  1. Vargas has a long ways to go to prove he could be a full time DH. I doubt he's on this team next season. Park's projection is aggressive. Hope you're right. If Grossman is hitting at a .676 OPS clip, then he shouldn't get 200 ABs and should be released. His defense was/is horrendous. If he doesn't match his offensive performance last year he has negative value on this team.
  2. A near .800 OPS is too aggressive for my taste. He's still young and learning. Maybe in the next year or 2 he reaches that level. This year I'm predicting 450 PA, .700-.725 OPS with 15 HR.
  3. Agree with Dave and Mike that Buxton will be a 4 WAR player this season. A lot of it will come from his elite defense... It's going to be fun tracking his progression. I still think he's going to have some slumps which will decrease the numbers overall. .725-.750 OPS, 18 HR, 14 Web Gems on Baseball Tonight.
  4. This just in: 32 year old who was one of the best hitters we've ever seen doesn't live up to enormous FA contract. Color me shocked.
  5. No doubt. No regrets from the moment he was traded to the Angels from me. I'll bet the under that Meyer has 50.5 career MLB starts.
  6. Doesn't surprise me at all he was sent down because he is inconsistent. We saw that for 4 years before finally cutting bait.
  7. Couldn't agree more about the starting pitching mess... Many of us were clamoring for help in the rotation and bullpen. Instead they went with the same route that TR took. Signing mediocre placeholders and crossing fingers that one of these days the RP prospects make their way to Minnesota.
  8. Good point. My perspective was that Levine is focused on the present short term. Falvey is focused on the big picture long term outlook. Could be wrong.
  9. Unfortunately we won't know who they would choose if Adrianza didn't get hurt. You know my thoughts on D Santana.... All things being equal and Adrianza was healthy, if they still chose Santana I would be angry.
  10. I mentioned this in a thread yesterday and firmly believe this... We wouldn't be talking about D Santana making the 25 man roster if Adrianza didn't get hurt. I think this glitch will be fixed as soon as he's off the DL. The Gimenez move is baffling. Not sure why they don't trust JRM in a backup role. Carrying 13 pitchers IMO is because there is minimal trust that Santiago, Hughes, or Mejia can make it 5 innings in a regular season start.
  11. Agreed. I'll be interested to see if they do make a waiver claim or 2 in April while they have top priority.
  12. Concur. This was my exact thoughts reading the article. Not a lot of trust that Hughes or Santiago will pitch 6+ innings.
  13. He should take D Santanas spot for sure. Adrianza had a strong spring FWIW and can handle the infield way better than D San ever will.
  14. One thing about D Santana then I'm done talking about him. I doubt we would be talking about him making the 25 man roster if Adrianza didn't get hurt. My hope is that the glitch will be fixed soon. Maybe after 10 days when Adrianza comes off the DL.
  15. When he does pitch in a tight spot, that will be uncharted territory for him... 34 of his 65 appearances last year he was brought in when the team was down or up by 3 or more runs. In merely 10 appearances did he come in when the game was tied.
  16. I get where you're coming from spy... Frankly I'm frustrated that this is all they have to work with.
  17. Too bad 26 year old Melotakis and 26 year old Trevor Hildenberger are simply too young to pitch in the lowest leverage innings like Tonkin....
  18. Must have missed that success in between the moon shots from his off-speed pitches. If others will feel better looking at Tonkin for another 2 months before deciding to pull the plug, that's fine. I jumped off the bandwagon about 15 miles ago.
  19. Yep. I think there's already a few of them down in the minors right now. Tonkin minor league career K/9 - 9.3 Melotakis - 8.6 Nick Burdi - 12.6 Jake Reed - 8.78 Jay - 8.7 All of them can be described as decent relievers that throw hard. To answer your second paragraph.... No. Wouldn't wring my hands over Tonkin having a good season elsewhere. I know you've been a Tonkin apologist for a long time. He's a typical middle relief pitcher.
  20. Yep. In fact, the bullpen is one of the easiest groups to patch together on a baseball team. There really hasn't been any excuse for the last 3 years.
  21. There were several bounce back candidates waiting and available in FA. They just decided to go with the same route as usual.... Mediocre placeholders hoping that the 3rd year is the charm waiting for these awesome RP prospects in the minors.
  22. How lucky is Rogers?! He gets not 1, not 2, but 3(!!) veteran pitchers giving him constant guidance and attention. Are the veterans going to set up 8 hour shifts to hold his hand throughout the day?
