  1. In order to make room for Sano, the Twins optioned Gilberto Celestino to Triple-A.
  2. To build on this point, how to value the loss of trading a MLB player in the season(s) immediately following the trade, while awaiting the progression of the new prospects. I'm saying it badly, but an example is the Pressly trade July 2108. How much value is lost in the intervening years 2019/20, before Celestino/Alcala begin making ML contributions. What value would retaining Pressly have had on Twins regular season record and then chances for playoff wins in 2019/20? Not sure how it could be measured, or that it could be measured, but it should be accounted for in the overall evaluation of such a trade. It's hard to say this clearly, but just thinking about how a MLB org must try to evaluate/anticipate the impact of selling ML talent in the seasons between when the guy traded continues to produce, and the org awaits initial ROI in those prospects still in minors.
  3. Sounds like a good kid, hope he can work hard, have some luck, and see him in TF in a few years.
  4. Not really surprised by any of the rankings here. I guess we can say defense is not the Twins' strength.
  5. This from LA Times, lending more intrigue to this year's deadline. What would it take for Twins to competitively bid an Obtani trade? https://www.latimes.com/sports/angels/story/2022-07-18/shohei-ohtani-future-with-the-angels
  6. Honestly, as I read through this excellent compilation, it was a tad disheartening. Injuries, threat of injury, underperformance, and promotion of several others last 2 yrs have really thinned out the prospect pool. Hoping Canterino can stay healthy for a good long stretch, if he needs to go to BP so be it. Seems like the one closest to being ML ready.
  7. Out-of-the-box idea: Imagine NYY and Wash are engaging seriously on Soto. What if NYY need some add-on pieces to fill out a package? Twins get involved via Sano. So Wash takes a 2 month tryout on Sano, and determines at end of year if they take his 23 option. Sano might be a power batter Wash would have sone interest in including in a rebuild. If they decide to pass, no harm no foul. Twins and/or NYY contribute part of remainder of salary, say 1M, to fill-out the package, and in return Twins net a BP guy, somebody like Erasmo Ramirez....not a difference maker but reliable depth for last 2 months.
  8. General comment just to say thanks to Ted and TD staff for these reports and interviews. Great material and nuggets....we have a knuckleballer!.....when players are more often than not de-personalized as "arms" or "bats" this type of content is a great way to offer balance and background on these guys. So thanks for doing it, and keep up the good work.
  9. Like it or not, this is reality. He has no trade value. He will be in the lineup to the bitter end. It's basically a contract year for him, in the next two months we all get to see how dedicated he is to extending his big league career, or not.
  10. Oh and eighteen pushes back against the notion that the playoff outcomes are random chance events. That said, getting there is the first step of many, so yeah, agree with others here, Twins should not/will not be passive. Question is how much future projection are they willing to sacrifice for immediate gain in 2022? And how do potential sellers view the Twins' prospect potential? It would be great to see other teams boards rating Twins Milb ratings. How do their ratings match up with their projected future needs/wants? If the stars align in some unforeseen way maybe we make the move for Castillo or Montas. The liklier outcome would seem to be lesser BP depth, but it wouldnt be a shock to see them make a serious run at one of the big boy SP's, and drop existing rotation guys into BP. There's lots of different ways this can play out, and that is what makes this deadline so interesting. I hope the trades will start sooner than later. Love this image, never heard it B4, thanks Dasterdly Dave, I have a new toy to throw around now!
  11. Catcher to ump: "But if he'd thrown a strike, this is where it would have landed." Ump to catcher: "Hmmm, good point. Steeeeerriiiiiikkkkewun"
  12. That's a fair question. Guess we will find out in 2 weeks if any sellers project Twins pitching prospects in the way we do. Speculating here, but the most asked abt player from Twins, for Castillo or Montas, would be AK, after that maybe CES, Wallner, Steer. Just cant see Cin or Oak demanding any of our pit hing pipeline other than as 3rd or 4th pieces. They will want AK and move on when told no.
  13. Great question. Others have stated here, both/and. Everyone hopes to be on the winning side of things, but only 50% are on any given night. And everyone expects to enjoy the game, the plays, or the player(s) of interest, the park, or the ambience, whatever "it" is that makes a ballgame enjoyable. Like Ashbury, I find it as much at a small town Legion field as at Target Field.
  14. Realistic analysis Nick, and looking forward to TD trade deadline content. Agree with others here, we have vets underperforming in batting order, one more batter is not going to change that. Their investing a lot for CC and Buck to produce, they shouldnt need more otside help. But this is a conundrum on the pitching side. Given the weakness of ALC, the FO will have to do something to try to improve both SP and BP. At the same time, doing it without giving up milb guys they project onto MLB next year,....Tall order. Do you justify moving some combo of Wallner/Steer /SWR/ Martin/Cantorino/Festa/Miller/CES.....it will be painful to get Castillo or Montas, so the circle comes back to all-in type trade, middling-maybe type, or out completely in 2022? With their history, Twins probably try the middle way, look to score on an undervalued SP and BP guy, and let the chips fall. All this has me thinking abt the current dividional alignments in relation to the expanded playoff field, The question is live in large part because of the weak competition in ALC....feeling a different thread topic coming here. But it feels like the impending trades are as much a matter of curcumstance as planning.
  15. Batter up: Pitcher or batter? I dont care, just want somebody good enough to impact ML roster in 2 yrs
  16. Now that is bold! Bordering on reckless Chief, a disposition of which you are well noted for on TD?
  17. Well, this is interesting.... Expect the unexpected at #8?
  18. Totally agree. Do either of the 1st two picks shave yet?
  19. "I heard he might start every inning with an intentional walk on Saturday,” said an MLB source. “It’s unorthodox to be sure, but he says that it sets up the double play every time. That’s just facts. He’s a Hall of Famer.”eard he might start every inning with an intentional walk on Saturday,” said an MLB source. “It’s unorthodox to be sure, but he says that it sets up the double play every time. That’s just facts. He’s a Hall of Famer.” Brilliant, my sides are hurting. Have to admit though this is the kind of forward-thinking, out-of-the-box strategy that moves from quirky, to fad, to mainstream so quickly.........
  20. Twins gained some guys who might help. But I sure wish we could be the kind of org that decides to extend the guys who prove they can play and produce, i. e. Pressly, rather than kicking that can down the road with prospects who are 3 yrs away. Pressly has anchored a WS and pennant winning BP since the trade. We're still projecting prospects. Jury is still out, but that trade is not close to even in results. Reality is some guys are going to get paid market rate. Time for Twins to reap the benefits of those hard spent developmental $$$ and pay up when its time to solidify positions like back end BP talent. One wonders what our record might be with Mr Pressly snd Rogers tag teaming this season.
