  1. And as a footnote to a truly bizarre E-Twins box score that shows eight runs, but only 3 RBIs, they also benefited from EIGHT wild pitches.
  2. Just how "bad" would Garver be in LF? Rosario in RF? Just thinking about an "experiment" when facing LH Starters.
  3. One interesting factoid about Detroit: No matter what anyone tells you, there is no valet parking in Detroit.
  4. I'm watching again! And yes, if there is a Jay Bruce deal to be made, let's make it. Its kind of ironic that perhaps the easiest piece to fill, a DH, seems to be the hardest piece to fill for the Twins. And I think the Twins' farm system has enough mediocre relievers that trading one wouldn't be the end of the world.
  5. Two comments: 1. I am giddy that the Timberwolves have become a "destination" for free agents. But I don't know if that has transferred to the Twins. It would be "nice" if the Twins could simply pick and choose FAs, but would they come? 2. I don't see a lot of power in the minors. Are there ANY prospects with a power rating over 50?
  6. Earlier in the week, TV showed Dozier's BA with the bases loaded and it was somewhere around .125
  7. Last names ending in a vowel? I agree, too many darned Italians in our minor leagues.
  8. You don't agree we should have received Bryce Harper and Geo Gonzales back for Kinzler???
  9. The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor at about the 70 minute mark of the movie "Animal House." Its a famous John Belushi quote.
  10. I asked the same question-- apparently its 2017 money and (also apparently) there are a couple of 15 year olds (yes, 15 year olds) who will soon turn 16 that the Twins are interested in.
  11. Can we all remember that the beginning-of-the-season O/U wins total was 74? That they will easily meet that expectation while strengthening their minor league system through the draft, trades and international signings, means that the Twins' season must be considered a modest success. Goals for the remainder of the season should include: 1. using the "found" half-million wisely, 2. Trying out as many minor-leaguers as possible, and, most importantly, 3. Finishing their one-year "top to bottom review" of the organization.
  12. If: 1. The Twins ae going nowhere this year, and 2. Kinzler will re-sign with the Twins after the season, then What ever we get will be a bonus. But, yes, it would be nice to get at least a B prospect. Complete speculation, but per MLB's top prospects page, 4 of the Nationals' top 25 are catchers.
  13. So, if Dozier is traded and Polanco doesn't improve, what does the 2018 opening day infield look like? And, apologies for sounding like a broken record, but if Slegers gets a shot, why not Hurlbut? His Quality Start % isn't bad.
  14. And so the book closes on two moves: Hicks for a fringy reliever and the first overall pick in the Rule 5 draft for, well, nothing, as the pick was first traded (for nothing) and the player eventually selected was returned. And posters want this front office to make MORE deals?
  15. Actually, these days SS's ARE expected to hit. And, its only OUR CF's who aren't expected to hit.
  16. Thank you for the thoughtful article. IMHO, the article might be better titled "September Call-ups" or "Spring Training 2018".
  17. I concur: why the hate on Hurlbut? I agree he's not the next Cy Young, but couldn't he be given a chance?
  18. And while the Twins play teams like the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers, the Indians play-- are you ready for this?-- Jays, A's, Giants, Angels and White Sox. So, by the trading deadline, it is not inconceivable that the Twins would fall six more games back. I do enjoy the discussion, but, like other posters, I'm afraid it will prove moot by the deadline. My best guess? Minor sellers-- more likely in late August with playoff bound teams looking for minor pieces. These pieces would probably have little trouble clearing waivers.
  19. Per the Strib, there are still 3 unsigned Top 20 rounds Twins' draft picks. Any money left for them? Will they be signed?
  20. Melville' night is even more impressive when one looks at the Pawsox's lineup which started with four major leaguers.
