  1. Ah, I remember the good old days, long, long ago, like, say 2017, when the Twins played more games a week than both the T-Wolves and the Wild.
  2. Three thoughts: 1. If he gets, say, 180 hits a year for four more years, and at least one well-deserved Golden Glove, those would help. 2. Unfortunately, post-season success (as opposed to mere appearances) has a weight as it increases national exposure. Perhaps his next contract will be with a quant based (that is, one that values OBP) perpetual playoff team. 3. How does he compare with Gary "Worst Perm Ever" Carter? My best guess? Maybe a third ballot.
  3. "Brian Navarreto advanced them both on a sac bunt," Could he be brought up to the majors and act as a personal hitting instructor for Morrison?
  4. Just an ill-conceived mention based on too small of a sample size, but aren't there an awful lot of walks being given up in the minors? I believe the Twins have always preached "throwing strikes". I don't want to start a debate about "pitching to contact", but shouldn't throwing strikes be emphasized in the minors?
  5. "Ironically, a wild Siberian tiger will deliver the game ball to Justin Verlander tonight" As someone who went through the same educational system as Alanis Morristte (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada), and having suffered slings and arrows for her incomprehension of "irony", might I suggest "Strategically"?
  6. I am massively overstating this, but the list of today's starters (thank you for this) sort of kind of reflects the future of the Twins' starting pitching prospects.
  7. Ironically / co-incidentally, the photo associated with this thread is of perhaps the most controversial "retractable roof" stadium ever built-- The Big O or Montreal's Olympic Stadium. It was designed for the '76 Olympics as was supposed to be the world's first retractable roof stadium. For the games, the roof would be off (as required by the IOC), and as the then future home of the Expos, the roof would be raised or lowered (kind of like a parachute) depending on the weather. As it turned out, it was many times over budget and never really worked. It is now in the permanently "down" position.
  8. This is indeed a valuable crop of prospects. Any information on the background and philosophies of the hitting and pitching coaches?
  9. And anything about the hitters who shredded the DSL in '17: Nunez, Encarnacion, Santana, (all 18 yo last year) De La Cruz (19)?
  10. Great article! I'm wondering if there is an opposite article on who may have been a little disappointing.
  11. I'm the jerk who posted a topic about whether we should be worried about the Twins' spring training batting which was 28th overall. I was told to not worry. Well, I'm worrying.
  12. Record: 85-77. Miss playoffs Two gold gloves (Mauer and some guy who plays CF). 12 different starting pitchers (but only 9 before September 1st). Morrison on a 60 day DL.
  13. "Starters not named Ervin went from a 5.91 ERA in 2016 to 5.19 in 2017." Question 1: What was the ERA from starters named neither Ervin nor Berrios? Question 2: Is a 4.50 SP really that rare these days?
  14. Per Forbes, the Marlins are still worth over a billion.
  15. How long would Granite have to be on the farm for the Twins to own another year of him? That is, postpone vesting by a year. Keep LaMarre until then?
  16. FWIW Vegas has the Angels winning 85 games with the Twins at 83.5. Both have equal odds of winning the pennant at 12:1. These teams have the fifth and sixth highest predicted win totals behind Yankees, Astros, BoSox (all over 90 wins) and Cleveland (94.5 wins).
  17. I know this is a family-friendly site, so let me paraphrase my reaction to the news as "F-bomb x 3" followed by a few "Gosh darned it." By the way, I looked up the drug on Wikipedia and found: "stanozolol has been used in US horse racing". 'Nuf said?
  18. Thank you for the article. Nit-picking, but I think the use of the word "demotion" is a little misleading as it connotes that the players were in the majors and were sent down and / or their performance was wanting. As previous posters have mentioned, these moves were fully anticipated. Apologies for nit-picking.
  19. For the first time in numerous years the free agent acquisitions for the major League rotation allows for flexibility in the minor leagues. Its nice that at least ten pitching prospects can spend some time in the high (AA and AAA) minors to either a) stretch out and / or work on pitches. On the one hand, there will be a need for starters in 2019. For example, Lynn's contract is only one year. On the other hand, what? there is a problem that the Twins have too many MLB starting pitchers? The original article was great. Maybe I'm lazy (ok, I am certainly lazy), but maybe an update would include ages.
