 3rd, otherwise were in the teens. Whether its 3 or 16, there will be talent available, can they choose wisely and develop said talent is the question. It sure looks like they hit on Lee. Please dont trade him for RP next year.......
  9. Good summary Nick. I too hope they will bring up some of the prospects/suspects, it's glorified spring training the rest of the way, but lets see who wants to play in 23.
  10. I would add the decision to run the offense through Buck. I love Buck, but building offensive identity around him is just bizarre. Next year's base assumption should be that Buck is good for 80 relatively healthy games. If he gets more its gravy. But dont build out from a faulty assumption. And if they want Buck hitting 25-30 HR's, whats he doing in leadoff? 28 HR's turned into 51 RBI's, what waste to the max. They need to re-envision the offensive identity entirely. As others have pointed out this offense is grossly inefficient, and needs different structure, different strategy, and probably an infusion of different skills.
  11. Amen to that. See Berrios, Jose. So in answer to the question in the article's title: He came to Minnesota.
  12. Good point that can be said of the entire outfield. Larnach's role is hard to separate from the entirety of the outfield mess. It should not be assumed that Larnach, Buxton, Kepler, or Kiriloff are going to provide any certain # of games. Until they prove they can stay healthy for six consecutive months without a disabling injury, the OF will remain in flux. Larnach should be given a chance, but not guaranteed a starting role, or, for that matter, a spot on the 26. Ditto for Kiriloff, whether they see him at 1B or OF, or both. And Buck is what he is at this point-they need a platoon plan for CF. Would that be a trade or FA? Celestino is still developing...future Aaron Hicks, or Willie Norwood? Kepler is lost, they will bring him in because they have to, but he cant be counted on for productivity or health. Twins are in a very tough spot with their OF for 2023. It's a logjam of uncertainty.
  13. Dobber, we hardly knew 'ye...... Alas, much like athlete's foot, or Cave, Jake, there remains a lingering suspicion Dobbie will rise again in a TC uni.....
  14. Looks like they made that decision today, Dobbie is off the 40-man, imagine he will be back in Twins minor league system but you never know, cant imagine Twins would be disappointed if someone else took the contract.
  15. A master class tonight in how to take an useless exhibition game, create some brief "nono" excitement within a seeming blowout, and somehow, someway, figure out how to blow the nono and allow one of the worst teams in mlb to bring the tying run to the ondeck circle after starting the 9th with a 6-0 lead. I'm with you on this one Chief, its a sad if not predictable state of affairs with our Twins right now.
  16. Yes, it only makes sense, because who would rather see, Ted Bundy or the shiny new toy who beat up the Yankees?
  17. Interesting stuff on pitch counts, and what Nolan Ryan thought about it, love the quote, "You dont need a pitch count to let you know when its time to take the pitcher out, the hitters will let you know.." https://www.lonestarball.com/2009/4/26/855016/the-ongoing-mystery-of-nolan-ryan
