  1. Well, the Twins will need a fourth and fifth starter, a fourth outfielder / PH / PR with stats better than Grossman’s and a fourth or fifth bullpen arm in 2020. It is impossibly optimistic to believe these five would fill those five roles. But, hey, if these five could fill 2 or 3, I, for one, would be ecstatic. Any thoughts on Cave’s regression from his last year with the Yankees?
  2. By my estimation, the five AL playoff teams are pretty much decided. The sixth team is the A’s who are 8 games out. In the NL, by contrast, there are maybe 10 teams still in it. So, look for the ten AL out of contention teams selling to the 10 in contention NL teams. Any proposed trades?
  3. Keep Gibson. Otherwise, could someone name the 2019 opening day rotation? And as I’ve asked before, aside from the Yankees maybe wanting Gibson, does anyone have any suggestions on potential counter parties? Also, by sheer numbers, there will be a lot more selling teams than buyers
  4. I’m sure he’d love a chance to win his first playoff series. He can always return next year,
  5. You wrote: Davis displayed impressive power but it came with a hefty number of strikeouts and not many walks to offset them. This season, he’s looked like a whole new hitter. After posting a career 30.2 K% and 6.8 BB%, Davis has improved those rates to 25.2 K% and 11.0 BB% in 2018. Whatever soup they're feeding him, can they give some to Sano? Excellent write-up and thank you.
  6. I don't understand baseball at all. The article began with: "Akil Baddoo has done a nice job as Cedar Rapids’ leadoff man throughout the year. While his batting average his not high, his on-base percentage has been on base between 35% and 40% through most of the season" I agree that this is good-- he has a good eye. But are opposing pitchers disproportionately throwing balls?
  7. Not a negative against the poster-- thank you. But who would have guessed in April that this would be a relevant headline?
  8. Given the #5-#9 hitters in the Twins' major league lineup, the Mendoza line would be an improvement
  9. Dear Entire Staff- Why the heck would we bring you up? Confidence is a big piece of progression. We could bring you up, you could start 3 times, but each time, you would give a quality start, say 6 2/3 innings, 2 earned runs, 7 hits, 2 walks. But you would be 0-3 because our team has a clean-up hitter who hits .100, and the bottom five (not the bottom one or two, but the bottom five) of our line up can't hit their weight.
  10. Yes, hindsight is indeed 20/20. Which (feasible) manager do you recommend? Perhaps a Spanish speaking bench coach?
  11. It's a fair point. Could any analytics predict injury to starting catcherinjury / headaches to 1BDozier having an awful year (well, maybe, but this awful?)SS having an 80 game suspensionSaid SS punching whateverSano having an awful year (well, maybe, but this awful?-- and yes, I cut and pasted from Dozier)Kepler (cut and paste... alas)Bux (see Kepler / Dozier)The ace's recovery taking so much longer than expected?Zero, and I mean zero, depth at the AAA level.I am not Molitor's biggest fan. But, let's face it, he's managing a team that has faced the seven plagues.
  12. As I've posted before: trading Mauer does not preclude resigning him. If he really is a "team player", I think he's love the chance to play for the Yankees for two months, play some postseason games and then come back to the Twins, who would then have a B+ prospect. Win-$%@*-win
  13. I think baseball is definitely the sport of the future: a five hour game with a solo home run and a walk. Is this excitement or what? The millennials will definitely put down their devices for this. If anyone knows anything about TV ratings this year, let me know, but if one thought last year's free agent market was soft...
  14. Two comments; First, trading Joe Mauer does no preclude resigning him in the off-season. Some teams would value a high OBP left handed bat. Second, and this is consistent with the what-if-we're-selling-what-no-one-wants-to-buy crowd, what might be plausible returns (and from whom) for some of the names oft-mentioned above? Who are potential buyers?
  15. Isn't another Minnesota-based phenom "distracted" by a musical career? Andrew Wiggins?
  16. Getting back to the original article. Thank you for a poignant eulogy. Our collective off-season prayers contained many ifs-- if Dozier, if Polanco, if Buxton, when Santana, if Sano.... I don't want to discuss why the Twins now play without their acetheir catchertheir first basemantheir shortstoptheir third basemantheir center fielder,Instead, again looking back to the offseason prognostications, the pitching staff has done enough such that they have created 6 more wins (based on my preseason analysis using the Pythagorean theorem). What I and I think no one would have predicted is Petit, LaMarre, Cave, Motter. It is no longer the time to rearrange the deck chairs. I am open minded to see what the FO can do in this situation. Requiem aeturum.
  17. I spent six (long) years in Rochester. If one has been out drinking and wants to mitigate a hangover by eating greasy food, one heads to Nick Tahou’s and consumes a garbage plate a/k/a a “Garbo”. It has baked beans, home fries and a slice “white hot” sausage. The place doesn’t even open until 11 pm or something.
  18. And, at the risk of restoking the anger of the "who cares, they're only a bunch of 16 year olds" crowd, the DSL Twins are off to an amazing start and are really hitting the cover off the ball with a team BA north of .300 I believe a few of last year's DSL Twins are now state-side.
  19. When I used to entertain out-of-towners by bringing them to Nye's Polonaise, I start by buying a long roll of pull tabs. This roster reminds me of this.
  20. We were spoiled last year with (just about) every MiLB team well over .500 and in the playoffs.
