  1. If it didn't, I would be disappointed. Not that I want him gone, because I don't, but that they didn't consider how well they had set up a trade situation if they wanted to pursue it. I have pretty much zero doubt he'll be well worth what he gets in the next four years.
  2. Yeah, I'd really wait on Arcia. Can't play defense, streaky offense. Maybe he's our future DH? Maybe.
  3. I mentioned trade due to the MI prospects we have coming up. You know, kind of how we traded Span when we had a young Revere and Hicks waiting...
  4. we'll see. I hope you're right. let's hope that by 1 May he hasn't spend any time out in CF.
  5. Ryan didn't concur in public on that. Molitor said for sure, then Ryan said he wasn't sure, then Molitor backtracked. I'm just saying, it's not definitive.
  6. Molitor may have made it clear Santana will be a shortstop to start the year, but Ryan makes the active roster and if the 25 man roster makes Escobar shortstop and Santana CF our best option, we could very well see that right out the gate if not soon after.
  7. Speaking of Substance versus Style. ESPN just released it's top 10 list of CFs for 2015. Span was nowhere to be found. Here's a guy who was 7th in CF WAR and 17th in OF War, period. But they have guys like Wil Myers on there who hasn't even played CF, and Billy Hamilton. Yes, he may not play the start of 2015, maybe, but he's going to be playing. Maybe they think his injury will hurt him too much, but he's not even mentioned in the article. Nothing about, 'hey there's this guy, Span ,who has been good for a good amount of time, he's not on the list because of this injury and we think it'll affect him all season.
  8. If Escobar can continue to perform how he did last season, I agree. He can play two or three times a week and fill in at 3 spots.
  9. When I read the title of this I thought it was a Span versus Revere discussion :-)
  10. The guy who is so good he has seen three major league teams, has been traded twice (one time for Sam Fuld by a guy who has a good track record for knowing talent) and yet still hasn't reach arbitration yet. Has an AL FIP around 4.30 and likely had a quality ERA due to a very good pitcher's park and quality defense behind him because he isn't striking out a good chunk of guys.
  11. thanks to you and Brock for the cap space info. I literally had no idea about this. Never heard this and I love to learn, so that's great stuff. And I appreciate you putting out that reasoning so eloquently. I agree May is more polished, I'm not sure Meyer is going to get any more out of being in the minors.
  12. I'm trying to learn something here, that's why all the questions on this subject. If a team can trade a guy to a team and, in return, get international cap space that's new info to me and good to know.
  13. Not saying you're wrong about Meyer and May, but I'm interested in knowing why you feel this way other than the fact the Twins sent Meyer down already and they haven't done so with May (along with May having a few games in the majors with wildly inconsistent results). Also, cap space? Please elaborate.
  14. By rising fastball do you mean a high fastball. Physics tells us that a pitches don't rise. Sam Fuld's dad did a study on this, by the way :-)
  15. ZiPS, the best projector for 2014, projects the 2015 Yankees at 82-80.
  16. It's also easier to accept the pitch to contact strategy when you have good defenders behind you.
  17. Speaking of tall pitchers and how long it takes them to hone their craft, how tall was Jon Rauch? Maybe we should also consider comparing Meyer to him? Or maybe Chris Young? How about Eric Hillman? Maybe there's a reason we've seen so very few (like one) or so) really successful really tall starting pitchers.
  18. As a huge Twins fan, I also have a NL team and that team, along with other teams and players I like, play in the Cactus league. It's less expensive for me (in travel and lodging)to go to Arizona. Arizona is closer for me. My brother, who I'm going with like we've always wanted to, has no interest in going all the way to Florida to watch a team he has no interest in. There are reasons.
  19. I wish I was slightly intoxicated :-) Instead I'm on call. I rarely drink nowadays, but it's been an exceptionally rough week.
  20. Yes, and you have to wonder how great this prospect really is when he's 25 and can't beat out guys like Pelfrey and Milone (especially Milone since FA contract isn't a factor). We supposedly won that Span trade when it happened.
