  1. It was a bit tongue in cheek, mostly because I know how stodgy baseball and baseball fans can be about anything new particularly when it comes to technology, but none of those questions are viable reasons to deny the idea. All of them could be easily ironed out, just like in football.
  2. Yeah but unless they're filming it with audio for a live action Bull Durham show the nuance is lost on the fans. Scrap the mound visits by everyone, let players wear ear pieces while they are on the field. That'll speed the game up.
  3. Et tu Jim Kaat? https://www.twinkietown.com/2018/1/18/16904626/minnesota-twins-front-office-hire-jim-kaat-as-special-assistant-mlb Man, when they put the band back together there are no generational boundaries. I hope they get him back in the booth even if it's just for an inning or two.
  4. Nobody here was screaming to see Haley, the selection of him was nearly as head-scratching as Kinley was this year. The only shiny thing related to Haley people wanted to see was his plan back to Boston.
  5. I've heard that one, but I don't know. I didn't hear those concerns about Bryan Shaw when he was signed and if anyone has been overworked it's been him and he got a bigger and longer deal (though to be fair, I don't think the Rockies are a very astute organization). Also seems like everyone has been trying to get their hands on Brad Hand who's seen more work than Reed. Mike Minor threw more innings than Reed last year and Minor was coming off of basically two missed seasons due to arm and shoulder injuries. Unless there are sketchy medicals, which the Twins also surely would have viewed, I'd bet the concern lies more with the fact that the Mets are viewed quite unfavorably in terms of their pitcher usage the last half decade or so.
  6. I don't know that Hildenberger improves much, he was pretty dang good last year. I think Busenitz has a shot to do more though; I think he's got the stuff to miss way more bats than he did last year. I'll also jump onto the Gibson bandwagon, his new approach at the end of last year really seemed to pay off. I think his strikeout numbers are going to rise quite a bit making him a much more complete pitcher. Also Brent Rooker of course.
  7. I have always been and still am a May-as-a-starter guy. I'm still counting on a free agent to fill out the rotation and am also hopeful for a trade. Though it may be bottom heavy, the rotation could easily get crowded as well with one or two good moves. I guess I thought May would likely end up being a swing man type this year pending his recovery and the state of the pitching staff. Even swing men might have a hard time finding a gig on this team this year though.
  8. I hadn't done the math, not much room for the young guys. Everyone else seems to like vets so I guess I'm OK rolling with them for now but most of the velocity will be in Rochester or DFA'd from the looks of it. And it looks like there are going to be some painful casualties. I'm going to be more than disappointed if this team lost a guy like May. Hopefully all this depth just means the vets have little to no leash.
  9. Seems like a trade of multiple 40-man players might be good idea. I'd still like to try to grab Danny Duffy to be the rotation's lefty.
  10. Lewis and Javier are 18-19 and in the lower minor leagues. What are the odds the both pan out? 15-20% max?
  11. Vince Coleman was a base-stealer in an era when that was a much bigger deal, he wasn't a stand out defensive stud. Also, Byron Buxton has already tied Vince Coleman's career HR total. Those two aren't the same kind of player. Coleman is probably a good comp for Billy Hamilton.
  12. TJ surgery seems to allow for a fairly quick recovery time for hitters comparatively to the pitchers. It didn't appear to impact Sano in anything other than his call-up date.
  13. Well the debate about his Top Ten List is due almost exclusively to the fact that he went quite a long way off course from all the national and local prospect takes.
  14. I don't know, I might take Omaha, Warren Buffet would have already closed this deal.
  15. I agree they should target more than one, but I'd rather have one good pitcher than two middling pitchers if it comes down to money. Two middling pitchers aren't what this club needs. If they can get the top free agent, they should do it. And if they have to go 5-6 years, so be it, I only care about years 1-4. They can get creative with him in the decline years. Stick him in the pen, trade him and eat nearly all of the salary. Heck, they can DFA him for all I care.
  16. Right, but the fans and the players can ask the same question to the owners.
  17. I think if Darvish and his agent were only in it to pump up the other teams they would have had a highly publicized meeting with the Twins to leverage the other clubs. As counter-intuitive as it might sound, to me it looks like it's been the opposite, meetings with other teams may be used to leverage the Twins. Honestly my optimism is still quite modest but I'll admit it may present itself as more grand as I'm out of practice using it.
  18. I think the Twins are going to get lucky and snag him on a reasonable deal while most of the big clubs shed payroll and bid their time for the 2019 class. The Twins know they can't participate with the crazy money that 2019 will throw around and at that time plenty of teams are going to look back just 12 months and think about how free agents in 2018 went for peanuts despite what the perception was at the time. But I bet the Twins hook him with an opt out after year two or three, so they better not get too self satisfied, there's still plenty of work to do if they want to win a title in that window, Darvish alone doesn't make this club one of the favorites in the AL.
  19. Totally disagree; in the case of sexual harassment it is simple. Intimating or expressing the wish for sexual encounters, jokes or comments toward an unwanted party is sexual harassment, if you don't know if it's unwanted, assume it is. Awkward pick up guy can say, your dress looks nice. Awkward pick up guy cannot say your dress would look nice crumbled up in a ball on my bedroom floor. Sorry, we used to think it was funny, but it's a new world and changing the very day, men better get used to it.
  20. Seems like awkward schmuck wouldn't have to worry about any blurred lines if his pick-up lines were not of a sexual nature.
  21. Tillman looks like the kind of guy who could end up having a nice 2nd career out of the pen. But he's going to get another shot at starting this year, and the Twins already have a half dozen guys who should be fighting for the 5th spot. So maybe next year if he understands going in that he's destined for the pen?
  22. I like these small scope past reflections. Good stuff David!
  23. I mean, hasn't everyone already clicked on all of them?! Well done Tom, great addition to the site!
