  1. 1. Reports are they made a bid they knew was less than lesser players got. 20% less than Correa ended up getting. If they actually made that offer, they knew it wasn't realistic. I'm actually skeptical they even made such an offer, but even if we grant they did, they weren't actually trying. It's similar to offering Torii Hunter 3/$45. He got 5/$90. Ancient history, but were they actually trying to sign Hunter? 2nd, On the one hand you believe the Twins would go 10 years, on the other argue 13 years is not realistic. There's little to no difference in the 2. Both are going to end badly. But $28M/yr 9 years from now, 11 years, 13 years, isn't going to cripple the Twins. And they could pay off those last three years by setting aside $5-6M per year for the 1st 10 years. One less JA Happ each year, if you will.
  2. 10 years or 13 years is irrelevant. What difference does it make? The Giants actually got him for a lower AAV than what the Twins supposedly offered. Take $5M per year for the first 10 years, set it aside in investments, and you've paid the last 3 years. The problem isn't 10 years or 13 years. The problem is the Twins never really wanted to sign him at any price, and leaked am "offer" just to placate some fans.
  3. Lets's be honest. The Twins were out on Correa when they traded for Farmer. Before they traded for Farmer.
  4. Vasquez was an overpay, made necessary by the front office's putting themselves in the position of needing him really, really badly. They HAD to basically give Vasquez way more than he was worth.
  5. The talent in the organization has slowly but consistently eroded since 2019. They've been on the wrong side of way too many decisions, in every area. Trades, free agency, drafts. Coaching staffs.
  6. Correa is just one data point. Falvine have been on the wrong side of way too many transactions. Too many times over their tenure, particularly the last 3 or 4 years, the Twins end up on the short end of the deal. Trades, drafts, free agents done or not done. It's been a slow but persistent lowering of talent since the 2019 team, which they get only a portion of credit for. The list of downgrades and/or mistakes is too long for me. To the point where they put themselves in a position of NEEDING to give Christian Vasquez 3/$30--a bigger overpay than Correa. Needing pitching EVERY offseason because they're constantly on 1 or 2 year deals for questionable talent. Trading for obvious injury risks. Never a middle of the order since 2019. The current minor league system is a wasteland. Look at the dreck we sent to the AFL. Etc etc etc. Time for new blood. They're a failure.
  7. Kyle Farmer was your opening day SS the day that trade was announced. Thinking otherwise was pretty ... unrealistic, to put it kindly.
  8. I came here just to see the "Well we tried REAL hard" article, with similar comments, and TD didn't disappoint. Anybody still sticking with their "we only got Farmer as a backup" stance?
  9. I wouldn't mind giving JD Martinez 500 PAs at DH.
  10. 99% positive it's Kodai. I think BBRef got this one wrong. "ou" isn't a normal Japanese anglicization, as far as I know.
  11. Since you're arguing in this thread against spending like the Padres to avoid the inevitable crash, arguing the Padres haven't been successful, and want "development front and center," yes. How else would I take that?
  12. You said earlier you want "development." What does THAT have to do with comparing the Twins and Padres payroll?? Nothing. Zip. Zilch. The two things are unrelated, but can certainly co-exist. Like with...your favorites, the Dodgers. The Twins can spend more, AND they can do a better job developing.
  13. I was hoping I wouldn't ever see that ******* windup again. Just another reason to hate the White Sox.
  14. Randball's Stu breaks out of a sustained slump bigtime! BIGTIME!!! "Zachary was in a timeout for not sharing at recess and would address the media at an undetermined future date when he started making better choices." Hahahahaha
  15. Damn. Such a loss. Rest in Peace, and many thanks for all the joy I got through the years listening to your voice, and in the years to come. You will be missed.
  16. Zero people? You can't be serious. "RBI are meaningless" is orthodox stathead-ology.
  17. Funny how RBI aren't important until nobody has any. Abreu would be a fantastic addition to this lineup. Fantastic. The guy drives in runs.
  18. Is Andrew McCutchen an under the radar add? Or am I crazy? Yes.
  19. Nico Goodrum was signed as a FA, not as a trade target. He also appeared in 15 games and had 45 PAs for the Astros. There's no need to trade for Kyle Farmer. Like Nico Goodrum, or Jermaine Palacios, every team already has a couple three Kyle Farmers in their system and there's another couple dozen available as cheap free agent minor league depth. Dollars to donuts Farmer is a starter on the 2023 Twins. Barf.
  20. What's the difference? None of these players, including 32 year old Farmer, are going to help win a pennant. They're there because you need 26 players on the roster. What good comes from Kyle Farmer? How does that get the Twins to a WS?
  21. Why are we trading for a "backup"? I get less and less impressed by this front office weekly.
