  1. What about Mitch Garver as a RH DH / LF? I know his 2017 in the pros didn't go as well as one would have hoped, but he does have hot tools. It would be interesting to see how he does after, say 400 ABs in a combination of C, DH (1B?) He could also play some LF and spell Kepler (LF would switch to RF) against LHP. I tried to find his MiLB splits against L/R, but couldn't. I do like internal options since I'd rather FA money be spent on pitching. Besides, I still think the plan is to go for it in '19 rather than '18.
  2. Patience, patience, patience. Why not start him in AA to work on his changeup and "stretch his arm"? He can be moved up to AAA in June.
  3. Unofficial poll: how many of you watch the games on DVR? I agree that 3 to 4 hours in a ball park is as close to heaven on earth as we might experience. But, 4 hours on TV is a bit long. I "tape" the game (And by using the word "tape" I admit my age) and start watching around an hour of hour and a half later. Just curious.
  4. Thank you for the article. If I had to quibble, I'd suggest that your choices were not breakout stars but were "logical next step" players. I am looking forward to revisiting this exact topic on, say, August 1st. I know I will be surprised.
  5. And, the Dodgers made significant use of the new 10 day "disabled" list to essentially expand the size of their pitching staff. I would not be surprised if the Twins pick up on this and we see a lot of relievers developing "twinges" after pitching, say, in 3 of 4 or 4 of 5 games and being placed on the 10-day DL.
  6. Would it be possible to provide transcripts? I usually don’t have an hour, but could read a transcript in a fraction of the time. Maybe just feed it through a voice recognition program?
  7. Yes, his performance at SS in ‘18 is important, but SS may be the position of greatest depth in the Twins’ MiL organization. Perhaps if he reverts to a bat-first OK glove player, he could move to 2B or 3B by ‘19.
  8. Thank you for the article. I liked everything but the title as your article points to a more crowded mound as opposed to clearing room!
  9. Does ANYONE have ANY information on when Darvish might make his decision? I believe that things will move quickly for some of the names mentioned above once Darvish decides.
  10. Would the weight issue be as much of an issue if he were a full time DH?
  11. Question: what are Graterol's prospective secondary offerings?
  12. I'll be following, from afar, the DSL Twins Nunez, Encarnacion and Santana. There are also two catchers: De la Cruz and Pimentel. Yes, all the caveats-- they're 18 y.o., etc.
  13. I know this is sacrilegious, but Mauer and his left handed bat would work well in Yankee pinstripes. Recall how many homers he hit into the Metrodome's Glad Bag? That would play with Yankee stadium's what 150' right field foul line. It would also work since the Yankees could offer Joe a contract that wouldn't be a 75% reduction. And, with all that HR power in their lineup, Joe's OBP might play. But aside from them, I can't see any team wanting zero power at 1B.
  14. I've gathered from this site that the new hitting coach's philosophy might be consistent with this. Tweak, don't change.
  15. Thanks for mentioning pitching, Dman. Who else might start aside from Enlow and Leach? By the way, I’m guessing Leach will start in a short season league, probably Elizabethton.
  16. I remain cautiously optimistic. If things DON’T work out, plan B might be platooning with Garver (who would play left field). Plan C might be Granite or Wade - maybe a true lead off hitter? Then Kirilloff and or Rooker in 2020.
  17. No! I was asking IF there were 5. And I am skeptical there are. I was merely guessing that the FO (at the behest of ownership) wants them to find out first.
  18. Of course it would. I’m guessing that perhaps the FO wants to see what they have currently first. Are there 5 starters among the current ML, AAA and AA squads? If the team is competitive and needs a starter, I could see a mid- season trade.I guess I’m just suspicious of the Pohlads and whether there is money to sign a front line starter for 2018.
  19. I still think the inscrutable front office’s Plan A is to plan to be competitive in 2019 and not 2018.
  20. Except for the Lake Wobegon Whippets where "all the pitchers are above average."
