  1. This was the first time I've heard about Buxton's migraines. From reports I've found, he has migraines roughly once a month. I've also looked up "How to get rid of migraines". Basically, it read like 'put a list of possible remedies on a dart board and throw'. Stress and physical activity can aggravate it. Things are starting to make sense. I wish him well.
  2. Falvey just cleared out JR Murphy. I'm expecting more, like Park and Vargas and some of the MiLB pitchers that are getting hurt repeatedly. No abject loyalty in the new FO.
  3. WHO IS SAFE (probably)? Personally, for me, if I'm serious about building via trades, there is no "safe" list. A single, talented player can garner more talented players. Falvey and Levine completed another trade, this one clearing Murphy off the team and picking up a nice AA prospect. I would expect more of those types of moves. Saw a couple articles about Twins drawing interest in Santana, Garcia, Kintzler, Dozier. Excellent, although I'd kinda like to see Garcia pitch just one time. Somewhere in those trades, I'd hope there is a closer replacement. I don't have a lot of faith in Ryan Pressly as a closer. If someone overwhelms me on Rogers, yeah, I'd trade him. Heck, face the facts, I'd trade practically anyone. Mom's not with us anymore, so she's safe...
  4. I view the trade as a first step in culling the herd. Falvey and Levine have reviewed both major and minor leagues and are beginning to ship out non-performers and, in this case, acquire a prospect. Good first move. Falvey calls it "fluid situation". IMHO: tap should be pretty open.
  5. This is NOT a rambling, stream of consciousness. You used punctuation.... ;-) I think the acquisition of Garcia was simply an FO attempt to stop the bleeding in one rotation spot. I think Garcia has an excellent chance to do just that, this year and next, if he so chooses. A little surprised they didn't go after Neshek early for stability. Intrigued by Hildenberger and Busenitz. Also intrigued by Aaron Slegers, Stephen Gonsalves. But are they closer to a Jon Rauch / Chris Young-clone than a Randy Johnson-type? I'd promote Mitch Garver before I'd ever bring up Kennys Vargas again. Been there, done that. Always gauge the market!!
  6. Would love to see the Twins getting Gray. So it probably won't happen... Would also like to see Twins acquiring some good veteran relief pitchers. And I won't mention Neshek again. Seriously.
  7. My takes on the acquisition of Jaime Garcia: 2) The price was right: Minnesota acquired Garcia without giving up much This is what real, professional front offices do. Terry Ryan was a heck of a talent evaluator. But otherwise... 3) Ponying up: The Twins are covering all the money. In baseball terms, a small amount of money. In Pohlad-terms, yeah, it's still money, but they approved of this move. This and the move to hire a firm to find new people to run the Twins organization are really big moves. The day's of calling the Pohland's cheap are over! Maybe. SSS and all.... 4) Message delivered: Falvey and Levine are giving a vote of confidence. Another big deal. We haven't seen this in a long time. And how about a vote of confidence for Molitor? I know there are many who criticize Molitor on a regular basis. I call it a bunch of nitpicking. This team is growing under Molitor. Or are we calling Eddie Rosario's season a fluke? Gibson has been farmed out again, this time in favor of Colon. In his last game, Gibson pitched a good game. Then started whining again. Shezzz..... Moving forward, is it Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Garcia and Colon? Surely we can go better than Colon, right?
  8. Ynoa seems like a long ways away. Recker has bounced around a lot. Good trade, really hope this settles the backend of the rotation.
  9. I am. His best spot is DH. As a first-baseman, he's a statue. And let's be frank about Vargas: after an initial splash, he's not much of an advantage on the field or at the plate in an average of 52 games and 192 AB's over the past 4 years. I think it's time to move on from Vargas. Mitch Garver can easily take his place.
  10. Veteran team vs. young, developing team. What were the odds....... The reports I've read re: Phillies trading Neshek, is that Neshek could be had for a minor leaguer. Now, there are more teams involved. If the Twins really wanted him, it's probably too late. re: Eduardo Escobar: I wouldn't trade him. He really has value for the Twins right now.
  11. Late last night, LEN 3 posted an article that said the Twins and Braves are still talking. Burdi is no longer in the discussion.
  12. Is the arm still attached? Yes. Rub some dirt on it and get back out there! Gods, I miss the good-old days.....
  13. meh. Braves and Twins are/were just kicking the tires. News gets leaked. Other teams are asking about Garcia, too. Wash, rinse, repeat. No deal.
  14. The upside potential is something very real for this team as a whole. I would speculate that this alone would attract some pitching. Not the high-buck-type, but certainly some in the middle range may be interested. Going into, what?, their 3rd season together, this team could really flourish next season. With some minor tweaks. Move Polanco back to 2nd. I really like Dozier, but let's face 2 things: 1. Dozier is probably the Twins most tradeable asset 2. Polanco is much better a 2nd. Looks a lot more comfortable. 3. Putting a more defensive-minded on the field everyday would attract more pitchers Build the bullpen. Currently [and realistically] the Twins current bullpen consists of 3 people: Duffey, Rogers and Kintzler. That won't cut it another year. Get more that a couple hitters to stop swinging at balls really low/outside and REALLY outside of their reach. Get every Twins position player to attend a Fernando Tatis clinic. Worked pretty well for Sano.
  15. Possibly. I would think that would include the Braves picking up a portion of the remaining salary of Garcia. Would be nice to settle the 4-5 positions in the rotation. EDIT: Well, cancel that idea: 8:24pm: Minnesota is “very likely” to take over all of Garcia’s remaining salary (about $4.7MM), per 1500 ESPN’s Darren Wolfson (via Twitter).
  16. Bah humbug! You missed Option #4: Don't screw up. :-)
  17. Rant-On As I've posted before: I've lived through the days with the Twins when guys like Willie Banks were considered to be hot prospects. Then I learned the true meaning of 'hot prospects': hot in relation to the Twins, not the entire MLB. Willie had his moments and pitched until he was 33. In the end, pretty underwhelming. I say this because I think the new FO's questioning how good the Twins MiLB pitchers really are. It's the only reason I can think of when the Twins are rotating guy like Tepesch, Turley, Wilk, Santiago and Colon in and out of the rotation. With a whole season to evaluate the system from top to bottom, I would expect Falvey and Levine to make significant changes to Twins MiLB rosters. Well, wish, is probably a lot closer. Rant-Off
  18. While his offense is better, you can still get Rosario to swing at a low breaking ball out of the zone on a 2 strike count. His defense this year, after some pretty good years, has been disturbing. But I still hope that he's getting it all together.
  19. Ugh. Just when I thought I'd flushed the names of Capps, Jepsen, Rauch and Fuentes out of my mind...... So, who do the Twins have to trade that will get them some Madson and Doolittle types? Seems those are exactly the types of guys they need to bridge the gap to Rogers and Duffey to Kintzler. Could a pair similar to Madson and Doolittle be what we can expect in a Dozier trade?
  20. Nice to see a Twins win against the Yankees. I'm wondering.... Should the Twins start contemplating rotating Polanco around the diamond. His hitting is way down. I have to wonder if playing exclusively at SS has something to do with it. He just doesn't look that good there. Maybe start rotating some with Dozier? Dozier at DH for a game or 2 to keep him fresh? Would really like to see Escobar's playing time stay consistent while he's hitting. Is Mejia the real deal? Or can he be? I can't find any stats on this, but he seems to get pulled around the 5th inning every game. I was hoping he'd be more of an innings eater. What's wrong with Duffey? Has Rosario figured it all out?
  21. In this season, we need to ignore the record and keep on the development path. I'd like to see 2 things from management: I wish the Twins would quit playing around with guys like Belisle, Bosher, Breslow, etc, and start a steady stream callup of MiLB relievers. Be active in the trade discussions.
