  1. Interesting update for you @gunnarthor I guessed that Magnus wouldn’t defend his title in 2023; you said he wants to be considered #1 of all time: We were both right. He wants to keep increasing his rating and be the best ever, but he is bored with the world chess championship and won’t defend it once 2023 unless it’s against Alireza Firouzja. I was wrong to suggest if Magnus was getting bored with chess. He’s only bored with his competition. Imagine being that much better than 2nd best in a game where all the information is right there on the board available to both players, and there are no secrets.
  2. I’m so glad we can talk about this. I was in the studio audience that day. Although I cannot tell you who won, I am not under the same confidentiality, and can share some stuff. So... Shall we have a look at the categories? i think you’ll be pleasantly surprised: , . . . and last..
  3. Here’s another good channel @gunnarthor! https://m.youtube.com/user/AGADMATOR I have been checking out the commentaries on this channel at night after the games have been played. Good teasers but no spoilers as he walks through the games. I’ve been following this guy for a while. Hearing occasional comments from him and putting pieces together, and it sounds to me like Magnus might be getting a little bored and might not defend in 2023? Which would be natural, but a shame, because there is an amazing young Iranian-French player named Alireza who is developing, very strong and dynamic.
  4. Yikes! Glad you finally made it. I’m tagging the admin so that they see your comment, for their awareness @Brock Beauchamp
  5. Dan Gladden on the radio broadcasts predicted all summer long that Carlos Correa might sign with Detroit. The Tigers have already signed Eduardo Rodriguez this offseason.
  6. Good question. I’ve seen this question raised in this forum before, and there were at least a couple interesting names that posters came up with, but I did not have that thread bookmarked unfortunately. Actually, Paul Molitor might be one example, a guy who was healthier later in his career.
  7. Same with player opt-outs. If a player is exceeding his contract by so much that he wants to exercise an opt out that he has, how is that a bad thing? But, we don't offer player options in Twins Territory.
  8. I see your point, but I have to disagree. Think back to the early 2000s Twins teams. Those teams were full of alpha's alphas: Torii, Dougie, AJ, Everyday Eddie. For sure. Those are guys who wanted to be in the big spot in the biggest moment. But then think about the late 2000s Twins teams. That quality was missing in those teams, in my opinion. I cannot say that half the players in the league have that "Eddie" quality. I cannot say that even a smaller fraction has that quality. Call it heart, instinct, winner, whatever you want. How many players try to tag to second base on a fly ball to left field --- in the World Series. And get away with it. That's what I'm trying to describe.
  9. The Braves executives did not view Eddie Rosario as a “low end trade commodity” any more than they viewed Freddie Freeman as an “expiring asset” that other teams might bid on. So that’s one difference. The players knew who Eddie Rosario was when he arrived, that he wants to be the guy at the plate in the biggest moments and is capable of carrying the whole team on his back when he’s in the zone. And therein ends my bitter screed for the week.
  10. Those other guys had career All-Star type seasons this season. The only one comparable from your list is Odorizzi’s 2019 season. (Edit; Odorizzi is pitching for Houston in Game 1 of the World Series as I type this.) Anything is possible and hope springs eternal in March but it’s a long shot. For 2022, I like the idea of trading and developing.
  11. what on gods green earth makes you think this front office can identify a potential bargain like one of those guys
  12. Atlanta trails L.A. in Game 7 by four runs. Bottom of seventh, one out, nobody on, Atlanta needs a rally. Suddenly, a streaker runs onto field, delaying the game. The game is halted for... wait, the streaker is Eddie Rosario! The athletic Rosario, dressed only in socks and cleats, runs into the outfield to the stadium sound of Oooooh, neither a boo nor a cheer. Rosario eludes security easily, running here and there in the outfield to do calisthenics, fake dramatic slow-motion home run swings, and short sprints away from the stadium personnel when necessary. Contrary to policy, the network broadcasts the whole thing live on television. Finally, after 14 minutes, Rosario sprints to the fence. He climbs over and disappears through the service tunnel. After some headshaking and regrouping, the game resumes. Atlanta rallies. Rosario’s replacement contributes with an RBI double and run scored. Atlanta comes back to win Game 7 to go on to the 2021 World Series. Rosario is named MVP of the NLCS in absentia.
  13. I think people lose sight of what “facts” are. The Twins lost 89 games and finished last in the Central is a fact (well, two facts). Stuff like, The Twins spent a lot of money to sign Donaldson, is a reasonable judgment, most people would agree with, but not really a fact in the true sense.
  14. I don’t think it’s an AL Central problem. If the Twins has pulled their weight and won 90+ games, the Central would have looked like several other divisions this season. So that’s why I say it’s a Twins problem, not a Central problem. As far as the possibility of the White Sox being swept and having this be the fourth consecutive season where the AL Central winner has been swept out of the first round? First, other teams are allowed to be good. But secondly, yeah, that’s a bad look. The Twins have played a big part in that streak. Three different AL Central teams represented the American League in the World Series for 4 out of 5 years recently, from 2012 to 2016. So that tells me that a good team or mid-market team from the Central division can compete just fine.
  15. I was raised as a Duck Duck Grey Duck child. Be very careful with our kind!
  16. Is that supposed to be some non-phonetic spelling of The Duff? I think this is the more compelling question. Kind of like how you see the word boogieman spelled out as “bogeyman” — in an attempt to terrorize golfers, apparently.
  17. I am trying to imagine what Falvey or Levine would think, hearing that they are given an A+ grade after a year like this.
  18. I’m as guilty as anyone, but we should hold off on calling these “lottery tickets” this upcoming offseason. Other teams are cashing in nicely on them, and with too much regularity, and that’s not how the lottery operates.
  19. Agree with Ober. I might call Arraez underappreciated, but not underrated, if there’s a distinction there. I would also call Jax underappreciated in that he is taking the ball every fifth day, but he’s not underrated per se. Donaldson’s power numbers look way down to me. I’m guessing Thielbar is having a career year. So the other names I was thinking of were Jeffers, who is an iron man, and Gordon. If I squint I could have seen Gordon as a bench guy, 4th outfielder and pinch running for guys like Donaldson late in the game (9th maybe 8th inning). If the Twins were competitive this year that’s how I would have used him. Maybe next year. Gordon probably cannot sticking in the infield from what I’ve read, so it looks like outfield, and he probably makes enough contact to stick in the show somewhere for a while?
  20. Thanks. Always good to hear from someone who watched live and could give it a close eye. I wish the news was better on this night. Maybe just an off night; sounds like his bat will definitely play somewhere.
  21. Also note to radio stat guys: the 28 batters the Twins faced last night doesn't tie a record, since Radke faced 27 batters in that 1996 game? Not sure how you would count that.
  22. Great outing. Made the game thread fun again. I was reminded of a start Brad Radke made early in his career. Just like Joe Ryan last night, Radke also had a perfect game into the 7th inning, for 19 hitters, in Radke's second season, which was 1996. In Yankee Stadium no less. Also that turned out to be the dynasty Yankees team Radke was pitching against. Not saying 2021 Cleveland will turn out to be the 1996-2001 Yankees, but if Joe Ryan turns out to be Brad Radke ... ?
  23. It looks like Gordon entered the game as third baseman (a whole ‘nuther conversation) and then came to bat in Buxton’s spot. It looks like Cave entered as center fielder at the same time Gordon entered. If Gordon had actually pinch hit for Buxton and then went out to play third base, the notation would read: PH-3B /post edited a thousand times for clarity (I hope)
  24. Sure, things can change fast, but I tried to get you to pump the brakes back in spring training when you called the 2021 rotation the deepest in memory. A good pitching staff in 2022, in my opinion, will have more to do with bringing in new pitching and bullpen coaches and bringing new people into the front office from the outside to help with pitching the day after the season ends. This organization has been bleeding pitching talent since Falvey and Levine showed up and while I’m not calling for their firing, I do think the first thing to do is to get someone else in to stop the bleeding. Or maybe there are people already inside who aren’t being heard who need to be. Even better. Not trying to be Debbie Downer for anyone. Not trying to have a negative mindset. Just trying to present another set of expectations for people to consider for 2022. We can half-expect that 1 or 2 of the young pitchers will emerge and surprise us in 2022 and still have fun following the team and talk about moving the pieces around for 2023. Thanks!
