  1. Not to pile on but it's quite common for young hitters to struggle adjusting to a mlb breaking ball. It took Torii about three years.
  2. There are many ways to construct a lineup. I think the biggest factor is each guy has to contribute something (power speed obp). When you have multiple guys in the lineup that don't do anything well and strikeout a lot your offense is going to sputter.
  3. Hold on here, I thought it was well documented the Twins brainwashed all their hitters to go the other way?
  4. For years (long before sabrmetrics) I always believed that you could lump fielders into three categories: 1) elite difference makers which comprise maybe 15%. 2) guys that are difference makers because that are that bad with the glove (again about 15%). And 3) everybody else who are so similar that over the course of a season they will have roughly the same impact with the glove. Interesting that the Twins had nobody in the elite category and maybe two in the bad category (Hunter and Susuki and they were close to the middle group)
  5. This. If this were a blind taste test everyone would be in love with Milone. Everyone is in love with what they think May, Gibson, Duffey WILL do as opposed to what Milone has actually done.
  6. Plus one hundred. I think this applies to other threads as well. I can fully endorse criticism of not improving the bullpen where many options were available but catchers are a completely different story.
  7. Instead of wasting your talents assessing my posting ability find out how many "damn good" catchers there are out there and how many would be available in any kind of reasonable trade. That would cut to the heart of the matter quickly.
  8. I understand your angle on this and it applies strongly in most positions. My only caveat is that damn good catchers are rare and not available for trade. You pretty much have to draft those.
  9. My biggest concern is Park. He's going to dictate what happens to several players and I think there is a good chance he's going to struggle. But with the contract he's gonna play. I bet that one of Arcia / Vargas would match his production at DH. If true we would be far better off without him. And yes I really hope I'm wrong.
  10. Well he's only 24 and with limited opportunities has been competent with the bat and glove. His ceiling is probably competent but as we've seen competent catchers are worth a lot.
  11. Correct and while they should be interested in someone on a one year deal they need to avoid anything longer.
  12. Yep, my question, which I should have clarified, is whether enough clubs will get burned to see it change in the future.
  13. No matter what position he plays he is going to be in good physical condition. I think people need to worry about body fat percentage not weight. Muscle is heavier than fat and he has plenty of muscle.
  14. The interesting thing about some of these mega contracts isn't so much the money but the opt outs. It really embeds risk to the club . It will be interesting to see if this trend continues.
  15. If Hicks figures it out lefthanded his upside is higher. I think there a very real possibility that never happens which means he becomes the right side of a platoon which severely diminishes his value.
  16. He's still relatively young. Jason Bartlett didn't put it all together until he was 27 or 28. Development of players is not a cookie cutter approach.
  17. The tools he has make it worthwhile to be patient. I don't recall if he has an option left but if yes let him play ss everyday in Rochester
  18. Well a good pitching staff will contain 12-14 effective pitchers, maybe more. If healthy, I'm pretty sure he can be in our top 14. Don't get me wrong I hate the deal but I just don't see the upside in taking the worst possible loss without at least taking a chance that he pitches better now that he's healthy.
  19. I guess I don't understand the "I'll give you my first born child if you would only take Ricky off our hands" compulsion. His value is at rock bottom - why bother? He's healthy now - put him in the pen and he might just surprise you. Which is a far greater outcome than to sacrifice assets just so we can be done with him.
  20. I actually think there is a reasonable chance that Nolasco is competent in 2016. He's finally healthy and has plenty to prove. I don't necessarily want him in the rotation but he could contribute out of the pen. I wouldn't do the proposed trade because I wouldn't ever get obligated for big money to a player in their mid 30s
  21. Darren O'DAY just got 4 years and $31 million. I highly doubt we are getting a good reliever via free agency. And maybe guys like Fien are worth more than we think.
  22. Probably the biggest factor in Valencia 's success is becoming a platoon player.
  23. Given his age and multiple clubs and hitting coaches, the most plausible explanation is that Benson just can't hit. It happens.
  24. Geez don't worry about Michael - Nobody is claiming him. If you think otherwise you don't understand the process. Protect your pitchers.
